How is it not an rpg?
Technically every video game is an rpg. But this is a singleplayer mmo with tacked on multiplayer.

It is an RPG, some people like to be contrary for the sake of edginess.

Sorry, I haven't hopped on the "worship Bioware" bandwagon. I still have my own thoughts and opinions.
I've been taking my time with this game and I'm just savoring it and enjoying it. I plan on doing all of the side content and have been doing that along with mixing in the main story missions.
I am in the main quest not too far I believe, my next quest is called In your heart shall burn I think. Have to check the journal. But I just arrived in the desert area in search of a temple, so I'll be exploring there for a bit.
Well you are in for a treat.
Welcome to the family OP. I suggest that you play both DAO and DA2. Both in my opinion are good games for different reasons. Both games also have their faults. The Ultimate edition of DAO and a copy of DA2 are very inexpensive.
DAI is not an crpg? Well that brings one back to the definition of what is an crpg. No one is going to agree on the definition because everyone has an opinion.
IMHO, DAI is most definitely a crpg, but then I remember all the angst about Origins when it first came out that it was not the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate that Bioware promised. Now some gamers are considering it to be one of the pinnacles of crpgs despite other gamers saying it dumb down a great deal of what made earlier crpgs special in their minds.
I would tell the OP to get both of the earlier games and form you own opinions. I am glad you are having a blast playing DAI.
This my two cents, but for everyone else YMMV.
I am really liking this game a lot. It's a really good rpg.
Good job, BioWare.
Nice post OP.
Simple, concise, friendly. +1

No, you're on the "irrational hate" bandwagon.
Doesn't look as enjoyable, everyone looks miserable.
Welcome aboard the Dragon Age wagon!
I am also a big ME fan, and to be honest, I never really cared for RPG's.
I did eventually decide to try DA:Origins, and have to say that after a while I did get into it. DA2 was alright for what it was. I too recommend that if you can find some good deals, grab DAO and DA2 as well. I like the way BW does their games. (I did try Skyrim but just couldn't get into it)
This is a great game! I really hope you do try Origins as it is another fantastic game.
I never played DA:2. So after I'm done with Inquisition I may just go back and play it like it's a prequel or something. Probably will play DA:O again too.

Just a little heads up, having a contradictory opinion doesn't automatically make you more intelligent.
Saying something is not an RPG, and then calling it "a single player MMO" is ridiculous. What I assume you mean is it plays like a single player MMORPG, because I can't imagine you'd claim it's an MMOFPS or an MMORTS. And if you do indeed mean it plays like a single plater MMORPG...well you can see the flaw in your argument, I hope.
If you can't, here let me help: that means it's an RPG.
This game is an RPG. I don't have to worship Bioware to know that. Hell, this has absolutely ZERO to do with even liking the game. It's an RPG, that's a fact, not an opinion. Whether it's the kind of RPG you like is another matter entirely. But I've wasted enough time with you.
More points, why playing DA:O and DA II would be beneficial for your understanding:
1) In DA:O you have an action bar for really all skills. You would see, why many people here complain about the small thingy they gave us in DA:I
2) Many characters in DA:I have a history, e.g Cullen, Leliana, Morrigan and many more. You would see their development over the course of the games
3) Tactics... see for yourself what we had and what we have
4) You would understand, why certain choices in the Keep would have more or less impact on DA:I
I'm sure that this list could be continued, but I don't want to overstress it.
And yes... of course DA:I is a first class, pure-blooded RPG, despite what some know-all wrote.
