Mods are not working anymore with Patch 6, not even with the workaround for Patch 5. If you can, avoid downloading it until mods work again. You can play offline with Patch 5  :)

How? I put Origin in Offline mod but now my game won't launch :(

I can lauch the game with Origin offline. But if you have already updated your game to patch 6 then you either will have to revert to Patch 5 or stop using mods as the game won't load with Patch 6 and mods.

Nope I didn't download the patch today. But for some reason my game will not launch in offline mode.

Okay, after a computer restart, Origin is finally allowing me to play DAI offline :)

Interesting... with Eham gone and BW seems to modify their files every time, looks more and more like they are trying to prevent modders to "mess around with their precious engine" at this point i think its a waste of time for me to make hairs if they are not gonna work... :(

I know how you feel. But last time wasn't he confident that the change wasn't just to "get at" modders but that modding was just an unfortunate casualty?

I think if they really wanted to stop modding it something that would've come pre-built or been added pronto... not several months after.

Keep your chin up :)

True.. idk what the deal is anymore... i guess im just frustrated with the new patches, that keep messing up our stuff... also im wondering that with the new dlc tomorrow if it will require for ppl to download the new patch in order to play it... that would  be a  bummer

I have a feeling it will :(

And Origin is back to not letting me play offline. I don't know WTF is going on. It won't even launch the sims offline.

just download the patch and play the DLC.

Eham and voider cracked the game already, they can do it again. Just have some patience :)

I do know that when they made the change from Patch 4 to Patch 5, and changed the way that the game reads the Update folder on launch (thus breaking the 'merged' folder type of mods), it made a *significant* difference to load times in an unmodded game. When I switch back and forth between modded game and the beta, I still notice that difference. Something about the way the files are structured and how the game examines the files as they load seemed to me a pretty good reason why they changed the process.

This time? I bet it has something to do with the DLC. I'm pretty darn sure that the game will be cracked again, but it is a setback for modding. If only they allowed us to tint the Skyhold outfit in-game...

It would mean destroying my current modded Solas romance, so nah :P But I am patient. I'm in no hurry to play the DLC. And I have faith in everyone to crack this :)

For me, I reallllly need that 0-time war table mod right now (getting screenshots of all the missions - ALL THE MISSIONS - would be extra painful without it. So, yeah, no updating for me just yet.

Yeah I don’t think it’s the dev’s deliberately mucking things up, it’s probably just that their pipeline isn’t modding friendly, it happens with most games.

I do hope in future though EA would relax its no modding policy so we can avoid stuff like this, it’s one of the few things Steam does right with the Steam workshop and given that they've found a way to monetize it to a degree I would've thought it would be something that EA would be getting it’s claws into by now.

Does it really though. Or just those that were a mess to begin with.

Of course it happens with practically all games. Unless dev’s planned for mod support and created a pipeline that allows for it there will be problems when it comes to modding. I’ll admit some games are easier to mod than others but that’s largely down to the engine is being used. Frostbite is like Unreal in terms of mod support, it was never designed to function in that way therefore it’s a pain to mod.

Don't lose faith, modders. You rock.

You tell these Bioware nerds!!

Once again, I don't think the Bioware dev team is trying to prevent us from modding.  I think its just simply how craptastic the frostbite 3 engine is.  So maybe in order for them to fix some of the issues, they had to follow a procedure that DICE used to fix BF3 &4.  That fix just happened to mess up how we did mods.

Keep in mind Bioware may be working side by side with the creators of frostbite 3..but that in no way means they are experts of how it works.

Several times its been stated Eham is taking a break.  The guy has been working non stop since the release of the game, so please give him a break.  We've been lucky he's worked this long, without a major pause.

The first thing I'd suggest anyone thinking about updating and toying with the new update...is to back up your game lol.  That way in event you need to roll back to the previous update, you have a way to.

I haven't checked how they exactly changed the update folder since the last update...which makes it so I can't simply just back up a couple files and revert easily.

The funniest part of all of this, is this game reminds me of an MMO in terms of how modding works.  Essentially every time any major change is done, it breaks our mods completely.

I really missing being able to just slap a bunch of files into an override folder...

This is the price we pay for the retarded demand for graphics in an RPG. I would have been fine if DAO up till DAI was all entirely the same graphics.  Thanks alot FF7!

I understand if life gets in the way but it would be nice to hear from Eham one way or the other. He hasn't even visited the DAI Moddding Tool forums for 3 weeks. I feel like DAI modding at this point is dead . And WarrantyVoider hasn't logged on since January/ I know we couldn't do anything without these guys but I wish we knew where we stand. Is there still hope or are we done?

.

I understand the concern but when Eham takes a break to unwind after putting a tremendous chunk of time into not only toolset development, but answering questions like these and continuous forum and nexus support on a daily basis for months on end, honestly the best thing we can do is understand the need for a break and give him that room.

It is logical to me he would disappear from view for a while because it is literally the only way to truly unwind and exclude yourself from the equation and conversation for a while. I talked to him somewhere right after the launch of patch 5, he was still visiting the forums then and I literally told him to stay away and that we'd handle the noise over the current changes and spread news of the workaround so he could stay on his break because we wouldn't need him for that, he could take his time.

You can be assured that 1. the changes were a setback for him and 2. He needs to think long and hard about what course to take for the future and that will no doubt involve the deconstruction of the latest patches first to see what is happening now. I'm quite positive that, even if he would poke his head back in now, it would not be an easy fix and it would only risk him burning out that much harder.

In that sense playing the waiting game NOW is actually a much healthier approach for him.

You / we just have to trust that his drive and commitment will bring him back, we owe him as much as he's surely shown he possesses both in spades.

Hehe, you guys should check out Wendera's hair mod here:

http://daitools.free...5502.html#p5502

Thanks to Adela's tutorial, looks like other modders are trying their hands at it :D  We have so many talented modders all over the place!  Make sure to stop by and give her some well deserved thanks :D

I may as well, if I can get the stupid tool to load up for me.  (crashes when making the cache file ;/)

Thank you for that link Silvist, sometimes I forget to check those boards. I don't know why devs thought the original bangs on that 'do were acceptable, they were absolutely HIDEOUS.

I have them with my other mods now, patiently awaiting some type of fix/workaround for using them again. I couldn't resist the DLC, lol...

Really great news Adela!! Is it the same as patch 5, or something else? I am attempting it now, I have the rescan going as we speak...

Sorry for the dumb (probably) question, lol. REALLY strong meds are kicking it right now lol...

Awww, no worries Adela. I still have my old patch, but not sure if it'll work with the new DLC. I DO have a new playthrough started that is vanilla lol...but oh my lawd I MISS the face texture, hair, and smaller mods I have as well...

I, too, am trying a few things out. If that doesn't work then I'll try plugging patch 5 back in and going offline, and I'll be sure to let you all know the results as well. :) <3

Okay update from me, lol...I am now running a new patch to use with my patch 5 stuff because everything that seemed to work that I did with merging mods resulted in a black screen with the logo bottom right and no game...

Edit...Okay, I am trying one more thing (changing the 7 to a 6 in the .ini file for the mod manager)...will update again with results and it might be a bit if I repatch for patch 5 instead, lol.!
