Is it better for a follower's staff to have a higher DPS rating or higher magic?

 

For example which of these is better?

T2 Masterwork Witch Staff - 94dps +24 magic

or

T3 Masterwork Archon Staff - 115dps +11 magic

 

Does it depend on the build of mage, or is one always better?

Depends a little on the other stats. You're best off ignoring the dps number, at least when comparing weapons that attack at the same speed, because it includes situational runes (like cleansing) and doesn't include anything else, like attack or crit chance and damage.

 

But all that said, 13 magic translates to just 6.5% attack (I think), so other things being equal, that t3 staff should do more damage overall.
