Throughout the DA games, I have never met a companion I loathe as much as Vivienne.  Every time she speaks, it’s like nails on a chalk board. Why? She has the attitude of believing she is the best mage and knows exactly what is best for mages.  But it’s not just that, it’s the fact that Vivienne believes everything she says is right and what you say is wrong. Hell, the way she treats poor Cole sickens me.

The only time I had Vivienne in my party was taking her to the ball. Other than that I leave her behind. Talking to her feels like torture. I just wish there was an option to shove her off a cliff. At least my headache would go away.

In real life I have no tolerance for people who walk around like their crap does not stink and Vivienne is a constant reminder of that no tolerance in game.

When my first play though ended and I got Vivienne as Divine I was livid not to mention it did not make any sense for her to be Divine at all.

I am making sure on my second play through that she does not become Divine.

Ok, (breaths) how do you feel about Vivienne?

Initially I liked her, but then I began encountering our differences of opinions. She started ruffling my feathers when she constantly spoke down to me as though I was naive... I mean sure, my non-mage Inquisitor wasn't exactly clued in to everything surrounding circles, but Viv could've delivered better. Though she isn't my least favorite, that honor falls to Sera.

Overall, her writers and voice actress did an excellent job portraying just the kind of personality she has. I don't like her personality but I can appreciate what they did with her.

Yeah, so far she's a piece of work.  I'm in my first playthrough as a female Dalish Mage.  I spoke to her in the courtyard shortly after being appointed Inquisitor and she deigned to regale me with some unsolicited advice about how to run the show.  I told her to mind her own business and we have not been BFFs ever since.  When she asked me to undertake her little wyvern-slaying quest, I declined.  "Busy, busy, Vivienne," I told her.  "Inquisition to run, world to save, you know how it is.  No, wait, you don't.  Choke your own lizard."  "I won't forget this, my dear," she replied, her malice for once as plain as her condescension.  Sera's as opinionated as Vivienne, sure, but Sera's merely annoying.  Vivienne is outright risible.  Maybe a horn-dog human male Warrior will find her more useful on my next playthrough.  That approach worked for my Cousland Warden.

I was set on disliking her before I met her because I'm in favor of mage freedom, but she's intelligent, smart, witty, and fairly reaasonable. Also, her personal quest shows her in a different light if you get around to it (just be patient for the cutscenes related to what happens after you do the major personal quest).

My original playthrough (dalish mage) we didn't get along at all.

My current playthrough (extremely devout andrastian) we're getting along well. She'll probably end up a permanent staple in my party (cos you know, apostates and tevinter...maker save us)

I think if you don't agree with her views, she's very annoying and condescending. But if you do, she's fun to have around.

I admit her views on how mages should be dealt isn't without valid points. She does look down on folks but she isn't without her merits. And after retrieving the wyvern heart I could never hate her. She is Orlesian and a player of the Game. Considering where she hails from and how she possibly has been raised.

She's funny and yes witty. Viv adds her own charms to those who can seem rather dark at times. Though Sera tries that as well.

I've come full circle on Vivienne.

Prior to release I was sure I was going to hate her. I found her interesting, yes, but detestable. When the game first released and I got the chance to talk to her... well, she didn't exactly reach the top of my favorites list but I had to admit that I liked her; she was charming and I found her fresh insights into another side of Circle life interesting.

Then I got a good listen to her party banter. Specifically her banter with Blackwall. Listening to all of that vitriol was enough to turn me against her completely. I do still appreciate the new view point she brings to the game, but on a personal level she rivals Aveline for the companion I dislike the most.

I love her. So comfortable in her own colossal bitchiness. You get to ****** me off if you're that good at doing it.

I love her, she means the world to me.  She is the only one serious with this mage issue.

Magic must serve man, not rule over them. Magic is dangerous. Throughtout the series, we see mages killing people (civilians) for no reason.

If all you want to do is separate yourself, create a College of Enchanters to later summon demons and kill Leliana as the Divine, I will not allow that. Over my dead body will I let these rebel mages be free.

Not me.  I adore this woman.

Although, it will be interesting to see if I like her as much with my second character.  My first one agreed with almost everything she had to say about everything.

She's the most polarizing character along with Sera. People either seem to really like her or really hate her. Often people who like Vivienne hate Sera and vice versa., I like Sera and dislike Vivienne. Find her too much like Wynne in Origins. Preachy and difficult then very stroppy when she doesn't get everything her own way. Though Wynne often tries to actually kill you if you refuse to do things her way.

The irony is that while Blackwall is my LI, I actually found his sparring with Vivienne to be entertaining. My opinion is that my companions are individuals and they're not all going to like each other due to their disparate personalities. The whole honey-laced-with-venom thing is only a part of who she is (and as someone who has now participated in the Game in the Winter Palace, I can see why you need to be sharp-tongued and quick-witted, etc.). I think the majority of the companions have more depth and complexity than you see on the surface.

Pretty sure you can refuse her help for future playthroughs.

She's a bit of a *****, and I love her for it, personally. Tough, smart, independent lady who's extremely opinionated. Honestly reminded me of Chantry-ized Morrigan a bit.

I don't like her. She's all for living in her palace and fancy settings while other mages live in shackles. She will NOT become divine in my game. Nothing I do makes her happy and that's fine by me. I enjoyed running around with her and the rest of the team in Storm Coast watching her bald head get wet.  :P (of course we are all getting wet but the rest of us dress more appropriately for being covered in mud and blood). I do think her banter is funny but it's all insults and digs at the expense of others. Also, when I'm at the edge of the ocean, she goes and stands as deep in the water as she can....I guess she's trying to get away from my PC...we do not like each other.  :)

Ironically enough, back in Origins I rather enjoyed the back and forth between Alistair and Morrigan, and found it quite amusing.

Vivienne's mockery of Blackwall crossed the line from amusing to mean-spirited, in my opinion. The fact that it was interlaced with insulting the Grey Wardens as an organization - while the Grey Wardens are perhaps my favorite part of DA as a setting - didn't help her cause.

I thought she wasn't all that interesting to be honest?

She's alright?

Her personal quest is fine and shows something a bit more human about her but for somebody who pushed things to get the First Enchanter Title and worked in the court...she's rather passive at Skyhold.

She doesn't really try to get things her way , and she was rather pathetic when ...

Spoiler

I took lots of decision she was against and she didn't make a fuss about it...I'm not sure why she's named "Madame de Fer".

I like the Grey Wardens as well, but I don't demand that everyone worship them - and if you haven't finished the game yet, all I'm going to say is that I understand why some people mignt consider them a danger and haven't exactly taken a shine to the Wardens despite their years of service. And this is coming from someone who thinks that despite any, ah, missteps the Wardens made, they're heroes at the end of the day.

I've finished the game. What the Wardens do isn't the cause Vivienne's opinion on them, just one more thing she uses to rub salt in Blackwall's wounds.

And you're right, not everyone has to like the same things I like. And I don't have to like someone who spends a good bit of her time telling me why the things I like most about the world suck.
