Made a rogue archer at the start and curious how I should build her up for the challenge ahead.

Poison weapon (with all related passives) and Longshot are the way to go. Also make sure to grab Evade.

 

Tempest is the best specialization. Flask of Fire is downright broken (in the OP sense) right now, and once it's fixed it will remain quite godly. Alternatively, Assassin is also fairly decent, just not broken.

Here's the build I'm currently running on nightmare:

 

 

For archers there isn't going to be that much variability in your non-specialization skills, because most of them are designed for melee rogues.

 

For specialization, I think all 3 specs are viable for archers, they just play differently. I'm currently playing Tempest myself because I was originally melee and just recently switched to ranged. However, it still works perfectly fine for archery.

Thanks. Usually I'm a Mage but just find them boring in this one. So far nightmare hasn't been too bad with my rogue.

There is that crafting mat that allows you to do Hidden Blades 10% chance each strike. If you stick that on your dual daggers, since you have a ridiculously high attack rate, it will proc pretty reliably on bosses, especially dragons.
