depends on your opinion of positive is. Leliana is the most progress if she becomes the divine but might do so in a rather dark way.

for real! I'm not entirely sure what happens if you make other choices with her or what choices I made that affected it, but, she got dark and twisty after the meeting at the Chantry (friendship quest). I was like: "I think I just broke Liliana..."

Yea...originally I wanted leliana to be the divine. then after that quest I was like, "****, I just made a lunatic be in charge of the chantry. We're all gonna die."

there was one divine who liked immolating mages and non-believers so this is pretty lax lolYea...originally I wanted leliana to be the divine. then after that quest I was like, "****, I just made a lunatic be in charge of the chantry. We're all gonna die."

Uh, I definitely fixed her. FYI, being merciful helps...for real! I'm not entirely sure what happens if you make other choices with her or what choices I made that affected it, but, she got dark and twisty after the meeting at the Chantry (friendship quest). I was like: "I think I just broke Liliana..."
EDIT: Howeverr, I had already already supported Cassandra's bid to become the Divine, so I couldn't support Leliana at that point - no idea if it would have affected how Leliana operates as Divine. But at least you can "fix" her, heh.

I don't think there's the best ending really. But I was surprised how Leliana changed through all this.

My Leliana ended up being nearly the same as she was at the end of Origins, albeit more worldly. But same optimism, light attitude, and progressive goals. Did you do the quest where you go to the Chantry with her and meet Natalie? I chose the mercy option there, I assume you chose the opposite.

it also depends on if you let her kill the traitor the second time you talk to her apparently.

Vivienne as Divine, Templar reinstated as an Order, Gaspard on throne with Celene and Briala dead, Wardens exiled with Hawke left in the Fade, let Morrigan drink the Well of Sorrows.

You can make Leliana unhardened and she have a more peaceful ending while still being just as progressive. Which makes Leliana the best choice in my eyes (Viva la free mages)

I'm confused, I told her to spare Natalie and yet she disregarded that. Maybe I made a wrong choice earlier on?

Yeah, you've got tell Leliana to not kill that guy back in your conversation with her in Haven. You must consistently remind her to be merciful.

Aww nugs. xD I assumed that she was professional enough to judge that herself. For the next time!

Yeah, its rather unfair that they put in a choice that has such a large effect at the start of the game. Who'd have guess that one conversation would have a major impact?

We have yet to see the full consequences of some actions, but according to the epilogue slides....

Haha- too funny. After that scene I definitely had an "uh-oh wtf did I do?" Moment as well.

that was pretty much my take on it! I was like: who the hell am I to get in the way of a professional that has been doing this her entire life?!

The opposite isn't great in my opinion. If she isn't hardened but becomes divine she still tries to push the same reforms but since she isn't ruthlessly silencing people who rise up against her the chantry kinda falls apart into internal war.

I think it has more to do with Marjolene (SP) then what you say to her. As Bioware has definitive "Hardened" options in their stories.
Best ending, though? Throw the Inquisition into a dumpster and run off to Tevinter with Dorian. Everybody is happy now.

Honestly, I think this is daft. She was hardened, or not, during her personal mission in DA:O, depending on whether you killed Marjolaine. I don't see why the Inquisitor recommending a course of action - or even staying out of the decision, as mine did - should have such a big effect. Surely her years of being un/hardened post-DA:O can't be overturned by this one scene with a person she doesn't even know that well yet?

i don't know if this is a bug but on my disk it seems it's got nothing to do with her personal quest, the flag seems to go aaaaaalllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the way back to an innocent conversation regarding whether her men are expendable.
so far i've tested telling her to kill the traitors and told her the men are not expendable, had her kill natalie and still got the nice ending where she doesn't do anything about opposition to her.
told her specifically not to kill the traitor re-enforced no killing, told her "they're soldiers" (too which she goes all ominous) let natalie go and got the slide which should have the empire theme playing in the background.
