Ha! I knew it'd be easy, silly me. Thanks!

Yes, that's one of the one's I use, too!

Yes, there will be two folders, original and patched. You shouldn't need to do anything after that. Some people have done so (like me) for testing purposes only, but it shouldn't be necessary for the mods &c to actually work.

Let us know if removing that mod helps! You're not the only one with that issue.

Removed Shantia's textures and complexions. Removed any mod that was not a daimod. Still can't load saves post JoH.

Yes, that is the version I am using. It's very strange. I can go back to a save that is in the Frostback Basin but I can't pull up any saves made after I returned to Skyhold from there.

I downloaded the new mod manager again to make sure I had the most up to date version and I noticed that it only has the tool and another file. Do we need to copy over the .ini with this one aslo?

Adela and any other hair modders. I'm trying to decide which hair to try and mod and Ideally I want one that doesn't come with a scalp texture underneath (if one exists) so I can create my own. From what I can see, the mullet looks like it uses one, so does the half shaved one obviously. Any ideas? The only way I can check for sure is making mods for all of them and moving the hair out the way which isn't ideal.

I have the same problem that you do, but I discovered something weird in the process of testing that.

If I took a save from the Frostback Basin that was pre-Skyhold, went to Skyhold, then saved, I could then go back into the main menu and load it without hanging.

If I took a Frostback save, went to Skyhold and back to the Frostbacks, saved, I could also load it up with no problems.

Soo, saving with the merged patch 7 files makes it read properly, and trying to load a save (where you've gone to Skyhold and back) created with patch 6 does not?

The .ini file should be automatically created when you launch the tool. It will prompt you to find the path of the game installation, and then you manually set the mods path yourself.

I'm not really sure. I have a save in Frostback basin that is before I completed the DLC. I can install mods and retrieve this save.

The next save is after completing DLC and returning to Skyhold. I cannot have mods and access this save.

I can remove all mods and access the post DLC/Skyhold save. Adding any mods breaks it again. I've tried only installing minor mods like fabric changes and such with the same result.

You should try loading that pre-completed DLC save with patch 7, go to Skyhold, then back to the Frostbacks to save. It would kind of suck, but you would at least be able to play through the dlc and be able to load saves with patch 7 merged mods?

The saves that crashed were done with patch 6 mods, and I hadn't even finished the dlc at that point. I had just gone to Skyhold, then returned to the Frostbacks at some point, which caused the infinite hanging.

I'm in! And the hair mods load as soon as you return to Skyhold as long as you pick the base hair that was used for it.

Some strange things I noticed:

I can only get into the BE if I go from the world map. Every time I try from the war table, I get the freeze. Also, I had to disable *all* of Shantia's textures, but I also toggled off  ReShade before entering, so I'm doing another test to see if that had any real effect, or if the mods were what was causing the problem.

ETA: I can confirm, for my game at least, that none of Shantia's textures will work. Not even eyebrows  The Reshade thing doesn't actually seem to make a difference.

I'm not a hair modder but I did discover awhile back that the save editor (found on the nexus :DAI CLI Save Editor) will tint the hair and the scalp stubble seperately so you might be able to use that to see which hair uses the scalp texture..

As an example

Spoiler

Kinda obvious, but that one does ;)

Yep, i can go back to a prior save and add mods. Can't add any Shantia's mods though. I removed those, loaded the rest, and went to Black Emporium. I bought everything I wanted and left and saved. Loaded mods and added Shantia complexion 2...did not work. My inquisitor has foot face and I have to redo the DLC? Ugh.

Thanks for the reply. I might do that. I'll have to create a save each and check them out. Thinking about it though, even the longest hair has a scalp texture with a sideburn that everyone hated.

I took a few more screens while I was testing the BE.  If you want me to take pics of all the hairs just let me know.

It would have to be tomorrow though, this cold I have is kickin my ***.  I'm to bed.  Here's what I have so far.

The Mullet definitely does

I apologize for asking this, but I am a little confused. Is it the modding tool where we remove the dlc folder?

Thanks for going to the trouble. That helps a lot.

It wouldn't have worked because it was painted directly on the scalp instead the weird combo of mask texture + the below type texture, which I'd never seen before but I think works as a height map of sorts because when I just altered the mask, it still had the same roughness (there are no normal maps that I can find).

I am going to tackle this next but as there are a few different scalp textures, I'd have to know which one goes with what hair. Also if either of us changed the hairline the other would need to take it into account.

  That's interesting. It seems like Shantia's complexions cause some crashing, but not her eyebrows, face textures, or makeup. I know her complexions come with eyebrows painted on, but is there anything else about them that makes you want to use them over the face textures + eyebrow combo?

I wasn't able to get any of her textures to work, either. I even tried the eyebrows only, and it freezes every time. What other mods are you using, Cyran? I wonder if it might be a combination of a couple things. I really miss those textures.

Wanted to add that a face texture I made also caused a freeze and black screen.

I managed to run Myfanwy's eyes and shantia's eyebrows with patch 7 and BE. I can travel to Xenon's shop from the war table (no crashes) and use the mirror without problems.

I tried some facial textures before and I was crashing upon entering the BE. So maybe it's facial textures for some reason? I don't know... I'm gonna try more textures now that I got this working.

I didn't do anything special. Just merged mods using the patched mod manager.

I spent some time last night trying ALL MY MODS in little groups and narrowing down which ones DON'T work, mainly with BE.

These are the mods which cause the BE Mirror to give a black loading screen:

  • Cheek freckles from the Extra Complexions mod (which really saddens me, since i loooove that mod)
  • Smooth Hair Texture by Skaramoosh (nooooooooo!)
  • The Tats for Humans where Ottemis ported DAO tattoos into DAI (dammit)

I also had hilarious adventures with Darth Parametric's Black Trousers mod, but it only affected my male Qunari character, and it didn't kill BE, it killed the entire game and made it entirely unplayable. And made me almost die of laughter once I figured out it was a mod and not, in fact, a hideously corrupted save.

I've made a thread on the DAI Tools forum for people to report the specific mod they had to remove to get the BE Mirror working so we can centralize the information and help people who are still troubleshooting until the time when/if the problem is fixed.

That's odd...I had no problem with the hair texture mod, but the eyebrows and things that others have had no problem with cause me trouble. I also can't get the no level requirements mod to work on anything bought in the BE. For now, I've made a patch that works with the BE and I switch it out when I go there. It seems to work okay.

I did notice that a lot of mods don't work *inside* the BE at all even if they don't cause a crash. Like the hair mods (aside from the hair texture mod) didn't interfere with the Mirror loading, but they wouldn't show up in the BE. The Discount Stores mod didn't work. &c &c. I think this is because, like Jaws of Hakkon, the BE files are encrypted so the mods can't affect them. That's a guess, though.

But I merged mods with ONLY the hair texture pack, and it made the Mirror go to a black loading screen. (I might go back and test that one again just to verify after another repair, I really love that mod xD). But yeah, it is sooo easy with the new Mod Manager to just swap out different sets of mods, it's less of a concern than before.

Thank you again, Zhentar!

Ohhhh, hmmm. Maybe I'll try that. Either are worlds better than default. I'll try both (separately) to confirm and report back. Thanks!
