But personal preference -

Actually **** it, I'd rather watch you pretend that all straight men have the same taste. /popcorns

I have never said all. I have said almost all, and I am right.

Me and most people I know like actractive women, not orcs taken from Mordor with manlier looks and personalities than ours. You can look at what is socially percieved as attractive, at the kind of physical looks directors looks for their movies, see Hollywood, the greatest example of looking to cater the biggest audience possible, look at the way female characters are in videogames that caters for male audiences, or simply go out and see in the streets with your own eyes how are most couples. Most straight males looks for an atractive, hot and cute person to have a relation with, not for orcs.

But ey, if you prefer an ugly woman great, I don´t care. But when it comes to videogame romances, in a game that have great romances (both on physical looks and on personality) for every sexuality a player may had except for an heterosexual male player, then we have a problem, specially when in every past Bioware and later Bioware-EA game (Mass Effect 1, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2) there was never any problem with the options straight men players got. Then we have Dragon Age Inquisition, where straight men players get the worst romances of the history of Bioware with ugly women with bad (and one of them plain) personalities while not only straight females and gay/lesbian people get way better romances with way better cute, hot and interesting characters, but half the NPCs of the game and the whole Orlesian Court seems like Queer as Folk in a medieval setting. A lot of straight players starts to wonder why and you are surprised about it?

This is the perfect example of an inverted troupe on videogames, and on a bad way. I don´t have absolutely any problem with the sexual orientation of anyone, one of my best friends is gay and why would I have to tell him what he can do or not with his private life? I am very glad that this game allows for him to romance Dorian, the best character of the game, and I don´t have any problem with a fantasy medieval setting where women are equal than men and where homosexuality is accepted, my problem comes when it seems like almost every straight NPC seems whiped out of the game, when almost every NPC with power on the game is gay/lesbian, when (most, because there is always exceptions of people who may like Cass/Josephine) straight male players get screwed over romances and when Bioware starts to advertise their characters based on their homosexuality (Dorian) and not on how much well written they may be or not (in Dorian´s case he is awesome, but the way he was advertised at first...) like if they were trying to cater more to gay and lesbian people than the rest.

Not every romance involves sex.

I was generalising not saying one person. I dont see cassandra as ugly or Josephine.

Yeah, when I was 10 years old I didn´t have sex with my girlfriend. The thing is, I am not roleplaying a 10 years old Inquisitior romancing a 10 years old counselor of diplomatic relations.

I understand Solas romance not involving sex because (spoilers) but for everyone else why not?

Actually, I had more than a few issues with Mass Effect 1's romances across the board. Ashley to me was far more unappealing than Cassandra and Liara was straight up boring. Kaidan was....basically Carth Onasi, without the revenge story.

Unless we want to see a return to player sexual romances to minimize the risk of distasteful partners (which I personally don't), the only other option is to risk getting the shaft in terms of characters you want to romance.

Cassandra is actually gorgeous and I suspect you'd put some long hair on hair and 95% on the complaints on her looks would vanish. It's not the devs fault straight males have flop taste.

Ah!!!1

NOW I get it! Josephine was the romance option for the asexual of us! Wow, Bioware just included another sexuality minority. Impressive, good job!

If you genuinely believed a lot of straight men didn't complain about their options in the previous games, I'm going to put even more popcorn in the microwave. Morrigan was too bitchy, Leliana was too preachy, Isabela was too slutty and Merrill was too baby-ish. Hell, I haven't even tackled Mass Effect and others. All these arguments just boil down to preference and everytime someone wanders in and acts like Bioware is actively trying to set a whole group back with the intention on... what? Making the developers jump up from their chair and quickly start planning to make more "pretty" (again, the Cassandra thread is full of fans who think she's gorgeous so subjective words are very subjective) women for the handful of complaining men?

Hah I say. Hah. And that is why I don't bother to argue more - because I know BW is not going to be concerned that a few guys think Cassandra is "ugly".

Well said. I'm cool with people disliking their romance options, but acting like Bioware has committed some crime against humanity because you find yourself disliking your current options seems a bit weak. You always run the risk of encountering characters you dislike.

Other issue with this is that it leads to homogenization of content, which I despise. "Every romance has to end in a sex scene". "Every romance has to end with the protagonist running off with his love into the sunset", so on and so forth. Every character should be treated as an unique encounter, and design their story accordingly.

I'd rather give Bioware the freedom to make these characters feel like people, rather than force on them an exclusive policy.

Judging from the avatar pictures, I find it interesting if not outright funny how mostly women seem to think they can tell the straight men complaining that a) said guys simply have bad taste and b ) that Josephine and particularly Cassandra are in fact absolutely beautiful to behold and interesting as a character. I'm sure that must work wonders for you in Real Life. No offense.

It is true though that a straight male only has one straight character to romance. I am playing a male character for my first playthrough, so I have opted to stay romance free.

Naw, just treat it as a teachable moment.
...or a ridicule opportunity.
*torn*

I went through this decision dilemma.

I'm pretty patient and started explaining it reasonably, but there are only so many times you can do that.

I don't mind an honest question it's the dumb and hating questions I dislike.

The OP's question was better than most and it was quickly revised once further information was shared,

but yes, these threads are regular occurrences and no, as others have put more eloquently, there is nothing requiring whining about.

Anyone who thinks Cass is "manly" has never seen a woman in real life.

Anyone who gets this pressed about pixelated boobies needs to GET a life.

Full stop.

2 was the same amount we (straight men) got in DA2, as well. And in DA:O, for that matter. I don't see a problem at all? DA2 actually felt like 1 choice, though. Given that Merril seemed to be 12 years old and being with her felt like a fellony.

First, take a moment to reflect on the fact that you wrote a several hundred word essay on romance options in a video game. Not the combat mechanics, not the writing, not the multiplayer, the romance options. This warrants a fairly epic facepalm. Second-

I honestly think all characters should be bisexual though.

Just like real life, right? Granted, its a fantasy game, so there's dragons and wizards and all sorts of unrealistic stuff, but writers and developers tend to like to ground their game worlds in some semblance of reality, by not doing things like making everyone have the same sexual orientation when in fact people have different sexual orientations.

For some reason Bioware doesnt care about realism and will always put the same amount of lgbt characters or more in your party even though the lgbt community represents roughly 3% of the world. Having a gay party member is not  a bad thing at all but Id rather it be done how it would be in real life by having them be in the minority. If they cared about their world and lore more than pandering and trying to be the champions of social justice wed have a more realistic lgbt population in thedas. We should have had a maximum of two different lgbt characters in our party at this point.
