Let me say right off, I really liked this game, loved the writing, loved most of the side quests, even. The combat however... but I have never come to any bioware game looking for innovative or super-awesome combat. I come for the story, the characters, the overall experience, and I am rarely, if ever, disappointed. That said, I have a bit of a beef. After watching a few of the demos, I was a bit more hopeful for the fighting in inquisition, however it almost feels like this combat system was a combination of my least favorite traits from Origins and DA2 combined. While in real time, targeting fallen enemies only worked about half the time with my dual wielding rogue, which was especially frustrating if I used up an attack with a longer recharge time, and the method for pausing to issue commands, then advancing in slomo actually felt buggier than issuing commands did in DAO. Unfortunately, unless I controlled my party's every move, they often flat-out ignored the pre-set commands I gave them on the traits screen, except for chugging potions appropriately, which they all seemed happy to do. The most frustrating thing, however, was the fact that my entire party ignored my hold position commands. It didn't matter if I turned off all their pre-sets on the traits screen and told each of them individually to bloody stay put, they felt compelled to surround my Lavellan and offer the world's worst honor guard while she was attempting to sneak up on her hapless quarry and stab it in the back. It really made dragon-fighting a b-word, too. No matter how many times I tried to move my mages/archers back out of the way, and separate them (you know, so one firy/lighteningy/icy ball of death didn't demolish two party members in one blow) they inevitably attempted to run right in for the kill, or bunch up and get mauled. This was also a problem in non combat situations. When I was trying to complete certain temple puzzles which required my party split up, it was nigh impossible. Also, when attempting to platform (which was a whole 'nother issue. Many curses were uttered while

), the hold position command should have kept my party members from getting in my way. It didn't, at all. So, in conclusion, I suppose my suggestion is this- please give us a "hold position" command that actually works- both during combat, and while just toolin' around the place.

LOL. So someone else's hold position command is broken.
I thought I wouldn't be able to finish that puzzle with the statue firing arrows on 4 targets because some party members just won't stay put.

There's barely any tactics in this game. I just gave up trying to be tactical other than move from point A to B.
