I didn't wonder about it until we built our army and brought the Arl to Denerim. I'm still finishing up sidequests before I take them to the Landsmeet, so I think it's funny that even though we're staying with the Arl, we still camp out in the woods.
lol yeah, "hey forget this nice lavish comfort I want a cold hard ground outside!" lol I think if anywhere in the game needed a rest option that was it.
I mean obviously none of this is a game breaker, just more a role playing type thing I guess.
The one thing I didn't like about the camping stuff was how everyone was spread out doing there own thing, no sense of unity

or at least with the warrdens keep u should be able to use the castle there to fortify it as a base
Agreed a lot like you did the castle in NWN2
In fact when I first got that mission and Levi talked about it being a base I was a bit stoked about it, thinking that maybe just maybe I'd be able to utilize it that way.

I wouldn't mind if there was a bit more movement and randomness among the campers. I don't mind the fact that they're kinda spread out, but at the same time I wish there was more faux interaction. Like, show Leliana actively helping Alistair worry over a boiling pot, or Sten and/or Oghren polishing their sword (ugh, stupid Ogrhen ruined that for me! ~shakes fist at the dorf~). Maybe have Shale swatting at birds, or twitching at the sound of chirping. Maybe Wynne or Morrigan meditating...or in Morrigan's case, maybe reading a certain grimoire.
Maybe have some more tents or boxes/crates as your army grows...
Little things, really, and nothing I'd pay extra to see in-game, just "Would be nice" kinda things. As is the game is pretty close to perfect as an RPG

It isn't a deal-breaker for me, and didn't ever detract from the overall experience. With that said, however, there are always, "I wish" and yeah, in the absolute perfect scenario, if it didn't mean having to give up something huge in its place, I'd have loved to have seen some sort of progress with camp sites.

Agreed and pretty much my thoughts on it all.
