It seems the mod manager is having some problem with JoH weapon and/or gears, i was able to load a save right after finish the quest, and my character isn't using any kind of gear/weapon from DLC, but when i try to open up my weapon selection inventory wich display some of haakon weapons, the games freezes completely.

Hope this help, and sorry for my english.

EDIT 2 : eletricfish seems to have found a better solution for those who don't want to lose some mods, just follow his instructions below.

What is your mod list, if you don't mind me asking? It seems like you're the only person who has confirmed their saves to be working with the Frostback Basin JOH issue. Since you have no problems, it would be good to compare our mod lists to yours, since you have no compatibility problems so far.

Electric, I am using very few mods :)

This is my mod list:

yFtVGEq.jpg

And though I've tried it with a save after returning from Frostback Basin I don't think my character is using any weapons /armour from Jaws of Hakkon. Will try crafting one of them and see what happens :)

So here's a question:  what determines the version number that appears in the package.mft file?  I created a merged patch(using 0.51) and it worked fine.  Later I decided to add a few mods, and it gave me the whole "save was created with a more recent version" error.  When I looked at the package.mft files, the first one read as Version 9, while the second was Version 7.  Simply changing the version fixed the problem, but I'm curious as to why there would be a discrepancy in the first place when I used the same version of ModManager each time.

Did you remove your previously modded patch folder before re-merging your mods the second time?

Yup.  I moved the old modded patch folder to a different drive(in case the new one failed), renamed my patch_original folder to patch again, and then ran ModManager.  The only difference is that the first time I ran ModManager, I ran it with verbose logging, because it wouldn't create the patch otherwise for some reason.

So based on Ashara's mod list, I created a patch with only 1 mod active (LL Crafting fixes - bear). Unfortunately, nothing appears to have changed. I can load up Frostback Basin saves if I have NOT been to Skyhold in the middle of the DLC, but when I try to load a save where I DID go to Skyhold and back it froze and hung indefinitely until I force closed it.

I'll see if any of my characters are using JoH weapons or armor in the saves that cause hanging, since Ashara stated that she isn't using any in the saves she tested.

<edit> I reinstalled patch 6 and the relevant merged mods folder, loaded up one of the saves that caused me to hang and found that my character had a weapon crafted from JoH specific materials, and one of my companions had a JoH specific weapon equipped. I pretty much unequipped everything from my character and my party members before creating a new save (just in case).

After restoring patch 7 and creating a new merged mod folder (again, with only LL crafting fixes - bear), I attempted to load that new save where everyone is naked and ... it worked! I loaded it successfully without issue.

Here's a weird thing I noticed in the process. One of the Frostback Basin saves I can load fine with Patch 7 has my character wielding a JoH found weapon (Accuser's Staff), and none of the other companions are wielding either JoH found equipment or equipment crafted from materials found in JoH.

Maybe some of the hanging issues are caused by having crafted items equipped, and not necessarily going to Skyhold and back?

OK, after some more testing, this is what I get:

* if I try to craft a weapon with the character that has been to Frostback Basin the crafting menu freezes (because I have the schematics for the JoH weapons). Also the frozen cursor highlights the first vanilla schematic it founds (it ignores the JoH wepon schematics)

* I can craft an armour from JoH and equip it without problems

* I cannot go back to Frostback Basin with the character that has already been there, the icon on the map is there but I cannot select it.

* I can activate Frostback Basin on the War table with a new character and travel there without problems. And I can go back to Skyhold without problems again. And I can go back to Frostback Basin again. I must say that I haven't done anything there, just talk to Harding, then go back to Skyhold and then go back again to Frostback Basin. The bug is probably related to weapons or weapon schematics collected there, I think.

Hope this helps :)

I found out something potentially interesting while trying to figure out why my SmoothShinyHairTexture (Smooth Hair Texture) mod just wasn't working for me while it was for others.

What i discovered is that it is RACE & GENDER BASED.

My results (with the characters I had that were far enough to test with):
  • Male Human: No workie (can enter BE, can't use Mirror)
  • Male Qunari: No workie (can enter BE, can't use Mirror)
  • Female Qunari: Workie! icon_e_smile.gif
  • Male Elf: Workie! icon_e_smile.gif
  • Male Dwarf: No workie (can't even enter BE at all, much less access the mirror)
I don't have a female dwarf, human, or elf on my PC (they're on my PS4), but the results floored me.

I'm PRETTY sure that female elves work just fine.

And I'm wondering if this phenomenon extends to other face texture mods and it hasn't been reported so much because so many modders play as female elves and humans.

It just is so interesting that it boils down to this point.

<snip>

EDIT: I might have found a temporary fix for JoH freezes

First of all, remember to do this at your own risk, and second, i didn't do extensive testings (i'm playing on another playthrough wich still is low level to go there and the character i've tested already had terminated all quests)

After mod manager finished merging i just copied this files:

W9wFLc7.jpg?1

into my merged patch folder/data/win32 and then i could browse my inventory without freeze again and equip them, here's the <snip>

Ah! I think you may have stumbled across the fix! After copying those files into my merged patch folder, I was able to load up all of my Frostback Basin saves with no problem.

<edit> Hm. I probably should have expected this, but my modded Skyhold outfit reverted back to the vanilla beige?

That's really odd, my male human was able to go into the weird. This is giving me a headache tbh. Btw do you have a link for your mod on you, I'd love to try it!

This is the list of mods I have loaded... I'm not experiencing any issues with areas being inaccessible, or crashing, other than the weapon crafting thing and another issue that I only found because I saw mention of JoH weapons in inventory causing crashes: I can modify weapons, as long as my inventory does NOT contain JoH weapons. When I pulled the Hakkon weapons out of my storage chest and went to the weapon modification station, the game locked up just like the weapon crafting window.

So... I can go in and out of the JoH map, visit the BE, and mess up my Inquisitor's face there.

Some mods do not work any longer (that's what I've been doing, working through my usual load list so I can remove detritus); so far, I've confirmed that the Infinite Uses ReSpec Amulet and Remove All Armor Class Restrictions mods are toast. I cannae tell if the More Loot/More Fade Touched mods are working or not, ditto the Unfixed AoP... I've only got the one playthrough and my saves are very late-game and pretty much everything is dead and looted, except for the Cradle of Sulevin... and that farm went fallow a long time ago. :-/  The War Table More Mats mod does work. The spell mechanics mods seem to be working, but I'd just added them to my game when the patch hit and hadn't played with them enough to get a sense of their behaviour... the Always Full Focus does work, though. *melts a pair of Bogfishers*

The few cosmetic mods I have installed did not cause any issues with the BE, and as far as I can tell, they are working properly.

Oh, it's not MY mod, it's Skaramoosh's mod. Sorry! I misspoke. I really recommend it if you don't have it, the link to get it is here.

And my male human can go into the Mirror without an issue EXCEPT when the SmoothShinyHair mod is loaded. It's the only mod that makes it go to the infinite loading black screen. When I remove it, voila, I can access the mirror with my male human.

Bah. I went to try the 'copy over the itemappearances.XXX files to the merged Win32 folder' thing but there are already files there with those names... should I be overwriting them?    /tsm fail

Is the time stamp different between the files on either side, perchance?

Yeppers. The ones in the merged Win32 folder have the same timestamp as the rest of the merged!Patch files. The 'official' ones have the 4/14/2015 timestamp.

They are also very different in size, with the merged!Patch files being larger.

Maybe make backup copies of the ones you would overwrite (just in case) and then try the method jnigh7 recommended and see if that fixes the problem? FOR SCIENCE!

(belated reply) It's okay in a way, because the new mod manager makes it so easy to create modded patch folders, i'll just keep a 'BE' and 'non-BE' patch folder handy and swap them in and out. It's just weird. Though I'm hoping the weirdness helps the devs/modders figure out how to make patches more compatible with the BE eventually.

ETA that yes, I can use the weapon crafting after copying over those files, but then the Skyhold outfit replacer doesn't work and neither does DP's fix for the non-tintable leather armour parts. (Wow, that yellow leather is ugly!)

So I tested out the fix jnigh7  found a little more. Overriding the files in the merged mods folder caused the following mods to not be active anymore: horography's Dalish female Skyhold outfit, Darker Leather Pads, Darker Leather Trousers, and a prologue armor retexture.

Other mods like Kieta's Vitaar, Skaramoosh's Halamshiral attire, and LL's crafting material tweaks are functioning as normal.

So..I guess if you don't mind going back to vanilla on some appearances, this will work for doing JoH and not crashing due to DLC equipment?

I figured I would add my experience here, in case it helps someone figure out how to get everything working again...

I downloaded the new mod manager last night (0.50) and tried to run the game after merging all of my mods. I could get to BE, but when I tried to view the weapons or mirror or schematics, then clicked on anything (sell/a piece of equipment/etc) the game locked up. It didn't crash and I didn't get a black screen, it just locked up and I could do nothing. I had to ctrl-alt-del to get out of the game.

I tried again today to see if anything else would work. Going to the Frostback Basin caused the game to throw me out. No black screen, no lockup, it just booted me out and the game stopped running. I checked the running processes and it was no longer there. I managed not to throw my laptop across the room and decided to test a bit more...

Using the newer mod manager (0.51), I did another merge, leaving all of my mods enabled. The game started, i could travel to Frostback Basin with no trouble whatsoever, interact with the environment. bathe in the poison spider blood, and everything was dandy. Encouraged, I traveled directly to BE. Again, I made it there with no problem, but again, any time I open anything - mirror, weapons, schematics, materials (I reloaded and tried each one) - then click on anything, the game immediately locks up and I have to ctrl-alt-del to kill it.

One more addition: I use LL Skyhold Clothing (as well as every other LL mod in existence) and it no longer works. The game loads, as I said, but the Skyhold clothing is back to that ugly ass tan pajama getup instead of the nice red and black clothing from LL. Other recoloring works fine. I used the tinter mod in the basement at Skyhold and it works fine and the recolors stick. It's just the stupid pajamas that are back to being tan.

I haven't checked all mods, but most others seem to be working fine, including Black and White Skyhold, no waiting for war table missions, gothic font, and war table more materials (seriously, wtf was Bioware thinking having scouts sent out to collect materials and coming back with three lousy herbs??). I may test more later, if I have time. If this is helpful to anyone in the modding community, please let me know. If not, I'll keep it to myself! :P

Next update on testing! You know how overriding those files causes some mods to be broken? Well, it turns out that if you make a new save after loading a game with the workaround, you can either create a new merged mod folder or restore a backup of the itemappearances files in order to load that new save without issue.

So the full steps:

  1. [Optional]Navigate to Dragon Age Inquisition\Update\Patch_ModManagerMerge\Data\Win32
  2. [Optional]Backup the 4 itemappearances.* files by copying to a different folder
  3. Navigate to Dragon Age Inquisition\Update\Patch\Data\Win32 [vanilla patch folder]
  4. Copy the 4 itemappearances.* files
  5. Navigate to Dragon Age Inquisition\Update\Patch_ModManagerMerge\Data\Win32 [modded patch folder]
  6. Open Inquisition with a JoH save that was causing crashing before
  7. Save as new file
  8. Make new merged mod folder OR restore backed up itemappearances.*

After that, you can load the new save with all of the mods working (like Skyhold outfits) and without needing to do the workaround.

<edit> Updated with a better tutorial. Would like confirmation that this actually works for other people.

Yes, whatever mods who changes or uses those files shouldn't be working anymore since you are putting the vanilla ones in directory.

All my MODs are working flawlessly with Patch 7, B.E. and the DLC.

I have lots of MODs even the eyebrow and face MOD is working-even in B.E.

All you need to do is download the latest version of MOD Manager- I place mine in a new folder in the documents sections.

Documents----> New Folder ---> Mod Manager.

Then I do the same with my MODs.

Documents ---> New Folder (where the Mod Manger is)---New Folder to place your MODs.

Make sure when you place your MODs in here that you unzip the file. If you do not, the MOD will not work. You should get a folder of the MOD if it unzipped correctly.

Next Repair the game.

Once the game is repaired. Open Mod Manager. (I run mine on Admin since it won't open any other way).

At the top you'll see two directory boxes.

The first one you need to direct to the folder location of where your MODs are.

The second one needs to be direct to the game's exe.

Once everything is directed correctly. You should see you MODs in the list. Disable/Enabled what you want.

This is important. Make sure the bottom right box that says "scan for new patch" (or whatever) is checked.

Then click merge.

Your now Modded and ready to launch the game.

If your getting an error where it cannot merge. Go to your game's main folder and delete the folder saying "Merged Patch." Then go back and Merge again.

If you are getting crashing, black screens etc. that generally means one of your game files is corrupted. Easily can be fixed with running a  repair. If your still getting this issue, uninstall and reinstall the game.

Good Luck! :D

Out of curiosity, when you say 'face mod', do you mean Shantia's, that has been previously reported as not being compatible with BE?

Hello!

Adding my experience with the newest patch and mods/mod manager 51:

I don't own Jaws of Hakkon so the freezing issues with the weapons and schematics don't apply to me.

Hair mods don't appear in BE (tried the human female bangs). I could activate all my mods with no problems (all daimods, older ones that were not in daimod format, also configurable ones)

Mods I used:

Spoiler

BE problem: I downloaded the realistic hair mod (not the shiny version) and it appeared to be working, but the game won't even load the Black Emporium if I try to visit it. Went back to a patch without the realistic hair mod and it worked again. Able to use the mirror and everything. This is the only mod that has caused this issue.

Also each time I do the testing I edit the package file to be the regular patch's version (version 8), don't know if that influences anything besides the save compatibility.

Hope a fix for the Jaws of Hakkon problems is figured out soon, Origin is having a promo code that affects dlc and that rarely happens so I'm seriously considering getting Jaws of Hakkon as well this weekend.

Also another interesting bit which I'm not sure why it affected things or if it was random: I could not play MP with a version 50 merged patch, but had no problems once I tried with a v51 one.
