It's close, actually. At least 40/60. Got any statistics to back up your statements? i remember seeing a poll a while ago.

A poll here on this very forum with maybe 50 participants, right? Right???

Please don't tell me that you honestly believe that to be representative in ANY way.

You actually think as many women bought Dragon Age as men? Seriously? You even think it was close?

I think that when you factor in straight women, gay men, gay women, bisexual men, bisexual women, etc. that the percentage is much closer than you indicate.  Especially among the hardcore Bioware fans.  I'm not concerned about the casual fans who pick it up and never finish it or have never played a game in the series before.

Do you?

On a side note. How many girls/women do you know that own Playstation's and X Boxes? How about men? Is it even comparable?

Even less so actual gaming (HT)PCs.

The only statistics we have is that survey released recently showing women playing more RPGs than men. Anything else is guesswork.

I would guess Bioware's original fanbase was mostly men, but the fanbase today is almost unrecognisable compared to back then.

Closer how?

Are you seriously trying to say that it is close to equal?

So 20% hetero male

     20% hetero female

     20% gay/bi male

     20% gay/bi female

     20% asexual/confused

I think that you are wrong on this one, pal.  I agree that there are probably more straight male players of the game.  But Bioware has a fanbase that is much more diverse than the 'typical' game.  The fact that they let you play as a woman or non-straight person has really garnered them a lot of rep from 'non-traditional' (aka not straight men) gamers.  Again, I think straight men make up more than 50% of their fanbase, but not by the margin that you are suggesting.

No.  I think that it's more like 60% straight men and 40% everyone else (but those numbers are just anecdotal).

Also, asexuals aren't confused about their sexuality.  Welcome to the BSN.  You're going to do great here.....

I don't think straight men hit 50% of Bioware's fanbase anymore. But it's probably close.

Also Bioware are trying to become more like Skyrim, a game which has a high percentage of female gamers...

I would assume that heterosexual men are the largest portion of Dragon Age's audience by a high percentage. It would only make sense that a large number of the romances be for that target audience. Instead Bioware used an equal amount of it's time to cater to a tiny but vocal demographic.

Actually, most recent studies have shown that a slight majority of RPG gamers are female.  Its shooters where the high percentage of men remains the case.  Its about 50/50 in MMOs, IIRC.

Those stereotypes of 15-25 year old men dominating gaming are about 10 years out of date.

I didn't suggest any margin. Just that heterosexual males were the vast majority of their audience. You admit to 50%. So from an economics perspective they should have spent at least 50% of their romance time on romances fro heterosexual males.

The forums aren't even close to accurate. Just look how divergent the numbers over Mass Effect were.

What studies? What did they classify as an RPG?

Even assuming straight men are the largest portion of the audience - and nobody has any reliable statistics to back up that claim - that doesn't mean they should automatically get the most romances. And it doesn't mean that they're the target audience. BioWare have been pretty vocal about wanting to make games that appeal to all kinds of people, not just straight men.

If some straight men have a problem with not getting the entire pie, one might suggest that they could probably find some other franchise that caters to them. Somehow.

Uh.....no.  They have a pretty solid stance on this.  They don't cater to straight male players.  Their words.  They make inclusive games that cater to everyone.  It's their thing.  If that's not your thing, then their games aren't for you.

If it only had RPG elements then there would be no RNG involved in combat. There is RNG in Dragon Age Inquisition.

I think the romances in future Dragon Age games should be decided by RNG.

That way, 90% will get bored and quit before they even get to the romance, and I will be able to romance my Black Widow X.

Why not? If your a majority of your market wants x, shouldn't you spend the bulk of your resources on x?

Assuming this is really about economics and providing the consumer what he wants, as opposed to having an agenda.

There's a gap in this logic somewhere. "They can cater to everyone..but not you."

That's probably why there are all those sex mods, boob mods and female high res nudity textures, right? :)

Because they want to expand the market to more than just "x", obviously. Considering they want the Skyrim crowd, which has a high number of women playing due to its sim like qualities, and the companies dedication to bringing in a more diverse crowd to supplement its original fanbase, then no you shouldn't be spending all your resources on "x".

I do. I know more women playing dragon age games than men in real life. Beeing in an IT major probably has something to do with it. Still, it might not be an even split but women are far from being a tiny minority. The mass effect series seems to have more male fans, even if not by much. If you're talking about gamers in general, yeah, there's probably more male gamers.

I agree that there isn't much variety in LIs compared to what straight women/bi people get. Adding scout Harding might have been a good idea, seeing that she's pretty popular with the fanbase and rather cute. Still, asking for brothels and bewbs!1!! makes most of the complainers look desperate and sex deprived. It's hard to take threads seriously when they start like this.

Yeah, Bioware's never going to bow down to random forum begging, even if there's a lot of it.

Oh hi, Cullen.

Whether there are "many" sex mods is a question of perspective. There are 20 million players of Skyrim, how many sex mods are there and how many people use them?

Ever heard of "redundancy"?

Also, you can look up DL numbers on plattforms as nexus mods.
