My laypersons feedback for Inquisition, in case you're interested Bioware.

First up, I just wanted to mention that I actually enjoyed the game immensely. Major props to you guys and gals at the Bioware game studios (and your production partners) for going into overdrive finishing this game, and I just wanted to let you know that your late night pizza milestone review quaffing, alongside the obligatory alcohol, was well spent.

 

My likes:

• Combat. For the most part I thought it was smooth and responsive.

• The story. I personally didn't think it was too cliched. I would have liked to have learnt more about Coreyphius though. I would have liked to learn more about Nightmare too. I thought Samson was sort of just pushed on me, or maybe I walked past wherever he was in Haven without noticing because he sort of just become a 'big deal' and I was a bit lost by his introduction. I remembered him from DA2 however and I did like that he was a bit more deep than 'rwoar, me crazy and want to destroy the world!', but his development seemed rather minor.

• Tied into above, but I liked Corypheous (good grief, I have no idea how to spell his name!). However, I felt like he was explained better in DA2's DLC than during the entire events of Inquisition. 

• The companions/advisors. I think these are all fleshed out with their own motivations and interests, and I thought that was rather exceptional.

• The environments. Some stood out more than others; standouts for me would be the Hinterlands and Emerald Graves. 

• The art direction. Major, major props to your talented art director and his crew. Obviously frostbite looks gorgeous and all, but the art design brings everything to life.

• Passive traits unlocking attribute bonuses.

• Advanced Specialisation lock-ins. I greatly enjoyed how they became a focus for your character. It meant more to me rather than picking some points in say Blood Mage, some other points in another specialisation etc, etc.

 

My dislikes:

• I think that this game is by far one of the buggiest that Bioware has made. I feel that perhaps unfamiliarity to the Frostbite engine could make up for some of this, but here's some issues that I've encountered at the very least on the xbox one version of the game:

 

 

• Instability. The game crashes back to desktop occasionally.

• Loading: The game takes ages to load at some times. Some cut-scenes caused issues as well, including the dragon introduction cutscene during the final battle with Coreyphius or however you spell it. The one where Cole wants to decide whether he wants to be a spirit or attempt to be a human also took a couple of times to actually load it for whatever reason.

• Cache problems: Possibly related to above, but typically encountered during the Skyhold area's, but sometimes Iron Bull didn't want to load inside the Tavern at various points within the game. Exiting the tavern, running around and coming back typically solved the issue as well. Post epilogue I was running around Skyhold when I noticed that Cullen hadn't loaded, then I noticed that most of the people around Blackwall including himself didn't load (including those merchants). I then ran back into Skyhold and noticed that not only was my throne no longer there, but neither were the tables, the various nobles, Josephine and Varric either. Undercroft was inexplicably barren too. Saving and reloading the save fixed the issue though.

• Hanged speech. Pretty prevalent in practically every conversation with Hawke, although when you're all in the fade together it was rather flowing. Had to sometimes spam x and miss bits of the convo.

 

• Too many sidequests. I like sidequests, but I believe that Hinterlands in particular just goes overboard. Perhaps this is a problem with having such an open world. It could be just me but I felt some sidequests go absolutely nowhere as well (for example; the pushed women in Emerald Graves? I went to the Chatteau and it sort of just... petered out I felt). Getting the +10 Cunning datacron though was pretty nice ;)

• The main story needed more focus. Another problem with open world games is, imo, that the main story seems almost like an after thought mainly because your swamped by things to do. I loved what I played, it's just that I thought it wasn't very long. i didn't really feel as if I was leading the Inquisition either, but was an observer to what was ostensibly my own organisation but didn't actually feel like it. The leadership you do provide was very very minor and the inquisition members  you do meet in the world are complete pacifists. You could train a big bear to come into your camp, and the soldiers will just oogle at the spectacle.

• War Council missions. I felt this took way too much time for very little gain. When I started to get epic level gear, I don't really care about getting a blue level magister staff for example. Spending 15 or 16 real life hours to get a piece of paper from the Hero of Fereldan and a belt was a bit of a let down. It was sort of monotonous for no real reason, even Planet Scanning had a point to it (in there somewhere). Being somewhat of an obsessive compulsive who wanted to get that 'perfect game', yes I did try and do every single one of those missions.

• Influence. I wish we saw more of an ingame effect of influence in the game beyond the perks system (which was rather awesome in what we did get).

• Reduced customization of your character. While I loved that you had to choose a spec and 'stick with it', including advanced specialisations, I wasn't a fan of being unable to play with your own attributes. I like the idea (even if I may be terrible at it) of min-maxing my characters. Being unable to put some extra points into Magic or whatever was disappointing.

• No mounted combat! :(

 

Anyway, those are what I can think of off the top of my head. Others should feel free to append their thoughts and opinions. Hopefully this'll be a breathing document but more than anything, provide something constructive.
