The Mage Trevelyan caused a bit of scandal though, and probably damaged chantry relations. Its always a big scandal when nobles have mage children.
Never said.
You're right it's never said, but you can role play it that way.Never said.
Yeah, Tywin would be a Teryn or a Duke if shifted to Thedas. The Lannisters are more like the Couslands in terms of the power wielded within their respective kingdom. The Trevelyans are bit farther down the social ladder. In terms of status they are more like House Mormont or House Dayne.

Unlikely though. When you question Josephine why Orlais is more concerned about Trevelyan being a Marcher than a mage she says that mage nobles aren't an uncommon sight. Normally mage nobles (depending on behavior) enjoy privileges that mages from commoner stock don't.

Sure you can. That's not what Lulu said however, and it's not really how Ostwick roles anyway.
Josephine calls one of Trevelyan's parents Bann.
Yeah because he is Bann of Ostwick. My question is, what bannorn do they rule?

It could be like the City Elf boon where they can be Bann of the Alienage, the Trevelyans could have a section of the city that's under their authority or a large estate either inside the city or nearby.
Why should they? They like to do their own stuff. It's the states in America, Their united but each govern a bit differently from each other
They are more of a confederacy than the United States.
Never said.
Doesn't need to be said, there are many instances of it within noble families in Thedas specially the pious ones. Having a mage child is a scandal. Unless the chantry in Ostwick is more open-minded which I doubt.

The city-state of Ostwick likely controls much of the surrounding countryside as well. I would imagine the Bann of Ostwick has holdings outside the city walls.

I wonder now if house Trevelyan is not the most ilustrous familly in that city if you chose the origin for your Inquisitor to be part of the house. I mean that just give power and influence as the father of the most powerful person in Southern Thedas.
Ostwick is ruled by a Teyrn, but one of your parents is a Bann. There isn't any dialogue indicating the Teyrn is from another branch of your family, so it does seem as if the Trevelyans aren't the most powerful noble house of Ostwick. They seem to be distinguished (foreign nobles have heard of them and you have marriage connections to nobility in Nevarra and Tevinter), but aren't necessarily the most distinguished house of the city.

Actually, yeah it does. Because it's not treated anywhere near as big a deal as you are. And considering that is said, I'm guessing you didn't actually play human.
It's not a scandal-scandal unless most (or majority) of the children are mages, like it was with Revka. And I guess it depends how parents react to that and how they act. I doubt they'll be stripped off their ranks and such, after all, it's not like they send the Quizzy to Tevinter or something like that. He's in the Circle, where he "belongs" and in a rather sedate one to boot.

I played a human mage and didn't hear about scandal. But in DA lore there are a lot of scandals of pious families having mage children.
The Amell family scandal (having mage child) caused them to be unable to become viscounts, however they didn't lose their nobility. The scandal was so great they sent their son/daughter to Ferelden circle to be away from Kirkwall.
There was a scandal because one of their members only had mage children. That's not normal.
And if you played human mage, you'd know that Ostwick is lax. That's kind of the point.
