A question to you dwarven inquisitors!

I have become recently awefully tempted to go and make myself a dwarven Inquisitor, but due to the previous games I find myself unsure if I went to invest the time in creating them, only to find myself constantly dissapointed due to cinematics, conversations and so forth!

So my question is; how is it being a dwarven Inquisitor? Are you constantly stood on a box out of view to be at the 'right' height, or barely are the tops of the head only ever seen? I remember some romance related scenes would often have you suddenly at their height.

After playing through some of the game already too, and knowing some of whats to come, is the reason I am not making one now seeing as most of these scenes are quite a few hours in but I can just see them being terribly awkward or just being solved by that box I mentioned.

I've only gotten as far as haven at the start with my dwarfette, but so far the cutscenes have been ok. Often times, the cutscenes are angled up from below, as if from a dwarfs point of view, which is rather neat. (if not a reminder of how short I am) Does make me sad that Verric isn't romancable, cause lets face it...all the romance interests are so tall.

I cant speak for dwarves, but as a Qunari there is also a distinct hieght difference for the majority of cinematics. There is also numerous times where half of my head is cut or I see just the heads / top of heads of others I am speaking too.
On several occasions when speakign to those much shorter (drawves in particular) Its Like I'm looking stright dwon on them as they are lucky if they come up to my waist in heigt, or when the camera switches its as if they are looking stright up at me and see nothing but my head and sky.

Its not a big deal and leads to some funny situations, but wouldbe nice if the camera zoomed out a little bit to fit everyone in the screen properly, or if NPCs didnt basically stand on your toes when they speak to you resulting in very low or very high camera angles.

I am planning on playing as a dwarf for my next playthough just to see the opposite effect :D

I've played both a qunari and dwarf so far.  I had the same problems with qunari having the framing of the shot cut off my head in a few scenes.  It wasn't terrible but it was noticeable and little disappointing.

I've gotten my dwarf up to the Hinterlands and I haven't seen anything like that yet.  To be honest, as much as I like the qunari and will definitely roll one in every game where it's an option, I'm still a die-hard dwarf fan.  I'm loving my dwarf and haven't had any issues with cinematics yet.  It will be interesting to see what happens in the romance scenes, though.  I'm going to #ridethebull, so if there was ever a time for animations to be wonky, it would be there.

The worst is female Qunari. Everyone makes direct eye contact with and speaks to your breasts.

With my dwarf female I had few hillarious hand bugs in some of the conversations.

As a girl in life............Hmm..sounds about right. /shot

I have a character for all three non-human races. The qunari feel tall, and the whole world...you just feel taller. The dwarves are short and the world feels like you're short when you play them. As for romance scenes? It'll be interesting...

With my elf, he seems to get lifted up during kiss scenes...not sure if that's intentional. During the love scene, though, (and this is with Dorian as the love interest), my elf was raised up so it looked like he was making out with Dorian's hair while Dorian was kissing his chest? It was weird...and I'm not sure if its intentional or poorly handled by the BW team. I'm actually curious to hear how it'll be handled with dwarves or qunari, since the game seems to have trouble with the mild height difference between an elf and human.

I'm scratching 60 hours with my dwarf inquisitor. He very infrequently seems to pack on a couple of feet for some scenes, but that doesn't happen too often. I pretty much love it.

I think I could probably fit 2 or 3 of Cassandra's heads into my own though.

I did not meen it as an alternative mearly an add on to what you your self had stated sorry for the mixup on my part. It would have been amazing to have had both but I geuss that is asking a little to much what with eight romances available already "sigh" but we can still dream.

Hee hee...no worries. You didn't have to apologize. I think the dwarf pc needed some open dwarf lovins, and Harding and Verric would have been prime options. Really, got a bit of a girl crush on Harding. She is awesome and what convinced me that I can make a lovely dwarfette as well. :)

The only thing I can't stand about my dwarf is her rediculous boobs in her casual outfit. They just don't look right on her frame, I'd prefer them much smaller.  Too bad we don't get to adjust that aspect.

All I can say is this...horses are way too big. If they didn't adjust that, I doubt they adjusted your height magically for anything else. I can't say I've seen my dwarf magically at eye level with others at all.

Just started as a female dwarf, but already, some of the dramatic shots have been from behind and below you, which means that what might be okay for humans, cuts half of the dwarf's body from view. And any conversation that focuses on another character does indeed have you standing so you see the upper 90% of your face.

It's a bother.

Very much this! They just look weird.

Apparently dwarven crafting skills don't extend to underwear.

Okay, I may change away from dwarf.

This is how Bioware has them shaking hands in an intended-to-be-impressive scene?

Also, since you're staring up at everything, enjoy your head clipping into your weapon handle.

Really? I felt like everyone made good eye contact for the most part on my male Adaar. There were a few awkward times with Cassandra, I'll admit--that window frame in the War Room they're both trying to casually lean on is only so big after all--but I was really quite impressed that everyone seemed to be looking in more or less the right place.

I'm just barely to the point that they'll let my female Cadash leave Haven (with a chaperone~! Joy of joys! ;) ) but I have already noticed that her height seems to wildly fluctuate like she's jumping on an applebox just out of the frame or Cassandra is really working her thighs doing slow-motion squats to subtly close the distance between them without appearing to move. Though it could be tricky camera angles catching me off-guard, I suppose.

And for Blue_Shayde's concerns regarding Adaar/Dorian: Beyond the fact that a couple kisses had the Inquisitor standing between the camera and Dorian (and pretty much completely blocking the view), it wasn't poorly lined up otherwise. No awkward air/hand kissing or anything like that.

Edit: BunbunKitten...the look on your Quizzie's face in that pic...cracking me up. xD

Sure, there are a few scenes that are "off" for not-humans because it's like humans are the default template and they don't adjust the camera otherwise. This tends to happen in not-terribly-important scenes so it's not a problem to look past this. Dwarves will always look up to talk to people, but it's actually better than DAO because they don't always have a crick in their necks. The closer you stand to a person, the more your head will tilt back. A lot of the companion conversations happens at a comfortable distance where the dwarf head is slightly raised, but not much. I was impressed with the ballroom dancing, to be honest. The dwarves pulled that off beautifully. The weird clippings and random growth spurts aren't exclusive to the dwarves though -- you will find that qunaris have their own issues as well. In a game that goes over 60+ hours, a handful of weird cutscenes aren't really a dealbreaker.

My only issue with Dwarves are the Armor, expect to be generic a lot and many many pieces are excluded from you..

It does make you the perfect height for some activities with LIs though :P

As a female who usually is taller than most of the people around her, let me tell you: This really happens a lot.

I even had guys talking to me in plural.

So the femQunari-camera is real-life to me, which is why I better stick with playing dwarfs and 'normal-sized' humans ;)

Oh, and I'm before Mythal's temple with my dwarf and I once had a cutscene camera problem with only showing half of the head. The rest was fine. And Dagna in eye-sight is just cute ;)

Romance scenes are awkward with dwarves. Walking cycle is "off." Short little legs get a strange gliding or skating effect to their walk cycles. Also, female dwarves have traffic cone breasts under their pajamas. It's rather off-putting.
