The RNG seems too RNG to the point of deterring people from spending real cash on chests. I'd love to support the game but dumping real money on large chests in the current model is just basically like donating money. Even if there were a "1 guaranteed rare and 4 common chest" chances are that rare would be a low lvl item and a waste of cash. The Store chests need to seriously be reevaluated.

I will never buy a random loot box with real money, just on principle. But I especially wouldn't buy them to get free things faster than I could earn them. It would feel like cheating.

But you are right that these seem even worse than your usual loot slot machine.

I was dumb enough to spend $50.  Got complete garbage.  I've paid my fool's tax.

I was happy to spend money on the Mass Effect 3 packs because 9 times out of 10 you at least got something useful up until the point you had everything, so they almost always had value. The chests in DA:I basically give you materials 9 times out of 10. It's a very rare occurrence indeed to receive something useful.

If only crafting materials were more useful... Not to mention i have like 100+ t1, 30 t2 and like 5 t3 mats and thats not including all the mats i've used this far unlocking armors.

And because there is no gear progression everything thats not a lvl20+ rare or unique just feels like junk.

I am expecting that they'll make loot more interesting in future patches with actual weapon schematics and more interesting ways of obtaining gear rather then preying to the gods and sacrificing your first born.

And this is why the pay to win business model works.

P2W works, but Pay to Lose doesn't. In this game, you can pay for a very good chance at getting nothing. I really recommend bioware consider sellinf cosmetics for income if they can't get a good loot system like in ME3MP that's actually worth paying money for.

I didn't get much when I bought chests, when I used gold I got a tonne of uniques last night, getting gold is really fast anyway if you keep completing Threatening, so you may as well grind it

This game isn't "pay to win". I see that term thrown out there by people who erroneously think that having micro transactions is equivalent to P2W. It's not.

Yeah, it's really pay for more chances to get something useful.  P2W doesn't apply here.

No one said that it was P2W, they said that this is why a P2W model works on most games - implying that they believe it would work best on this game as well.

Just to add my 2 cents as someone who has opened A LOT of chests, the loot system is horrible, I am a top 30 player as of today, I have played 18 characters to level 20, I have completed every difficulty level and I only open large chests, I average about 25-30k per day in gold and open all of the chests at one time.

Through all of that I have never received a Purple Unique over lvl 15, 80-90% of the time if I get a purple card it is rune of some sort. Many classes I have not even found a lvl 20+ white weapon for, this does not feel like true RNG to me it feels like characters get stuck in a broken bad loot loop and are stuck there forever and as much as I enjoy the multiplayer game this one major problem is already sapping my desire to log in each day. I do not expect to have the best of everything after only a couple weeks of playing but I would like at least one top tier item by this point and from all the people I talk to in game and see on here this seems to be the consensus of about everyone. I don't want to tell Bioware how to run their game but its issues like this that will have people mass exodusing as soon as something new comes along, if you want to develop a long term gamer player base I highly recommend you bump this issue to #1 do not delay status, but that is just my opinion. Love the game, hate the loot.

I don't think you know what self entitlement actually means, but I bet you saw it on some game forums somewhere and thought it would be a cool way to get someone riled up. I'll help you out :

What Entitlement looks like:

A mother feeds herself while letting her children go hungry.
A spouse frequently spends money from the joint account on luxury items.
A teenager defiantly uses drugs and expects his parents to bail him out when he gets caught.
A woman shows up at a function or party she has not been invited to.
A middle aged man makes no attempt to save for his retirement, assuming his family will pay for everything.
An irate customer demands products and services that they have not paid for.
An angry parent wants a school to make impractical concessions or arrangements for their child.

Now if I said, I spent 70$ on this game therefore Bioware owes me good items when I play it, that is entitlement.

What I did was show how their RNG looks from the perspective of someone who has played it at the high end of their gamer base to give a larger pool from which to sample and take consideration from. If you want to act like a troll send it to me in a private message instead of trying to derail a constructive forum thread.

You were saying that you are top 30 in the leaderboards, make over 25k gold a day and would like to have some of the best items within less than 2 weeks of the game being out. That has self entitlement written all over it.

I gave the example of 25-30k per day to show that I have opened a lot of chests, and therefore have a wide range of experience with doing so, I gave the example of being in the top 30 and having completed all difficulty levels because there are many posts on here that say that loot level and quality changes based off of your "score" just saying top 30 shows where that score falls on the current spectrum (around 216 points) , I stated that I had leveled every character to 20 some multiple times to show that I have covered every base that I could think of that would possibly fix whatever bottleneck that has the chests I loot stuck on sub level 20 gear. In other words I made an intelligent argument for a broken loot system, you on the other hand highlighted one partial sentence, out of context, and tried to troll, you failed.

There's nothing 'out of context' about this, you felt you had bragging rights because you've put in more hours than other people. I am not 'top 30' and I have completed every difficulty, people shouldn't have the best item in the game within the first week or two of the game being released. The loot system can be changed, yes, no one is disputing that. However, when you made the statement "I'd like to have at least one best item" that's where the entitlement conflicts with your statement. It made you seem a little bit greedy by wanting something that powerful in such a short time because you are putting in more hours than normal people.

That is the whole sentence, from which you took a partial part and used it to try and start an argument, the very definition of out of context.... Just stop, you are embarrassing yourself.

I hope Bioware doesn't submit to spoilt children, it'll only ruin the game.

Gonna have to side with EF on this one. His post did not have the feel of someone coming on the forum to shout, "I am the bestest of the bestest! I deserve, nay, DEMAND that I have all the bestest of the bestest loots because I am ElectricFeel!"

What he did was say that given the amount of time he has already played, he expected that he would have at least 1 top tier item. To add context, he submitted his resume, which happened to include being top 30, making 30K+ gold per day (enough to buy 25 large chests), being capable of completing missions at any difficulty, and had made it to max level 18 times already. These were not stated as bragging rights, but merely listed to show what achievements he had completed that would lead someone to think that they would already have a piece of top tier gear. To me, that does not sound like someone crying that they paid for the game, they should get whatever they want when they want it.

I personally would expect that after hitting lvl 20 with 2 or 3 classes I would see 2 or 3 purple weapons or armors of varying levels. After hitting lvl 20 18 times I would expect to see at least 1 top tier item. That is not self entitlement. It is merely my opinion of what to expect from this type of game after 20+ years of gaming (is that bragging, or is it just sad?).

Just like to add my voice to EF, I've promoted 17 times and have yet to see a single level 23 rare let alone unique. In fact, I've already gotten duplicate low level unique twice now, to me, that feels like something is very wrong with the loot system when I've friend who got their first level 23 unique within the first 2 days. With little to no sense of progression and the reward being based solely on RNG instead of your performance, there's really no point to continue playing the game once you realize that.

I understand that there is a lot of room for improvement. Bioware could make choices to either ruin or complete multiplayer, depending if they chose the micro transactions path or whether they chose to keep everyone happy by making all items obtainable and craftable in some form.
