Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems as if fan reaction towards Dragon Age: Inquisition has been disappointment. What are your thoughts?

DA2 had such superior writing and pacing and combat to Inquisition, it's a joke.

Yeah, it didn't have the style of Origins, but I enjoyed the aesthetics of Kirkwall and the DA2 Deep Roads. If you preferred the style of characters and environments in Origins, you are right to be butthurt. The music in Origins is better, that's for sure.

Anyways. Bioware, don't be mistaken. There are mature fans of DA2 who truly believe differently than the rest of these.

Not vast, but the end result is a far more complete and polished result, IMO; DAO > DAI > DA2.

And He is mine, too.

I'm sorry you wouldn't know character if it bit you in the face. DA2 had such superior writing and pacing and combat to Inquisition, it's a joke.

And while I hold Aveline as one of the best Romance arcs in the series, the characters of DAI are more memorable; ironically Cole most of all.

I enjoyed every game; have played DA2 well over six complete times, but still prefer the others.

... then maybe it's not the best idea to hang around the DAI forums trashing one of someone else's favourite games ...?

I mean, I love DA2 as well. But for me it's DAI > DAO = DA2. I have a hard time separating the first two games in my affections, but post-Trespasser I love Inquisition better than both of them.

I liked Cole in Asunder, but in the game, I thought he didn't fit Thedas at all. Especially Origins-type Thedas. And his dialogue and design and direction in Inquisition was....atrocious?

Ouch!

Mass Effect changed my life.

When I step back, I see the individual pieces are superior in other games, but when I assemble them together, I realize the IP and worlds in Bioware are more involving than the others. Honestly if they just polished a few technical departments it would be too blindingly beautiful

I'd pefer Besthuda over Bioware now... Which is a shame. I mean; I kind of understand DA2 fans now (after being harresed by one; whom claimed I didn't like anything about DA2 which was false becuase I love Carver in the game; and Mage Hawke, an Male Hawke.. And Snarky Hawke... But I just was sort of disappointed by a lot of things they could've done better)...

Isn't that what DA2 haters are doing?

Anyway, I've never really understood hating a game. The worst I've ever felt about a game is boredom; there's rarely anything that would ever propel me to hang around the game's boards posting at length about how much I hate it. In the past I'd just write a single review and move on, like I did with DA2 which - while I enjoyed it - disappointed me in some respects.

In fairness to DAI, the design is about the player managing pacing rather than the game managing pacing. Saying that DAI has bad pacing is like saying that Skyrim has weak companions.

Of course, both statements are also completely true.

That is pretty well put, I think. It definitely struck a resonance with me.

But this are my thoughts:

With DA:O I got the feeling they knew what they were doing and wanted to do and were committed to it.

With DA2 I got the feeling the franchise had been kidnapped by a newcomer, fresh from marketing school, who thought he knew everything about videogames.

With DA:I I got the feeling it was desperate to succeed. It's good more because they threw everything but the kitchen sink at it, rather than having found its identity.

And repeating this, because of the thread: No, I'm not disappointed with DA:I, rather the opposite.

I loved it aswell, i think the reason people trash it is that bioware really cut some corners to push it out fast. But the characters are better and the combat is more fun and dynamic, the rest is pretty much a mess though.

I agree. I mean the only game to date that I absolutely hate is Soul Calibur V and a simple solution to that was to never play it again. Boredom is common symptom I get with lots of games unless there are things like additional content and mods to keep it fresh.

I know some people love the game, but the general attitude on here has been very mixed. If I'm being honest I've see a lot more who are disappointed than people who are pleased. It seems as if Bioware was aiming very high with this game, but fell completely short to a lot of you. So many people on here have been voicing their displeasure, and those who bother to give their own personal score of the game have been giving 6 and 7s. Seemingly low for a game of this budget and scale.

For those reasons, despite my personal feelings on the game, I feel like I have to acknowledge that it's critical and commercial success aside, Dragon Age: Inquisition seems to have been another disappointment to the fans. Some thought that this would end up being Bioware's big comeback. The game that would be measured up against the quality of games like DA:O or ME2, and most would agree it's as good as those titles. But as of right now it doesn't seem so.

So many questions have flooded my mind from this, I have to get them out there:

1. 6-12 months down the line will DA:I be viewed in a more positive or negative light? Will those who were harsh on the game gain more of an appreciation for it, or vise versa?

2. For those who don't like the game or were really disappointed, what's your attitude towards Bioware and the Dragon Age series at this point in time? Are you no longer a fan? Are you giving up on it? Do you have low expectations for it's future?

3. Are a lot of fans really disappointed with the game, or is this the voices of a few being really loud? When the dust settles, will there be a lot more positivity towards this game a few weeks from now?

1. Seeing as more support for DA2 came out around the time DAI came out, I'd say that yeah, eventually people are just going to remember the good stuff and none of the faults that made so many people complain. Some of the sourness comes from interactions on forums, speaking to others, etc. So there is that.

2. I've kind of lost a lot of enthusiasm for future Dragon Age games. I remember getting DA2 and just playing that for weeks, and being really hyped for DAI. But after DAI turned out to be stale bread, I've since cooled my jets and will probably sit on my hands for a while before buying the next Dragon Age game. Most likely a sale sort of buy.

This isn't to say that I've stopped being interested in the series, but it's lost some of it's charm for me.

3. Positive-ness will probably start kicking when the next Dragon Age comes out. I mean, considering the massive backlash on DA2, and how some people are now saying it's got great writing, pretty much anything is possible.

But I'll fight anybody that says "In Hushed Whispers was a good quest" tooth and nail for years and years to come. Not in this thread, though.

Well we do have a 3rd game to compare the DA series now; before it was just DA:O vs DA2.

With that said, compared to DA:I I enjoyed the writing and character interaction of DA2. The character themselves felt somewhat 1 dimension, but I still enjoyed their interaction with each other and hawke. They felt like friends, more or less. I also liked the combat and character customization (stats) than what DA:I had

I think it's safe to say that nobody liked exploring reskinned dungeons, nor the ending.

DA:I combat and lack of companion commands just wasn't too good for me. I do like the characters, but there wasn't enough interaction with each other to show me. They were just ... there.

Still, overall I enjoyed DA:I but it seems as if they focused too much time/effort on the locations. As beautiful as they were, there really is no reason to visit most of the areas

Nah, the reason people trash DA2 so much, is not the game itself, but because of what it did to the DA franchise.

I've enjoyed all of the Dragon Age games. Obviously some more than others.

Dragon Age: Origins was the benchmark. Even with its flaws it captivated me with its characters and story.  Alistair, Morrigan and Flemeth in particular "made" the game for me.

Dragon Age 2 was a good game... but it lost much of the "heart" of Origins. I say that more because of design decisions rather than anything story or character related. Things like the frenetic spam combat with waves of enemies popping in out of nowhere, the reused terrain assets where every corridor you went down looked like every other corridor no matter where you were in the game, and the generic gearing. Things that kept me engaged in DA2 in spite of those flaws included the story, the great voice acting and characterizations. Listening to Aveline and Isabella go at it with each other is still a treat to this day.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is a sort of marriage of Origins and 2 with a dollop of mmo thrown in. I enjoyed Inquisition more than 2 but I'd still say Origins holds the spot for my favorite. But then it's rare for a sequel to match, let alone exceed, its originator.

I've got criticisms with all three games but I still enjoyed them all. I'd rank them DA:O > DA:I > DA:2 without a huge margin between any of them. I can only hope that DA:4 manages to take everything they did right in DA:I and proliferate it while leaving behind the things that didn't work out (like too many step and fetch filler quests for example).

DAO>=DA2>>>DAI

Writing and characters are good through all three games. Though, I don't like the exaggerated 'iconess' of the DA2 characters.

You know, it's hard not to get the impression that the thing that puts you off DA:I is that the player character is responsible for the pacing and driving the story?

I otoh, love that. I got rid of the 'turn-every-stone'-compulsion playing ES3 Morrowind ( ), and have never looked back. I love games that let you focus on the character's agenda.

DA:I does have a strong stench of MMO to it. But I blame the MP part and MP requirement for that, more than the open areas and free questing.

DA2 combat is better than DA:I combat, but that is not really any achievement. DA:I combat fails so hard on so many dimensions, but again I blame the MP part and MP requirement.

DA:O combat is functional. I don't think either DA2 or DA:I combat is. But at least DA2 combat didn't cause me to lower difficulty. DA:I did, all the way down to 'EASY'. Not because it was too hard, but because I b***y h*** couldn't be bothered with the stinking manure any longer.

It doesn't hurt my appreciation of the game much, because combat is not really anything that is important to me, when I play rpg games.

And DA:I has so much else to offer.
