There's no need to be hostile please Nathair.

Um... I'll bear that in mind?

No thank you i suspect my ex would have me in court in a custody battle pretty quick.

Really? You think your ex would try to force you to take custody of the kids if you appeared to be gay? That's refreshingly liberal... or something.

Currently in a relationship with a woman. So not gay.

In any case I have to go to bed nice to read peoples opinions and voice my own.  Night all.

Another Dorian fan!  I LOVE that character.  Inside of 5 minutes I loved him.  Before I was done with his introductory quest he was my favorite companion.

My Dalish flirted with him shamelessly, even knowing the bad blood between Tevinter and elves and he certainly bantered along with her.  Then the 'big reveal' from his personal quest happened and my Dalish just stood there flabbergasted....whhhat--preferring men, is that even a thing?--she was such a naive girl.  She took it all in stride though and accepted it for what it was, harmless courtly flirtation (kind of like what happens with Teagan in Origins).  She fell into Cullen's arms instead (yea I know, she just loved those shemlen men--I think it's the facial hair) and Dorian became one of her constant companions traveling everywhere with her.  Along with Dorian, she picked Blackwall and Varric, who also possess hairy features in some manner, one on his face, the other on his chest, to travel with as she restored order to Southern Thedas.

There were options to flirt with Vivienne (she calls you 'charming' in an amused tone) and Cassandra, who ignores you if you're female.  I am unsure who else you can just flirt with without them taking you up on it.

I was disappointed they weren't doing the "everyone for the PC" romances this time either, but considering the flak they took for the last game's LI's I can see why they did it this way.  And if Dorian hadn't been gender locked I'd never have seen any of the other romances because he'd have been the one I'd pick every single time.  I adore the character that much!

I have this problem, I just can't romance anyone else after having romanced Dorian! It would be like cheating in an alternate universe (i.e. a second playthrough).
Unless... unless I play a female inquisitor!

... Same, he's my guilty pleasure. I WAS going to romance Cassandra on my 2ed playthrough, flirted with her and then I sided with the mages.

And there he was, being sassy and I... just... yeah...

So I'm sitting here roaming around with Dorian always in my party, again, and having a grand ol' time.

I don't have the issue of not being able to romance Dorian (I'm looking forward to Riding the Bull in my next playthrough, but after that, I'll probably be Dorian for life) but oh man, how do I get him out of my party. D: I don't think I've had another mage with me ever since I got him. Trevelyan is starting to come across like an Overly Attached Boyfriend. ;____;

"DORIAN. Come! We're off to do some elfy things with elfy people!"

"That sounds wonderful, truly, but would Solas not be better suited to-"

"NO. IT HAS TO BE YOU. ALWAYS YOOOOUUUU." At which point he'd probably scramble up into Leliana's rafters like some sort of unholy Gollum.

I'm going to force myself to give Bull's romance a go with my dwarf on this new playthrough.  I have to see if it stands up to Dorian's.  Then I'm doing a lady dwarf, so no Dorian for her.  After two consecutive runs without Dorian-loving, I'm almost certainly going to be Dorian-for-life in every playthrough afterwards.

You have to admit, though, both Fem and Male hawke are pretty high on the sexy meter.

From a roleplay perspective i prefer my companions to be not cardboard cut outs waiting for me to tell them what to be. If they have their own personality, likes, dislikes and preferences then they feel more real to me than otherwise. One of my personal issues with DA2 was that companions were really plastic and bend to your will. And this way there are no surprises such as random guys mid conversation if you are male all like "Have i ever told you i want your man meat?" *looks down and grins* i think Anders and Kaiden caused a few angry rants from that XD.

No actually the other romance option of Josephine isn't really a romance as much as a half romance

Why is she a half romance? I'm confused.

Because Josephine doesn't show her bewbz.

No seriously, it's because she doesn't have on screen sex with the Inquisitor that people are calling her a 'half romance'.  Despite the fact that neither does Solas and I don't see people making the same claim about him.

I.O.U. one like.

Also, I owe Cassandra about a dozen likes for her "disgusted noise" meme!

Yea, I'm intending on something like this too. Explore all the story consequences as well. Then one final playthrough with Dorian romance and all choices (like who'll be the Divine etc.) I want in any future DA hehe

No actually the other romance option of Josephine isn't really a romance as much as a half romance and in order for me to do the other romances i have to pick a specific gender race or sexuality. I would much prefer to have the options open rather than restricting them all entirely by gender/sexuality/race i think someone made a good suggestion here about giving us the option of deciding ourselves. Not a bad idea don't you think?

It is a bad idea.  Bioware did that with the LI's in DA2 and people bitched and whined that 'everyone wouldn't be bisexual'.

Seems they can't win for losing.

A lot of Pen and Paper RPGs have restrictions. in the Pathfinder Adventure Paths you can't play certain characters, in the Skulls and Shackles it is nigh on Impossible to play a Paladin, or in Wrath of the Righteous one can not play an evil character.

In a CRPG it is more restrictive by it's very nature, by embracing this they can create a compelling story using the nature of the medium that Bioware is working in.

Solas was A. not originally supposed to be a romance, B. doesn't have boobs, and C. isn't eating one of only two lesbian slots with the other being an extremely abrasive nut.

Yep.  That's exactly what I'm going to do.

First playthrough:  Qunari warrior - trying out a soft-run of my canon choices - romance Dorian because *swoon*

Second playthrough:  Dwarf rogue - trying out a few alternate choices and running him as a sarcastic funny guy - romance Bull to see what he's like

Third playthrough - Dwarf warrior (female) - importing a different world state - trying out the total opposite choices than before - romance either Blackwall or Sera

Fourth playthrough - a redo of my first playthrough, but this time making deliberate decisions to get the 'canon' state that I want - likely romancing Dorian again, unless Bull was just that good.

If I were Bioware, I wouldn't even comment on this nonsense, because:

DA:O comments: oh my god, no 'true gay' characters. Oh my god, I can't romance 'x"

DA2 comments: oh my god, everybody is bisexual.

DA:I comments: oh my god, I can't romance everybody.

They just can't do it right. Maybe they should leave the whole romance thing out of it in the next game.

Seems they can't win for losing.

This method also gives them the ability to write better histories and personal quests in which previous relationships figure. They can also  flesh out the relationships between NPCs a lot more this way. I think they've made the right move.

Anyone else want to play the "...and I hate Sera" drinking game with me?

Every time someone appends random Serahate onto an unrelated post you drink, in an unrelated thread you drink twice.

Sounds like fun? Or just like a very short trip to alcohol poisoning?

Believe me, I wouldn't be complaining nearly so much if I didn't love her and want to help her at the same time. Otherwise she'd be like Fenris and I'd never talk about her at all.

Maaaaan ... stupid old me always thought that romance was about the well ... romance not about the sex. *sigh*

I like that they have written her romance that way. She is a proper lady and behaves like a proper lady should. It's like the medieval "Minne" - courtly love where you desire but not necessarily have sex or even touch.

Sex is a part of the romance.

Also, it has nothing to do with minne. It's just a standard romance where the sex is offscreen.

What race will you be playing the final redo?
