I want to see if it would be possible to just texture clothing onto the base nude texture instead of dealing with the pjs. I've got the nude mod, and I labeled where I think everything is on the basenude texture in an attempt to see where everything meets up. The only thing is, when I go to look in game, none of the changes I made to the texture are there. My character is naked as a jay, but nothing I do to the texture seems to have any effect in game. Anyone know what the problem might be?

I saved in the same format as the original texture, and I previewed in the modding tool after I replaced it so I know it's the edited one going into the mod file.

I would just like to point out that retexturing the base nude textures may not produce the results you want as I believe those textures are shared by most of the nude meshes, male and female, so you will get some weirdness in things like the romance cutscenes. As for the problem of the textures not showing up, not sure what could be causing that. Maybe the nude mod had the vanilla basenude textures included and is therefore not referencing your new ones?

Are there absolutely no changes at all? Or maybe faint changes? The only thing I can think of is you need to make the alpha white in the areas you edit to make changes on skin textures show up properly. Beyond that I don't know... are you still able to replace other textures?

EDIT:

This makes more sense. Have you tried changing your armour to the nude mesh with Cheat Engine (without having the nude mod applied).

Also I agree that changing the nude textures probably won't give you what you're looking for. The game applies subsurface scattering to skin textures to make it seem fleshy and realistic. If there's a way to turn this off, I haven't found it (followers have special mask textures which turn it off in certain areas) but there isn't anything like that for the Inquisitor.

If you do find a way around it, I'd love to know myself.

From what I could tell, the male texture is on the top and the female on the bottom. I was only trying to edit the female, but you bring up a good point on romance scenes. I didn't even think of that. Maybe I can at least tweak the texture to make it a little more detailed.

I didn't even think of the alpha. After looking around, I figured it was whatever applies the skin tone covering up the base texture, so the alpha makes sense. Right now, there is no change at all. I used the flycam to zoom in pretty close, and saw nothing. I had 'arm' and 'torso' written across it in huge letters, so something should have been visible.

I also didn't consider subsurface scattering...might be best to just give up on clothing that route then.

We can modify meshes, as long as vertex count or order doesn't change.

It's in the game. Medium Adventurer Armor from the Dwarven bookseller in Redcliffe. It sometimes drops as random loot too, and several npcs in Val Royeaux wear it.

Yes, it's that blade from the Cradle. I use it as an appearance though:

I've been having trouble getting my hands on the re-release of Shantia's textures for a couple of days, now. Mediafire is just utterly non-responsive. Has anyone successfully downloaded it? If so, would it be possible for someone to throw me the file?

@ mrjack -

You used CE to swap the pjs with the nude texture, didn't you? Would you mind telling me how?

Don't know if you've used CE before to swap armour so I'll explain the whole process.

  1. Have a 1 piece armour you don't care about losing in your inventory (you can use a "chest" piece but you will lose the slots and game *may* crash)
  2. In Cheat Engine check box Inventory Item Editor
  3. Equip and then unequip armour. You should see the amour details listed in CE.
  4. Check "Change" box below, a dialogue window shoud pop up.
  5. Enter: DA3/Equipment/Items/Armors/equip_nude
  6. Click OK twice.
  7. Reequip armour and it should have changed to the nude body.
  8. Uncheck all boxes you previously checked in CE  and close if you are done or leave open if you use it for other things.
  9. That piece of armour should always look like the nude mesh now.

Sorry if this is overly simplistic. You probably just wanted this: DA3/Equipment/Items/Armors/equip_nude

Thank you! If a chest piece risks crashing the game, what would be best to use?

Also, if anyone happens to know this,  I noticed that n maps say they are ATI2 format now when previewed in the modding tool. I'm not familiar with this format. Is it the same as DXT? Do normals now have to be saved in that format to work?

I have used chest pieces in the past without crashes but people have warned against it sooo... it's up to you. Any one piece like the Inquisition armor or the adventurer armor will do.

I use The Compressonator to convert normals to ATI2N format. Usually I extract the normal convert it to DTX1 using The Compressonator so I can see what I'm working on in Photoshop, edit it and then convert it back to ATI2N. Seems to work for me. Had to do the same for ME2. If it's a completely new normal, just save as DTX1 and convert.

Is there a list of hair tint values used during chargen somewhere?

Editing the base nude texture works fine using CE, so I guess it is the nude mod over riding the textures. I can see my edits now, but it's a bit of a pain. I can't add moles or any other blemishes that would occur on realistic skin because the maps are symmetrical, so everything appears mirrored and looks rather silly.

In russian version Exporter of static meshes broke obj format by pointing "," instead of "."

Please fix it.

If it is important I have Russian Windows.

Yeah I was going to do something similar, adding blemishes to skin and such, until I found that out. Suppose we'll have to wait until we can import custom meshes for all races/genders and make it so they don't share one texture map. I'm guessing they've done things like this with most assets to make them more efficient but I can't help but think BW went a little overboard this time...

What settings do you use for the Compressonator? I went to compress, and tried the ATI2N and I'm getting weird color issues with the texture in game so I know I'm doing something wrong. It woes fine if I don't replace the normal map, so I'm assuming that's where the problem is.

I use the default settings:

ATI 3Dc Compression > ATI2N > Channel weighting 0.333 across the board > no alpha > normal compression speed.

When I say that it works "fine", it isn't always the case. I sometimes get visual artifacts if I make the normals too strong and I have tried replacing with a standard DTX1, replacing with DTX1 using Ottemis' method of swapping the Red and Green channels and inverting the Blue and lately just converting to ATI2N so it's in the correct format for the game at least. The one thing I haven't tried yet is using Ottemis' method and then converting to ATI2N but I think that might defeat the purpose of the workaround so I'm not really going to suggest it.

Are you still editing the basenude texture? Because I seem to get poorer results on skin textures. I have to admit that normals stress me out. There are so many variables depending on what game you're modding. All engines seem to have their own little requirements which I don't know yet for DAI :(

Yeah ATI2N or not, the normal is still all about the red and green channel. The native is two channel, not three. I still use the same method as before, I just change format in the compressonator afterwards.

I've been planning to edit the guide to go into specifics more but have just been smack busy, haven't gotten around to it yet.

Hey y'all! Anyone have any advice on how to temporarily remove mods so that I can play MP? I have been unable to play it after trying for two hours today (getting only the black loading screen) and someone suggested it could be because of mods.

However, I don't want to just start removing stuff from folders without knowing what I'm doing and potentially corrupting my SP games.
