I'm concerned about the effectiveness of my 2-hander in battlefield, specifically against major bosses. I had finished the Envy boss fight last night (which took me many attempts but was wonderfully satisfying after defeating him) and my 2hander was just holding position in the corner of the battlefield and was only used when the Templar adds spawned. I'm looking for general, simple tips and what specialization I should take up. I was thinking of taking up the Templar for burst damage and narrative purposes but I'm thinking of taking up Reaver instead to take up full advantage of my 2handers DPS.
Two-handers who have completed the game on Nightmare; any tips?

Pick up Turn the Blade from the Shield tree. Keep up with crafting with the best armor you can when upgrades show up. Don't use Mighty Blow anywhere near your party if FF is on. Reaver is amazing for the passives and Dragon Rage. If your equipment isn't amazing, use barrier to power through stuff.
