Well ****, I was re-watching the ending scenes of Legacy. I may seem like I'm stating the obvious to some or it may sound like bull ****, but this just blew me away. When you kill Corypheus, pay great attention to the attitude of Larius/Janeka especially when they say their final line and walk away (also look at their facial expression along with the tone of music), it could easily be that as Archdemons transfer their essence to a Grey Warden (anyone who has the taint), this is what happens to Corypheus when you supposedly kill him. Although this would kill Larius/Janeka were it an actual Archdemon, the effect could be different since Corypheus isn't a tainted dragon.

Just scrolling through old threads and saw this.

YES I found something very odd in the way Janeka says "Thank you Hawke, I feel like...a whole new person." I knew something wasn't right, the tone, the look in the eye, yea I smelled somethin fishy too. Now we now :)

When you kill him his eyes glow and Janeka/Laraius move in pain, before you talk to them

Edit: I just found this  demon on youtube, watch carefully... https://www.youtube....h?v=y-eDLF6p44I

Yes, it looks like they planned on bringing back Cory since the times of Legacy.

That being said, when I killed Corypheus Carver and Anders were right next to him when he died, so there's really no logical reason for him to possess Larius instead of either of them. Still, at least this one was planned all along.

Maybe he was afraid from Hawke? Carver and Anders are preety close to Hake, but wait Carver no... Maybe he was afraid by the pepole who killed him?

Not sure about Carver, but I presume Justice would throw a tantrum had Anders been the one possessed by Corypheus.

Well, if he goes with Carver or Anders, then it's a lot harder to pull off that not possessed look. Of course, Corypheus may not know exactly how they're close companions, but Hawke's blood runs in Carver (I'm sure Corypheus mentions he can sense Hawke blood or some crap) and Anders is actively helping Hawke in the fight unlike lazy Larius. And the Justice thing, I guess, dude's head is already pretty crowded.

Just a single line like:
"Hey brother I'm... sure glad we can do brotherly things together"
"who are you and what have you done to Carver?"

It's also possible that Larius/Janeka is easier to possess since their taint has progressed farther in them than in Carver or Bethany.

Perhaps the blood of a Hawke keeps Carver/Bethany safe since it was Papa Hawke's blood that binded Cory.  While Anders may be protected because he has a spirit within him.  Three would be a crowd no?

After playing Inquisition, I have a lot of respect for Malcolm Hawke.

I believe he chose to possess Larius/Janeka because as others have pointed out their taint is much more advanced. At the same time Larius/Janeka are very incognito/nobodies in comparison to Hawke and Co.

Ayy good shot though, unfortunately we do discover from DAI that the method of killing him is irrelevant. Cory got incinerated by a ancient Elven magic barrier (was pretty cool) and that didn't help...
