Mostly comes down to trial and error, as stated before it's likely they use some form of standard but will still deviate from it quite some depending on what they need for any particular armor or outfit. Comes with the territory of a crafting system I reckon. I'll be lighting up tintmap function in one or two specific situations in the tutorial to show how they work in particular, from there it's up to people to take that example and apply the method to anything they want to work on specifically. Can't make it easier then that I'm afraid.

 

There's plenty in thread here that grasp the concept fine, ELE, Eham, FFZero specifically. Coming from a graphics background, not a coding one, I'm hoping I can explain in a way others will be able to follow the base concept and go from there. Not that there's anything wrong with a coding background, it's just for people coming fresh into the modding scene, it's not likely to make much sense rather than be an overwhelming amount of information they can't quite place. Having messed with textures for a few years, i feel there's nice synergy between the texture artists/coders here but I can see how it can get confusing really fast for others fresh into it.

Its controlled by the shader used by the object. We have a bit of influence over it via the shader parameters, but the real dirty work happens inside the shader, which is compiled for each object based on certain parameters

Does anyone know why half of my modded textures come up "technicolor" in game ? I still haven't been able to figure out what am i doing wrong -.-

Would someone mind explaining a bit on how cheat engine works? There is such a barrage of info, mostly links to download, that I'm rather lost.

 

Is it like texmod, where it has to run while the game runs? Or is it more like the me3 explorer, where you run it for what you need and your done?

 

I'm still debating on even trying to use it or not. It seems a bit daunting for me

 

PorcelynDoll made a great Tumblr post, after she and I chatted a bit on Mumble so I could share with her what I had figured out. She pulled a bunch of info from the huge CE thread, took a bit from an email I sent her on it, and modified both with what worked for her in her own experiments to make this.

Item, Shop, and Party Editor changes - if done right - stick after saving, and without having to run CE all the time. Same with changing schematics (shop item editor.)

 

The stuff further down - like Infinite Potions, Infinite Shop Inventory, Free Crafting, Skyhold Armor toggle, walk toggle, you need CE running for them to work.

 

This is wrong - you MUST change like for like. Armor to armor, weapon to weapon. They show up in different tabs, and if you try to change one to another, the game will crash. Also, you much change crafting material type to the same type (metal to metal, cloth to cloth.) And for Fade Touched items you have to change another Fade Touched Item. Not sure if it has to be Fade Touched Cloth to FT Cloth or not, but if you try FT Metal to FT Cloth, save first and be prepared for a crash just in case.

IT'S DONE. I'm done. Well, almost. Sent it to a couple of others to make sure it works on them, and I also need to adjust the skin for at least two other skin tones

I haven't specifically tried it myself, but since Vitaar is a helmet, I would think so. If you happen to have two of a lower level one, try changing one to the Arishok vitaar so you can test it. It'll only change the one (I think.)

Yes. Equip and unequip it. It will be listed in CE, hit change and paste in the new id. Go back to game and equip the Vitaar.

I am looking at the pj texture. What are the two sizes for. It looks like there is a smaller one on top of a bigger one. Which one do I use?

I made a back-up of all saves...overly cautious, I guess. But I got what I wanted. Just added all the shards...and turned on god mode because that last fight kicked my level 13 quizzy's butt

Looks like the first one that was created (HM) has a different wrap from the ones created afterwards which have all been layed overtop of the first original texture. This is why making one for multiple races/genders is such a pita. Typical case of Bioware logic. The top one is the one for your race/gender.

Is there a way to remove item level restrictions? I got the stupid arishok vitaar, swapped it with a low level one via CE, but it still has the same restrictions?

 

Edit: Okay, I ended up figuring out how to raise my level, so I just did that.

 

@Eham:

 

if I upload these, are the color changes you did for me going to be in effect? I'm pretty the two that you did are in a separate patch, but I want to be sure. I don't want to upload something that someone else did.
