I'm more annoyed he called it lore-unfriendly. What's so lore unfriendly about a shave head when it's already an option in CC?

Agreed a shaved head is not lore-unfriendly, but hey, some of us love lore-unfriendly, so bring on the Glamazons and mohawks

Another day, another homophobic troll. I'm more annoyed he called it lore-unfriendly. What's so lore unfriendly about a shave head when it's already an option in CC?

Nvm, he's gone now. Good riddance.

I would like to have that scalp, its way better then the ones in the CC imo

Thanks. As with all the face mods I've been trying out, I'm having issues with both the alpha and the normals.

To make the complexions work with all skin tones, the alpha is around 50% grey. This means that any modifications you make to the face/scalp are only 50% opaque unless you fix the alpha to 100% white in the areas where you want to make changes otherwise you lose a lot of the detail and depth of colour.

The trouble is trying to blend from grey to white in areas with fine detail (like tiny eyebrow hairs or lashes) where you want the skin colour to show through because in the white areas you have to basically make a decision on skin colour for everyone. So far I haven't managed to solve the problem where it works for all skin tones.

This is what it looked like in Max:

pBe19jV.jpg

The only way I've been able to keep close to that level of detail was to make the whole face opaque and then try to match a skin colour before CC and then blending at the neck. Not ideal.

Sorry to ramble on Adela. This was more of a "has anyone else solved this issue?" post.

Edit: another example of "wasted" detail work.

Ah you did it on the skin itself? Have you tried making it on the "scalp mesh" and see how it looks? Kinda like how the eyebrow presets are, maybe that will solve the skintone issue

EDIT NVM  i just checked  some of the textures and meshes and it seems u did it the right way  the hair scalp is on the actual skin and it doesn't have a separate map like the eyebrows, so yea i can see now where the issue comes from.... unfortunately I haven't messed around with those.. so im not sure how it works... sorry that i couldn't be of any help :(

There are several scalp masks that work like eyebrow masks to a point with the different masks on different channels but the loss of detail is even worse because they are more of an on/off black/white kind of texture which is why they look unrealistic.

Ah I see, i didn't get to see the mask yet, but from the pics you posted they look pretty detailed to me, specially the eyebrows, I think it was Eham or someone else who mentioned that 50% gray on characters on alpha masks doesn't translate well,  and that the devs used that for particles instead... or something like that I don't remember the exact words...

I think that was about hair transparency. I appreciate the brain storming :)

I think what I might do (even if I don't release it) is use one of the follower face textures as a base, keep the face textures at 100% opaque and then mod the game to allow selecting one of their skin tones in the CC ( this was why I was asking Eham about this the other day) so that the body matches. It's not ideal but I really don't want to lose the detail or be constrained by other limitations that masks place. For example, the eyebrow masks are retrained to a pretty small area on their respective channels. If you"draw outside the lines", it shows up on another eyebrow set.

The masks ur seeing for the faces control the subsurface scattering, all white means controlled by SSS, all black means no SSS. which is why you see the eyebrows and scalps masked out.

The file uhm_lightcharacter_scalp_t.dds seems to have both scalp and eyebrows in the masks but the the scalp textures with tint in the name seem to be used by the CC to colour scalp textures used in different hairstyles. They have no eyebrows and they seem to match the scalps from the CC... I could be wrong.

The ones that end with _m are the ones I was referring to, they are the masks for SSS. Your probably right about the tint ones.

I just looked at some of those for followers. This actually presents another problem. I think that the game might use the eyebrow/scalp tint masks as SSM masks as well in which case I'm screwed because I have no way of telling the game to not use it on the bald scalp just because I painted hair on it.

Yeah I'm starting develop a growing hatred for it as well. I think today Imight just play the damned game instead of stressing over modding (the normal map for the Ashley Alliance Shirt mod was giving me hell yesterday - I almost through my mouse across the room).

Does anyone have a savegame that i can use, that is at the start of the winter ball? Im trying to see if I have removed Solas's hat, but the only save I have is one just before entering the great hall and the final sequence, which I don't see Solas at all.

Here you go. I've included 3 saves, one just outside the War Room before I went (so you can choose your own party) one as soon as I was able to save in the Courtyard upon arrival (this one has today's date), and one upon walking into the Servant's Quarters. Fem!Human inq.

Eham, look back a page. I put 3 saves up, one just before going into the War Room to go, one just as I got there (alas, without Solas as a party member) and one where we had just gone into the Servant's Quarters. If the ones where we're already there don't have Solas, you can use the one outside the war room, and go there.

HA! Ninja'd again.  :P

Actually, I just made you a fresh one, as soon as I get there, and brought Solas.

Thanks, Solas hat has been removed. Altho the silhouette that appears when you highlight him still shows the hat silhouette for some reason.

Will that be going into the Community Patch soon, or is it not going to be available until the next iteration of the tools/mod manager?

I will release it as a standalone mod once the new mod manager comes out.

Then I'll be holding off on the Ball in my latest playthrough until it comes out. I'm so HAPPY! That hat is the stupidest, most obvious/visible bug I've seen so far. (which I'm sure makes me very lucky, but still...you'd think they'd have caught it.)

Hey gang! Excellent progress made so far. It makes my day to see what you all are up to and to admire the talent here. <3

I popped back on to request a bug fix, if possible..I'm not sure the mesh work is far enough along, but I am sure female human mages other than myself would appreciate a fix. On the Battlemage Armor Arms, the left side patch of chain mail floats in the air above the shoulder (it sits on the arm on the correct side). It looks fine on elven females, and have not tested on other races/genders but human and elf females. If you need a screen or more info I would be happy to provide it if I can. My mesh work is not very good or I'd take a stab at it myself. It's a great arm slot upgrade, and it drives me batty to wear it in its current state. I think making it invisible would be an excellent temp fix too...

Either way, happy modding! <3

No I dont, but I know the reason, theres a second stream of data thats used for depth specific effects, such as outlines, shadows, etc. it was previously unknown till now, so working on replacing it aswell.
