On ps4 here with the 40 save limit, god only knows the amount of saves i have had to delete, the way i play my games i can only afford to have 2 saves per character which i really detest since i like having a fresh save at every 10 hour mark, or rather i did, i've actually lost alot of hours of game play aswell due to me deleting saves that are on the middle of the list in the save game category an they actually ended up being the newest save in the profile, i was presumptuous in thinking the top save in the profile was the newest save lol an basically when it said i had reach my limit went through an deleted a load of saves in the middle of lists
Limits on PC save games. Really?

I wonder if the 250 saves limit is because of 100mb size limit on the cloud...

I recently ran into a limit on my number of saved games. It was an unpleasant surprise. I like having saves before companion conversation cutscenes and big plot cutscenes, so across 6 characters that's a lot of saves.

wtf thx for post, I am not even in middle of game and i have about 70+ + autosaves with my first character. I mainly use saves because decisions so I dont have to create 30 characters
but just 4 or 5 for example. I do this in every RPG

I like playing with several different characters, mixing and matching world states, male/female, different races, different skill sets. Even with just 10 iterations, that allows only 25 saves per character. I have a terabyte of storage on my computer and I give a rats ass about "the cloud". If I store my saved games on my computer, why should I be limited. What a stupid idea... 250 saves. Now that I finally have a computer and video card where I can play the game without crashing, I run into this. Is BioWare deliberately trying to wreck their reputation?

Eek. While I doubt I'd ever need 250 saves for one character, I'm a little concerned that it's between all characters. ![]()
Particularly if they pull that lameness they did on Origins, where importing your Warden to some of the DLC made it seem like you suddenly had four people with the same name (this being problematic as on the xbox 360 you only had 10 character slots...)
I understand that it's totally an option to backup my saves and move them, but it seems like such a silly limitation to have imposed on me when I have a terabyte hard drive....does it somehow affect the stability of the game to have that many saves? Because otherwise I really can't think of a reason for why they would do such a thing...

Unless you either find a way to read an infinite number of files in a fixed amount of time or are willing to sacrifice convenience, limiting save slots is the only option (maybe 50 is a bit overly conservative, but that's not the point)That's not actually correct - you see, the game has to read all files (at least parts of them) to be able to display your characters and saves (each one showing playtime and area - where do you think that information is stored?), so this limit exists to keep loading time reasonable.
If you bypass the limit, bad things will happen - e.g. I did that for ME2, and LO and behold, trying to read 10000 save files left the game completely unresponsive (I.e. Seemingly crashed) for 15min while it was compiling that list of characters.
Obviously, moving save files to a different folder fixes this as the game no longer has to scan the 9750 files in the other folder.

Actually, yes. Mark already confirmed the primary issue was enumerating the list for the UI, and they hope to increase the limit in the future.Respectfully... no.

Alex said it was impossible due to disk reads and processing times exceeding specifications. Which is [1] nonsense.
You now say it's due to the UI being unable to handle large lists. Which means it was badly specified.
Either way, it's a blunder and not some limitation imposed by Cthulhu.

[1] maybe "should be" is a safer phrasing in BW's case.

It is something that Bioware thought that they were smart to limit loading time but it turns out to be a silly decision for a game that is based heavily on decisions and gamers would wanna play the game more than once.

I know this is an old topic, but the question is completely revelant still. Will PC ever lose the 250 save cap?
I've read some of the older posts here regarding how debilitating the game gets with too many save files and, while I respect the information, I think it's a heeping pile of baloney.
DA:O, DA:O-Awakenings, DA2. All had no save limit for PC; all still work to this day. It isn't asking much that DAI have the same allowance; not even beginning to go into the no-naming-saves issue.
