$300? Not at all.

That's actually a very good deal considering its performance.

I own an Xbox One and its fantastic, diggin the games I have for it, and I've got many friends on it as well.

My stepbrothers have PS4s and they dig it from what I hear of their experiences. So basically, either is a winner.

Find out where your friends are leaning, what franchises you want to play, what controller feels better in your hands, etc etc

For me it'll be a PS4 someday, but at the moment there is no need for one as far as I'm concerned. I'll wait for at least the second generation, and, well, some games that interest me.

The X1 or PS4? Well that depends on other factors, if i was in your place I'd look at games like Rime and what Soe is making for the PS4 and so forth then decide, i choose PS4 because there line looks really good.

Xbox. If nothing but for the Halo campaigns. Halo 5 Guardians next year seems to have be going places :P

Also, I prefer the controller and the layout.

Get anyone who passed on Xbox One for PS4 is going to get burned when Sony goes bankrupt and PS4/PSN ends up unsupported abandonware.

PC Gaming is not that expensive. As long as you aren't an enthusiast or don't require cutting edge graphics for the entire life of the PC, you'll only need a new one every 3-5 years. The money you spend building/upgrading your rig will be returned to your pocket due to Steam Sales, where a bit of patience will ensure that you'll never buy a game for more than half price.

But it seems you are really looking forward to the PS4 exclusives, so go for that.

I'm a PC Gamer, so the wars of you console peasants don't really bother me *monocle*. But is there anything to back this assertion up? I was under the impression that PS4 has a lead on the Xbox One in sales and games at the moment.

not in germany, PS4 starts about 360€ here, the GTX970 between 300 and 400€.

and that makes other cards worse? especially the R9 290 has still a great performance for its price, better ratio than the 970 (at least in germany).

Well, it is a great value for $300 and I didn't say it made other cards (like your R9 290) worse.

I still maintain that I'll recommend a GTX 970 over a GTX 770 despite it costs nearly $100 more.

In hindsight, I think I might have gone with the Wii U at the time if I knew about all the great games coming out for it.

I'd say neither right now. This gen so far has been pretty underwhelming.

Captain Toad and the new Zelda title are coming out next year, as well as a new Yoshi and Kirby title. The system already has great games like Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World, Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, Wind Waker, Donkey Kong, ZombiU, and so on.

Well, I had actually saved up money for that. I mean for upgrading my PC. But twice the power was cut and once my PC mainboard got burned, which also burned my PC power and once my entire Ram. And I used all my savings just to repair them. By buying the same quality parts with HIGHER prices than I had bought before....PC parts have had an increase in their prices here. Like a part which used to cost 100 dollars now costs 200. see?

Lesson of today:

Don't buy crappy mainboards and powers.

Also buy a Voltage equalizer or was it called power saver?

Despite everything that people will tell you, as someone who has had to sell them for a living from the very get go, it is simply down to exclusives. The performance difference between them looks favourable to the PS4 on paper, but in reality it rarely makes a difference.

So some people have mentioned some exclusives, but it's down to you to see what franchise each console has. For example...

Xbox One:

  • Fable
  • Halo
  • Gears of War
  • Titanfall
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider (timed exclusive)
  • Sunset Overdrive
  • Forza
  • Dead Rising
  • Project Spark
  • Quantum Break
  • Plus, Microsoft has a good track record in getting deals with publishers that mean they get DLC first - for example, Xbox gets all DA:I DLC before other platforms.

PS4:

  • Unchartered
  • God of War
  • The Last of Us
  • Gran Turismo
  • Little Big Planet
  • The Order 1886
  • Killzone
  • Infamous
  • Drive Club

And many more for both. Just have a browse through what games are coming out exclusively, and what franchises are exclusive, and in reality that's all you'll need to decide. I own an Xbox One, and I chose it because I already had a 360 and wanted to keep my gamerscore/friends but most importantly because I personally find the franchises on Xbox are better. That said, the PS4 is a great system and has some strong names backing it - of particular jealously is Naughty Dog.
