I am loving Inquisition, but I have to say that much like DA:2 there is one character companion that I just want to punch in the face whenever I talk to them or they open their mouth;...and that would be Vivienne.

Yeah, yeah put down the torches and pitchforks. She's such a primadona and a spoiled, mean spirited jerk that she reminds me of Carver and I LOATHED him. Backhanded insults, looking down her nose at everyone...I just with there was an option to slap her sometimes lol.

So I thought I'd ask the question: Is there a character companion that you just want to punch sometimes?  (Keep in mind, Vivienne is classified as character I love to hate for me) All the characters are awesome in their own way; but sometimes there's that one that just rubs you the wrong way. I'm curious to see what other people think. :) Sometimes it's fun to just vent about it.

What say you?

I would never say Vivienne is like Carver.  Carver died most of the runs I did because I'd rather have Bethany than him.  Varric/Cassandra/Vivienne has been the best banter so far.

If there's a character I can't stand in DA:I, it's Sera.  I've come close a few times of telling her to hit the road and don't look back.

Leliana is the person I would punch.

Her unhealthy obsession with the maker, unwillingness to hear reason and disregard for lives have put me off her. This even after I've been advising her with diplomatic options at every available juncture.

Stubborn old woman doesn't listen to advise or orders and needs to be hit in that face. Big time. I'd send her to detention barracks for disobeying my orders.

Every other character or companion I can accept though Blackwall gets on my nerves at times.

Though Blackwall makes me want to punch him sometimes. That guy belittles his life and self worth to the extent that he needs to get knocked out.

If you want to make amends, then instead of giving up your life take some damn action that can actually produce changes not just another number on the death roll. Death doesn't solve anything and is so cowardly.

It's still Sebastian, even though he didn't physically appear in the game. Thank God for Aveline for kicking his ass back out of Kirkwall.

I don't really want to punch any of them, but a few could use a light slap.

I went into Inquisition certain that I would HATE Solas and Cole, but I ended up enjoying all the companions actually. I wouldn't mind punching Fiona again though.

Vivienne, spoiled? Vivienne... compared to Carver? That's a stretch, my dear. Everything Vivienne has is because she worked for it and made the right choices, despite being born a mage. I also find back-handed insults more amusing than upfront insults, it takes actual intelligence to destroy someone with clever words rather than simply hitting them like a common thug... darling. I found her surprisingly easy to get along with myself, even though I was expecting her to be as prickly as DAO Morrigan.

(This is a "I love to hate" thread, right?)

As for me... Fiona. What a screw up. I know she has a very detailed history, but in Asunder and DAI... god, she was so reckless.

"The Divine is trying to improve our lives? **** the Divine. Lets split off and start a war." and "Oh look, Ferelden offered us sanctuary. Lets show our gratitude by allying with a Tevinter Magister, and forcing the inhabitants of Redcliffe to flee, including the Arl. Yeah, then lets attack the Inquisition because why not."

...Seriously, she attacks you in Haven. Is every mage mind-controlled or something, or just incredibly reckless? I refuse to believe all those mages lost common sense... At least the Templars were subtly corrupter, I don't get why the mages all went bad. Anyway, when she appeared in Haven and after I stood in paused shock for a minute, I focused her. Hard.

There was a conversation with Sera after a certain point in the Solas romance that if "punch in face" was an option I may have taken it.

You can punch Solas if your approval is low 2:25

I got this scene today and it was so rewarding. I romanced him last play through but god this one he just was attacking my Quizzy from the start and it felt so good to get payback.

I didn't want to punch Vivienne but only because I had her pegged from her intro scene. When she freezes that guy at court, the things she's willing to do purely based on your reaction, yeah, she's stuck up and a bully and views others as toys for her amusement. So I decided to never use her. Thus she never reached punchworthy with me.

Its like that with any other character I didn't like. I've played enough Bioware games by now to know what kind of nonsense I will and will not put up with. So I never got to know Vivienne or Sera (though for very different reasons) and I made very little use of Dorian (though now I'm thinking I should have given him a little more time, his bluster is kind of funny.)

My goodness! Were you playing a pro-Chantry sorta character or was Solas just a dick for no reason? LOL

Yep. Lucky I didn't throw her out of the Inquisition right then and there.

I think my Lavellan was too depressed at that point. She was just like... "Yep. You're right." :crying:

Wow, I was not expecting that. He's been so nice to me. But I'm an elvish mage who sided with the mages and has indulged his exposition a lot. But based on that scene I get how punching him would be satisfying. Still doesn't compare to punching a certain reporter . . .

I'm playing a character with a bit of a similar mindset to Vivienne - a mage who believes that mages need to be kept in check (partially b/c I imported a world state in which everything bad that mages could do happened and I wanted that to influence my character) - not as harshly as they are now but they need to be protected. He disliked me at first b/c of that, which opens up some "investigate"-style options to debate with him about things. Here Lies the Abyss spoiler:

In my past playthroughs he was so nice to my Inquisitors and so how he treated her this play through really surprised me. He's so rude, from the first time I talked to him once we got to Skyhold. I was even doing investigate options, gaining approval, but he doesn't just disagree with my Inquisitor, he insults her all the time.

Ahh, I see! That definitely sounds like it would do it.

Is it wrong that Solas being grumpy and bitchy and impossible to please just makes me like him more? I need to evaluate my life choices.

I think it's a testament to the writing that I could really like him one play through and not another. He essentially does the same thing to Vivienne and my last Inquisitor was all for it haha.

Oh, I agree, and I love it when this happens. The same thing happened to me with Alistair- I had one character who agreed with him about Duncan, Loghain, etc. and we got along famously... but the minute you roll a more ambiguous character who doesn't think the Grey Wardens **** sparkles then... lmao watch out.

It's good writing all around, really.

I'm in agreement with you, OP. Vivienne grates on my nerves. My Inquisitor isn't the punching people in the face sort of person, but if she was, and if there was an option, you can bet she'd mar that hateful, arrogant countenance. XD

I actually found that as I played different kinds of characters my own opinions of characters have changed. My first inquisitor was an elf mage and got along with Solas amazingly, she could blink and would get "Solas approves". I found him to be a super interesting character who I'd stop by to chat to all the time. I stopped talking to Vivienne altogether, on the other hand, because I was very pro mage freedom, and she hated me. I couldn't stand her at all.

I'm about to finish a playthrough as a slightly mage-fearing, Andrastian human, who likes being nobility. Her and Vivienne became fast friends, and for once when Vivienne calls me dear or darling I actually felt like she meant it. I began to love her as a character, having someone like that on your good side is always a good thing. She was funny and extremely clever. As for Solas, he hated my character, and said some very rude things to her, and I myself have found me liking him less. He is just as preachy as Vivienne, I think, but in a much less humorous way.

But so far, no one's made me want to punch them. I'd very much like a 'return to Kirkwall and kick Carver' DLC though.

That scene with hitting Solas is awesome. Sad and heartwrentching, but so cool, that the option is there based on decisions. I love it!

As for punching? There is one scenario where I want to punch Sera. On her personal quest, there is an option to let her kill the person who lured her into a trap. I said: ok, go and kill that man, for he wanted to kill you. And she literally beats him to death. That was over my Inquisitor's endurance line. (Probably the fact my inquisitor gave permit to the murder made it even more difficult to handle. OOCly I say the scene all in all was well written, but difficult to digest.)

I found the look on the inquisitors face when she starts hilarious. It was a "I Immediately regret this decision" face.

1. Blackwall 2. (and to a lesser degree) Fiona. So far anyway, not done the story. When I say that, it's not a negative. Both are interesting characters. Still, If I could have executed Blackwall, I probably would have been tempted.
