Okay... I think I understand what that means xD You mean the "merged" folder that I had to create? Okay, easily done! Let's just hope I remember where to put it back

You can just move your 'merged' (modded) folder from "..\Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition\Update" on the same physical disk, should be fast and easy. You can place it back when you're done playing MP.

Edit: Lol. Ninja'd. Damn page jump =P

I use the default settings:

ATI 3Dc Compression > ATI2N > Channel weighting 0.333 across the board > no alpha > normal compression speed.

When I say that it works "fine", it isn't always the case. I sometimes get visual artifacts if I make the normals too strong and I have tried replacing with a standard DTX1, replacing with DTX1 using Ottemis' method of swapping the Red and Green channels and inverting the Blue and lately just converting to ATI2N so it's in the correct format for the game at least. The one thing I haven't tried yet is using Ottemis' method and then converting to ATI2N but I think that might defeat the purpose of the workaround so I'm not really going to suggest it.

Are you still editing the basenude texture? Because I seem to get poorer results on skin textures. I have to admit that normals stress me out. There are so many variables depending on what game you're modding. All engines seem to have their own little requirements which I don't know yet for DAI :(

Yeah, still fooling around with the basenudes. The texture looks great in photoshop and then once I get it in the game, all the detail I added is blurred out. I'm not sure if there's a noticeable difference, or if there's even a point to messing with it  The things that bug me aren't even visible most of the time, and while I'll admit that running around Val Royeaux naked amuses my inner 12 year old, even that gets old after about five minutes.

Make sure you have the latest modding tool and mod manager. I was having blur problems before I got the newest versions.

I have the latest tools, and I'm compressing it like you said, but for some reason, every time I try to use an edited normal, I get this weird shadowed effect on the texture. The torso looks like it is two halves, and the legs are much darker than the top.

The normalmap your generating is wrong, compare it to others in the tool itself and see if they match. Usually when you see halving like that, its because u've mirrored something, normals dont react well to mirroring without some crazy math in shaders.

This happens even if I just add something to the original normal map. For example, I wanted to change the shape of the navel on the base nude texture. The only thing I did to the normal was alter that. I'm not sure why it would be mirrored. I never had an issue with the normals prior to the new mod format. I'm not complaining, just confused.

I am finally (more or less) content with the set of vitaar I made. The textures aren't blurry anymore too.  :)

This has nothing to do with the daimod format tho, this is because normals are now edited and imported as ATI2. Something is wrong in your pipeline is all I can say. Originally we were importing as DXT1, so completely changing the format from a two channel to a three channel normal, now they stay as a two channel, I know that photoshop does some altering to imported normals, makes them brighter, make sure ur not falling victim to photoshop post processing. Otherwise u may need to contact others who have made normalmap changes with success to see what they are doing.

EDIT: Just to add to this, I am no texture artist, but I did a small test by making an alteration to Cullens face normal to remove the scar bump, using GIMP, saved to ATI2, imported thru the tool, and ran ingame, no issues, scar bump was visibly gone, and there were no other abnormalities.

Heres a pretty cool and important progress update. I now have the ability to add new assets entirely. You can see an example of this in the below link:

After giving up on screen shots, I've released my dwarf pajama mod on Nexus. Thanks you very much to ELE for letting me port it from your elf pajamas.
