But holy hell the main storyline quests are just insanely amazing....
On an unrelated note I just got a quest from Varric "Well ****".

Open worlds generally mean you're either going to have a number of generic side-quests, or else a whole lot of empty landscape.
but yeah, the main story has been awesome for me so far.
Main story is great. Side quests...not so much. They are rather lackluster at best. It's disappointing. I'd gladly trade in open world exploration for better, more engaging side quests.
Exactly, that's why I posted my other thread "Quantity over quality".
oh god... another one?
i have just finished "Here Lies the Abyss" and it is one of the best quests i have ever played. It is all about the wardens if u like them!

Ah, yes. I love the quest, but I can't watch the opening cutscene. Because it's bugged and hangs. Every single time.
Glad to see this game wasn't playtested at all.

Companion/advisor quests are really good, main side quests in given areas are very well done as well.
While sidequests do tend to be a bit generic and repetative I actually didn't find most of them so bad, the most annoying ones where the fetch quests when they were all about running back and forth picking up things, like the shards, basically involved no fighting just houres of running around - really felt like a time sink, but had one of the best rewards in the game so I didn't really want to skip it.
I disagree strongly.
I love the majority of sidequests in DA:I. You find a note telling someone to meet the other in a secluded place in a forest, you track down the said place only to find remnants of a meeting gone bad. You examine it further and in the end, find out what happened. It's a small story inside a major story, totally unrelated to the grand scheme of things, but essential in making the world seem alive ![]()
Someone on another forum mentioned that a ton of RPG designers today probably learned quest design from WoW and other MMOs. Scary thought. All the side content in this game is so terrible.
Forgotten Oasis is a pretty terrible zone in terms of getting those shards. I`m pretty sure the map designer was laughing at the though of poor players bouncing and falling all over the map for hours.
Too easy: complaints of boring fetch quests.
Less easy: complaints of players struggling with a non-flat map!
Can't win really ![]()
I enjoyed it.
The optional quests in this game are worst than Skyrim's side quests. And THAT says something. I'd rather have no side quests and more explorable ruins/dungeons instead of side quests clearly thrown in at the last minute ("pls collect 100 of tis thing 4 me iunquoistor!" "inquisotr pls kill 4 of tis genric enemy of mine tat are across da wolrd!" "inquysitr will u pls corrlect theis mage toimbs 4 pme pls kbthx?").
Main quests are great though.
The only sidequests I do not like are things like the ruffalo and halla herding quests. Nonsense that the Inquisitor wouldn't have time to deal with... but of course, you do have the option to not do them.

Depends on the Inquisitor. This is where the roleplay value comes in. If your Inquisitor wouldn't do those things, don't do them.
Halla herding sort of makes sense - you need to convince Dalish clan that you have good intentions, a personal touch is required.
And Companion quests do not nearly measure up to those in Mass Effect 2, at least in length if not in quality. May have been too much to hope for, since Mass Effect 2 does have a heavy focus on companions, but alas.

Well those were the best parts of ME2 by a long shot.
I go about 2-4 hours on side quests then break it up with a story mission or companion quests or doing things in skyhold. There is so much to do in this game you DON'T need to keep doing the ****** sidequests over and over. Leave some for a second playthrough. It won't kill you. I've left a whole zone aside for my next run because I out-leveled it. I ain't bothered.
Exactly this. I am finding it's enjoyable to do a story mission, then go to a zone or two, in order to level up for the next story mission. I explore, gather herbs & mine ore, collect shards, and do side quests. It's relaxing and fun for me. Maybe if I want a change of pace I'll do an Inner Circle quest. After that, I'm usually at a good level for the next story mission, which are exciting and dialogue heavy. Basically there's a rhythm to the game play. If you spend all your time in zones leveling, and ignoring the story missions/companion quests, you're gonna get bored. If you spend all your time doing the opposite, you're gonna get bored (or run out of content!) Switch it up.
