1. 6-12 months down the line will DA:I be viewed in a more positive or negative light? Will those who were harsh on the game gain more of an appreciation for it, or vise versa?
2. For those who don't like the game or were really disappointed, what's your attitude towards Bioware and the Dragon Age series at this point in time? Are you no longer a fan? Are you giving up on it? Do you have low expectations for it's future?
3. Are a lot of fans really disappointed with the game, or is this the voices of a few being really loud? When the dust settles, will there be a lot more positivity towards this game a few weeks from now?
In short, BioWare made a great game.
If you think BSN is bad, check out the low lifes on youtube some time...
I know some people love the game, but the general attitude on here has been very mixed. If I'm being honest I've see a lot more who are disappointed than people who are pleased. It seems as if Bioware was aiming very high with this game, but fell completely short to a lot of you. So many people on here have been voicing their displeasure, and those who bother to give their own personal score of the game have been giving 6 and 7s. Seemingly low for a game of this budget and scale.
For those reasons, despite my personal feelings on the game, I feel like I have to acknowledge that it's critical and commercial success aside, Dragon Age: Inquisition seems to have been another disappointment to the fans. Some thought that this would end up being Bioware's big comeback. The game that would be measured up against the quality of games like DA:O or ME2, and most would agree it's as good as those titles. But as of right now it doesn't seem so.
So many questions have flooded my mind from this, I have to get them out there:

There is no forginveness for putting any amount of action in a game I loved and had no action. No matter if it passed 300 millenia, it is unforgiveable. So well yeah, game is always going to be the worst game ever made, human kind can't get any lower than DAI.
As somebody who watched the Bethesda forums rather intensely when Skyrim was released, I can assure you that you are dead wrong. Many, many people complained vociferously about Skyrim. I happened to love the game, but a lot of TES fans did not. In short, you should do a modicum of research before you make baseless claims.
Reminds me of the BioWare forums a lot. The Bethesda forums are a LOT worse than here too...

Heh. Yeah, they were pretty bad at times. That said, I don't think they were as bad as the ME3 forums for the first few months after that game was released. I think the ending of ME3 drove a lot of us kind of bananas and we turned that place into a seriously wretched hive of scum and villainy the likes of which I have not seen in a game forum before or since!
For something that was supposed to be a deep, engaging experiance it is rdiculous that vast majority of the game can be described as a shallow and meaningless fetch quest,

being in the trenches during Mass Effect 3, I can tell you the biggest problem in the end was people got too emotional. That is what usually turns forums into a **** show, letting emotions get the best of you.
It happens, but it seems to happen more and more with a small group of people on the internet on game forums.

I love ME2 to bits, but it's a dumbed-down affair in terms of RPG elements, armor, weapons, and customization and a story that's really a side-story, not a full on sequel.
It also started Bioware's trend of "throw the baby out with the bath water" tradition that Inquisition seems to be carrying on. Somehow, ME3 actually dodged it.
My general reaction to a lot of Bioware's recent stuff seems to be "It's not as good as (game), but.."

The gamebreaking bugs and the rotten combat are my only complaints about this game. One out of those two can\will be fixed.
I'd give it a 7 out of 10. Good game.

1. This game does not have the classic appeal that ME2 or Origins has. It is large forgettable. It's not quite as bad as many of the recycled AAA titles that come out from year to year that are large forgettable, but it's getting closer to that.
2. My attitude towards Bioware is anger, disappointment, betrayel, etc. I actually feel lied to, or that they are insulting me and my intelligence. Their marketing this time around was fraudulent. Their PR people tend not to take responsibility for the company's failings and mistakes... and sometimes, they even shift blame to the players (like in the case of ME3's ending criticisms). This just makes me more infuriated, that they know they are wrong and that the criticisms have merit, but they act like snakey, slimey politicians to save face.
The suppression of the the game's controls in every professional interview also makes me think they paid the gaming journalism industry to cover it up. To my knowledge, only incgamers and angry joe told the truth about the problems with the PC version of the game. IGN, Gametrailers, Gamespot, etc. all failed to mention it.
3. A lot of the people that are angry and disappointed were once the core audience of Bioware - the very customers that gave them money which allowed them to become the giant gaming company they currently are. Now, we are clearly in the minority and it seems like we are forgotten. I don't think it is a very small minority though. They should listen to us, as often what we want to happen would be beneficial for everyone.
Honestly, I think a lot of people are dumb and easy to please, and it's probably more profitable to just appeal to them than anyone that has standards and is really passionate about their past products. It's like voting for president - a huge chunk of the people have no idea what the hell they are voting for, or even understand political philosophy or anything. Only a small subset of people actually know anything. This is no different. It's just politics. Every vote is equal. The really passionate, long-term supporter of Bioware pays the same $60 as the brand new gamer who is super easily pleased and has no expectations. And unfortunately, there seems to be a lot more of them there is of us nowadays.
What upsets me about this fact is that they have abandonned quality, and they make calculated risks of failing to deliver on promises and features rather than focus on making a truly great game for everyone to enjoy. Those days are done at BIoware.
For something that was supposed to be a deep, engaging experiance it is rdiculous that vast majority of the game can be described as a shallow and meaningless fetch quest,
You know you don't need to do those sidequests if you don't want to
Those fetch quest should have not been there to begin with, if Bioware left them out at launch nobody would have missed them. They're are better ways to gain experience and to encourage exploration.
Nothing wrong with getting rid of dated mechanics if it makes the game better.
Which is exactly why they added all that stuff they removed back into ME3. And you know - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
DA2's encounter design? Broken. Fix it.
DA2's map reuse? Hated. Fix it.
DA2's tactics? Well-received. Remove it.
..wait.

We are spoiled kids heck the game could have come with a free fiver and we still would have moaned.
I am guessing that if you play DAI on a console, you have received most of what you expected, and have few mistakes, besides a few bugs. However, those of us that have followed Bioware through the past several decades, and expected a certain type of game, especially after the company promised us, that the game was being made for the PC primarily, by PC gamers, have been very disappointed. To anyone that has played PC games before, it became very evident, in the first few minutes of play, that this game was not created with PC gamers in mind, except as an afterthought. Simple little things that worked flawlessly in Dragon Age Origins, and even in DA2, now became a pain in the @$$ to make function, and in some cases, were not present at all. Movement is a big complaint, and that has been covered extensively in other threads. Another is Inventory. While the DAI system of inventory may be fine when using a console controller, for those of us on a PC, ignores the capabilities of our preferred mode of playing.
And that is just the technical flaws.
DAI is a barely veiled illusion of what a CRPG used to be. The character class choices have been pared down to a handful of choices, that will lead to nothing but cookie cutter clones. Prior Bioware CRPGs in this genre, like NWN, BG, and DO gave a player dozens of choices. And ...ability scores. The player no longer has any choice in placing ability scores to where they would like to customize their character. Basically, the character no longer belongs to the player...it is simply a role in the movie that is DAI, that follows a very strict script, with no chance to show any hint of individuality, except the cosmetic visuals you can make at creation. You may as well be playing The Witcher.
Combat is also a huge disappointment. Player control over your party is extremely difficult, to the point where many just ignore it, and put the game on the EASY setting so they can get through it. And combat graphics with party members jumping around like fleas, looks like some bad arcade fight game from the 1980's-90's. DAO combat looked much more realistic, and when Bioware went away from that in DA2, they received many complaints. Bioware promised they were returning back to their roots, but this is another example where it appears they lied, or were not able to fulfill their promise.
There are things to like in DAI. I think everyone can agree it is a beautiful world. The problem of recycling areas in DA2 has been addressed, and then some.
But, for players that prefer to play on a PC, because they want the numerous options, and ability to control their character in a way, that a console could never allow, this feels like a cheap substitute for what we were promised, and for what we have come to expect. A great game for the PC, would have been a great game for the consoles...however, the opposite is rarely true.

I actually agree, but the implementation of those ideas was imperfect and they were a source of great criticism both on and off these forums. I can't say I blame them for playing it safe with a more traditional "Big Bad" narrative. I just hope it didn't scare them off from ever trying such a thing in the future.I'm kind of torn on that actually. The world is bigger and richer, and the advisor stuff gives a new depth to things. But I really liked DA2's story and the various shenanigans Hawke got into. Hawke is more a down to earth adventurer and thug. Not a hero. And I like that. I think the combat was deeper there as well (although neither are as deep as DAO or past Bioware games).
The entitlement many here have is stunning...
like spoiled little Kids..
grow up people.. you get what you get and not what you want
thats life!!! you have 2 main options.... accept what you get and enjoy it as much as possible... or moan and groan till you loose all fun you could have
Bioware hasnt betrayed you... you people betrayed yourself.. with your inability to adapt, think outside the box and just aprecieate whats there
The main problem isnt the Game itself.. its the enormous expectations some seem to have... they will hate anything less than DAO:2 or BG3 ... with such high expectations you are bound to be disapointed...
And I honestly think some people believe they're special snowflakes who throw tantrums when they don't get what they want. Seriously, you've got alot of nerve calling people dumb and easy to please. If you don't like the game, that's fine but don't insult people who actually love this game, which seems to be the majority outside of this forum.
I'm sorry, but if you think pressing 'v' and 'r' constantly on PC is totally acceptable (just to name a few of the problems with the PC version of the game), then you're not being intellectually honest when comparing these controls with previous PC RPGs in the industry, let alone the earlier games in the series. Things are getting worse, and on top of it, they made promises and advertised specifically that it would not be this way. I am not 'special' for complaining about missing features, and misleading or fradulent advertising. That is their fault, not mine. It is not right to say that I am a special snowflake while completely glossing over their misleading and fraudulent advertising. If you want to gloss that stuff over, then you're not interested in the truth about the topic and then you're just a bioware apologist.
