Has there been any news from Dan, WV or Eham regarding carrying on with the project (with patch 7 coming up) ? 

 

Also WV's old tools seemed like they were progressing well but that kid of stopped when Eham's tools started to have the most functionality. I know you have a relationship with him from the ME days, do you know if he's interested in carrying on this work?

 

I understand if no-one has been able to commit the time right now, I was just wondering.

Dan Is  working on implementing new features into Ehams tool such as mesh importing and make it more stable (DAIModdingTool) as for the mod manager Ive told Dan about the new patch and the new DLC coming up on May 5th He said he will work on it if there are any issues with the mod manager not working or with the modding tool. Voider is in the process of moving right now so he doesn't really have time to work on the tool  till late summer / early Autumn . Dan and Voider have been working together on straightening Ehams code for easier understanding so if other coders plan to join in, it will be easier for them as well, they have also put together a wiki for the toolset witch will be useful for any new coder

 

And regarding  hair mods im still working on them particularly on Joyce request of bangs I was planning to do a "hair pack"  that would be available for all races including qunari. As for males... still not sure what to make... if anyone can give me some pics maybe i will get some ideas

I have exported all the hair .obj and the basic head meshes and taken basic pictures of them. If P7 breaks the mods and/or modding tools &c (which I anticipate it will, at least at first), I plan to tinker with the hairs as well, starting with males so as not to step on Adela's toes because she's a goddess and I am SO EXCITE FOR HER STUFF. 

 

*ahem*

 

While doing this, I was very sad to discover that cool-looking hair was made but never implemented into the game. Based on the mesh, I can only imagine it had clipping issues? Oh, well. It was just a little sad to see an orphaned hair mesh.

 

Anyway, if you would like me to upload those resources to a download location for your own use, please let me know.

Would it be too much trouble to ask you to elaborate a bit on what sorts of hairs you're working on, and how progress is? We all very-much want to shower you with praise and adoration.

right now there isnt that much to look at,  working on one hairstyle that Joyce requested.. still not finished and then was planning to make something with bangs but with a pony tail witch i haven't started yet. here are some screen shots...

also witch hair mesh are u talking about because i've looked through all of them and didn't find anything  that wasn't already in the game... are u looking in a diff folder?

All the others I see in-game in the CC. This one isn't in the CC, but it doesn't have an NPC name. So I'm not sure what it is.

Forgot to answer this earlier, sorry for double posting!

One male hair style that I think might work (though I'm not sure about the ponytail) is something a la Ezio Auditore from Assassin's Creed. It would take work, but it's a male hairstyle that I will be practicing towards, though I don't trust my skills yet to really make it look good.

I was just showing hairstyle H to a friend earlier. This is what it looks like on a head:

It's a mullet with a receding hairline, and what I think is a bit of a combover. It does have a lot of geometry, which is appealing given the current limitations on modding, but I don't see this hairstyle getting a lot of use as-is if it were available to players. What's odd is that I'm pretty sure I never saw it on any NPCs either.

Yeah, but think of the possibilities if it were available to modders! That's my main lamentation.

But it's weird that there's a pretty much completed hairstyle there that isn't being used. The only thing I can think of is that it's maybe some kind of Orlesian style used under those masks or something? I've never seen it in game, that's for sure.

Also, let's admit it: those bald hairstyles aren't getting a lot of use, either. I'd use style 'h' LONG before I used all the bald styles, even as-is.

Do you mean beyond exporting the skin mesh asset?

 

First thank you for replying. It was the option that was being looked into for porting the headmorphs (MorphStatic) found in da3 > designcontent > headmorphs so people could edit the heads like Abelas etc or use their heads to replace characters like Solas. I believe someone even attempted replacing Solas' head with Abelas' head in game.

I actually saw that hair early on when the first tool was made. So maybe it was a hair they had planned on using just never did.

Hey beautiful people.. wanting to get back into DAI, and modding awesome modding. Have tried to scan the forums to see what all I've missed the past few months with patches, updates and such but too much reading makes my head hurt. So.. bottom line, what's the current state of modding? Buggy or easy enough? Can I just go download the latest mod manager and merge some texture mods or is it better to wait to see if there is a patch upcoming with the new DLC being released tomorrow? Many thanks and hugs for replies!

Hearing about that hairpack makes me really excited, I am dying to see my dwarfettes in fashionable hair. 

I hope this new patch will not be as much of a killer as the last one was, at least now it seems the patch_XXXXX works quite well. Hope it does when the new patch comes!

Reminds me of Nyssa's hairstyle from DA2, just updated for the newer engine.

It's very approximately got the outline of that hairstyle, but the direction and layering of the hair is very different. Trust me, this is a mullet with partial male pattern baldness. It would read very, very differently on Nyssa than her actual hairstyle does.

When I saw your render of hairstyle h, Twofold Black, I was reminded of Orsino but with long hair. So yeah, it does look like male pattern baldness with hair, which makes me think it was made for NPCs originally, or they didn't get a chance to finish it before the deadline came and they weren't allowed to work on certain assets anymore. In software development, after a certain point, you can't just 'go back and fiddle to make it better' like you can with a mod.

 

Another possibility is they decided it was too male, and since all the hair designs were supposed to be used for both genders, they opted to abandon it. Who knows.

 

Still, I wish we could get it into the game. It has so much geometry for modders!

Samson has his own hair mesh. Though it could be an early version of it maybe? Though the hairstyle the more I look at it looks really familiar but I can't think of whose hair it reminds me of.

a new update for DAI came out today and the BE will be out tomorrow Ive already talked to Dan today and let him know that the mod manager doesn't work and he said he might fix it later tonight or tomorrow

And just read your last msg; guess I will be playing offline for awhile :) My computer just came back from Dell and so far is running beautifully on the "High" setting ("Ultra" seems to cause it to crash). I guess I will avoid downloading BE, too, but that's fine as I'm happy with my Lavellan's current look.

 

Worse comes to worst, luckily the Solas romance modder said that even if all my mods fail, my Solas romance with my male Lavellan should be locked in, so that is comforting. Would be sad to lose my cool Skyhold outfit and other amazing mods I'm using.

Some things I'd like would be any form of a ponytail... I remember you recreated concept art Solas, which was a ponytail with shaved sides. That looked AWESOME. Or just a regular ponytail. Probably the one you said above that you're working on for females (with bangs) could look good for a guy, too. (Like an elf; I only play elves because I have serious elf-related issues.)

 

Something exotic and half-shaved, appropriate for a Dalish hunter... I like the half-shaved long-haired look in vanilla CC but the hair looks like chunks of paint and the shaved part also looks bad. It's like, good concept, poor execution, you know?!

I think I'm going to start a gallery on the DAI Tools forum for the resources I'm extracting. Images, .obj, etc. We really do need a centralized resource, and my Google Drive is mostly empty xD so why not use mine?

 

Anyway, if you have any requests, please let me know, and if it's extractable, I'll pull it out and put it into my resources in .zip format. You can PM me here or on the DAI Tools forum, and I'll let you know when it's extracted and ready, or of the resource isn't extractable yet.

looks like for now there is no need for a fix, thanx to lainfiquette all u have to do is change the  mft file and change the patch to version 9
