I completed each of the quests "Virmire: Assisting The Team".  Each quest has check mark and it says complete but I cannot find Commander Rentola aboard the Normandy anywhere.  Did he disembark?

I think there are 4 ways to do Virmire:

Send Kaiden to the other tower, save Kaiden
Send Ashley to the other tower, save Kaiden
Send Kaiden to the other tower, save Ashley
Send Ashley to the other tower, save Ashley

If you didn't go to the other tower, then Rentola is assumed dead. Else he's in the cargo bay.

Are you sure you did EVERYTHING you could to assist the STG assault?



Destroy communications

Destroy satellite uplink

Destroy refueling drones

Disable alarms. You could also create false alarms to reduce the number of enemies you had to fight, but it would increase the enemy opposition to the STG teams.



If you didn't do all four of those things, Rentola probably will have gotten killed.

Actually It works this way, During the assault of the Base you can save some of Rentoula's team by slowing down the Geth. You have 4 things you can do. If these are done, Some of Rentoula's team survives even if you don't go to save your Squaddie, who's with the group.

There was so much happening but I check and each of the 4 were items checked off. Also, I got the completed check-off. Would the items still be checked off if it was never completed?

I'm pretty sure Rentola survives to tell you Kirrahe died if you didn't do everything. I go to the cargo bay immediately after the briefing room scene and that has always worked. As soon as you go to the Citadel they will be gone.

In all my games both, Rentola and Kirrahe were always present in the cargo-bay after the fight.

Before the "endfight" I did all sub-misions as described by mewarmo990.

I always had Ashley to arm the bomb, always Kaidan to go to the tower. I never saved Kaidan.

I loaded a previous save right before the Saren boss fight (I saved Kaiden), did the crew debrief and went to the cargo hold and Commander Rentola and crew were aboard. 

The journal takes awhile to update which confuses your progress.
