I thought the workaround to use mods w/Patch 6 (by which I mean, downloading Patch 6, then replacing it with Patch 5 files, rebuilding mods, etc) worked with the DLC as well. 

 

Edit: Ah, no, i see on the modding forums they confirmed the DLC crashes if you try to load with a modded 5. It requires files in the Patch 6 download (which explains the patch's size). Oh, well!

Glad the DAI and Keep icons showed up on their own because I had trouble getting my DAO and DA2 icons to show up, in the past.  :)

I'd tell you how to get yours (not the different acct ME ones) but someone on this forum did it for me...all I had to do was copy and paste. That was SO nice.  B)

Hmm personally I'm just grateful for the mods I have and the fact that, thanks to one modder (creator of the Equal Opportunity Solas mod), I am finally able to enjoy DAI. I was miserable and depressed when DAI came out, for various personal reasons, and my crushing disappointment over the romance situation only made things worse. (I wasn't new to the DAI bandwagon either; I have been avidly following it's production and dreaming about the potential romance-able characters... all of which I've been gender-gated out of... for years).

 

Even if no solution is ever found for Patch 6... even if I have to buy a frigging xbox one and play the frakking DLC that way... I don't care. Because I say, thank the blessed Creators for modders and what they've done for me. There's now a tiny spark of happiness in my life thanks to them (and that one modder in particular). So I may not be happy with BioWare and some of the decisions they've made, but Mythal knows you'll never hear a word against modders out of these lips :)

I think a part of the patching issue might lie in the fact that the character creation has changed ever so slightly - not sure if they always had as many premade options at launch?

 

Regardless, for now I'm playing the unmodded content until such times as we can play with mods again. 

 

When we can I'll go back to wearing my more stylish PJs and enjoying some of the companion retextures (cleaner Cullen pls). 

 

That said don't lose heart, you guys are doing amazing work, but I think you should all take the much deserved break while there's some down time. <3

Guys... I have somewhat  of a news Im trying to lure one of my friends in that is a coder to help us out since Eham didnt leave his code  he will probably have to build up from the source code that voider put it

 

Im still trying to talk to him right now to join us and if he says yes PLEASE be very respectful and no pressure... im trying to work this out with him so please keep the fingers crossed for me  so he will say yes

 

And also if he does join please show support

Ok so he said that the project looked interesting  and he will take a look at it tonight. Ive explained the situation to him about patches, he doesn't have the game  but he said he will get it So for now I don't want to get too excited until I know for sure that he will be involved 100% I will keep u posted

I’ve been trying to do the same with some of the coders I work with but none of them seem too keen at the moment. We are in the middle of crunch time though so it’s not that surprising. May be in with a chance sometime in the future however.

More updates, after pleading with Dan for the whole day lol he decided to actually join the project (for realzies)  he just got the game and is now playing with the old code :wizard:  :wizard:

 

It may still take a bit before a new update of the tools tho

 

@FFZero the more the merrier :D

Update #2 Ok so we are trying  to make the mods not have trouble anymore with patches so what Dan was thinking, is that instead of making the  modded folder as an actual patch he will try to make it more as a DLC  that way it may update "automatically" whenever a new patch comes out so we don't have to go through the hassle of  merging the files every time. For now, he is investigating the  BW DLC content and see what he can do

 

Oh Adela, This is exiting news!

erk.  Sorry for the question: I gather from recent posts that the DLC seems to have thrown a wrench in mods.  Is this the same wrench (I assume?) that prevents old versions of DAI tools from opening the new sb files at all?  

 

I'm trying to poke around in the new JoH dialogue (not trying to modify anything- just read it or save it to txt) but opening the new en.sb file in DT seems to do.. nothing.  No error thrown, doesn't hang- just blank.  =w=  Are there simpler tools that might offer a workaround? Or is my best bet to sit tight and wait for an update to DT?

Wait for an update, I don’t think there are any other tools right now that allow us to look inside the game files. Also it’s not really the DLC that’s mucked things up, its patch 6. The method we currently use for mods has us replace the official patch and every time a new one comes out we need to update the tool to be able to read and replace it without causing issues.

 

Fingers crossed our new programming overlord can work his magic and make a new method so we don't have this headache every time they release a patch and the other programmers can actually make some progress if/when they come back.

I think the DLC path makes sense. It works like the incremental mods used to work

 

But Bioware heavily protects DLC with checksums and validations, to avoid other companies selling DLC for their games. I remember on ME3 it took a long time to be able to mod DLC files, while modding the main game was done a lot faster.

 

So yeah, it seems easier but we might find out it is actually harder.

There are still a fair number of people flat-out ruling out any mods in Frostbite, yet there is a whole Nexus page dedicated to DAI that proves them wrong. Sure, it mostly looks like a wardrobe, but that's progress for you.

The coders have done very well so far considering they get no support from BW whatsoever, and their effort lays the groundwork for modding DA4 in the future. It's really good news that Eham's work wasn't for naught.
