 he looks... different..

He does look like he cares about his face even more now lol.  Eyeliner for commander!

===

ohohh lipstick don't forget about the lipstick !

@Shantia - Very nice!  For some reason his eyebrows really stand out...but gotta love the mole :D

Haha, the mole was the only good thing about that texture switch, I had to change it back quickly after watching the cutscene. I did change Cullens nose to be less red though, it always looked like he was freezing and I felt bad for him :)

He doesn't look bad, its just i guess for me i got used to his  beard :P and that's why he seems a bit different to me  without it, altho the tan suits him pretty nicely and the mole too ;)

@Kiitosu - Well that normally would be the case.  But I recall Eham saying something about how the resolution size ment a different format.  Like I think most 2048 were mentioned to be DXT5.

I'm familiar with normal maps, _msn, and such being DXT1.

I mainly suggested Adela to try a different format mainly for loading time purposes.  I would assume loading 4096 vs 2048 tex would have a difference in loading speed.

Like say you upgraded the skyhold castle tex to be high resolution,  I would assume with all the shadowing and lighting it would cause longer loading times ; p

I will put my 2 cents here, if you don't mind.

I guess DXT5 goes for textures with alpha channel, transparent textures, and DXT1 for textures without one.

in my PS i have the option to save the DXT1 with the alpha or without

I agree, but original Cullen is so much better :)

I have question, in the DAI Modding tool is it possible to export the texture? Because earlier I just ehem took a screenshot of the preview and ofcourse it lost some quality then. Or has anyone uploaded the textures somewhere?

Hmm I can't get it to work, I did all the steps downlaoded everything needed I open a .sb file, they show up in the list, but when I try to export it just says done right away but nothing is exported, and when I click on one of the items in the list it says:

CAT entry: not found!

Chunk Not Found!

You have to navigate to cas.cat file after you choose sb

You have to navigate to cas.cat file after you choose sb

I did that, under the data folder, next to the win32 folder. After I press it it says it has loaded it all.

Searching for Textures...done.
Loading cat file...done.
Searching cat for SHA1s...done.
Linking Textures and Chunks...done.
Finished!

Just for future reference guys, for those who want to change the inq skin/makeup/face in order not to take too much loading screen i found loading an old save doesn't take long , it takes about half a minute maybe, but don't go into CC 1st because that will take FOREVER!!!

After you view your new face texture in one of your old saves u can then exit out and go into CC and the loading time doesn't take that long.

i haven't tried changing the sikn/faces for the companions/advisers yet but will do so soon and let u guys know how to get "bypass" the forever loading screen

i will also post a guide line map for the fem human inq of how the eyes are and how u should apply makeup/eyebrows without looking weird once in game

man so jelly of all the people that are using Eha's tool to inject textures right now, i can't even get the thing to run.

so i've spent my time working in 3dmax on something since i can't use the tool  . far from finished but i'll be out of town for a couple of days so i thought what the heck, i'll just show you what i got so far since i wont be working on it while i'm away.

nHbyeit.jpg

did some quick temporary textures. it's based on the qunari concept but with my little twist on it. still a lot to do. model the straps on the chest and straps on the arms. and make some real textures of course. by the time i'm finished we may actually be able to import rigged meshes  :D . i'm planning to release it as a replacer for the under-armour and standalone equippable armour. well that's about it. have fun importing textures you lucky bastards.

Has anyone seen files that control the xp modifiers for characters. I've been looking for them because it seems really easy to over-level content. I'd like to find those files to reduce the xp by like a third, seriously.

I wrote the above in relation my Research tool, not the main set of tools, as for exporting textures, using DA_Tools.

1. Open Bundle Explorer

2. Open one of the .SB files. When prompted to locate your cas.cat (<DragonAgeInstall>\Data\cas.cat)

3. Search the bundles on the left hand side and the resources on the right hand side (Res tab) till you find a texture. There is a search option, if you hit find next, it will jump to the next texture.

4. With the texture selected. Go to Transfer -> Export Resource.

5. Save out DDS file and open in your favourite editing program.

Thank you!  That worked perfectly.  I appreciate your patience.  :D

I'm not sure if these have been brought up before, but does anyone have any information regarding the likelihood of:

1.  Getting unique NPC hairstyles on player characters.  Most notably, Morrigan's hair.  This has been easier than adding new hairs entirely in past games, so I hoped this would be a more realistic goal.

2.  Converting save files between platforms (PS4 to PC, PC to PS4, etc.).

3.  This one is more of a specific request, but I'd like to make an elf character, but have it look like a human.  Would it be possible to just edit the save file of a human character and replace values such that the character appears to be an elf to the game?

Well I am glad to see lots of people are having fun with the texture importing

sorry i just saw this ... so we cant post them on nexus for example?

I personally wouldn't for the moment, just because of the size, also the mods are packaged with your update files, which may differ to someone elses (If they are running a different language) so its not garunteed to be compatible

does that mean that players will need to update their game too to use the mods ?

No you shouldn't need to update, all I did was fix the code so if there are new entries in the patch files (Don't exist in the core files) they will be added too.

@Renmiri - *pours her another cup*  You and me both. *goes back to sipping on his*

@Chaos17 - Gonna need Ehams to answer that one.  I've actually been unable to mod without replacing my update files lol.

@Adela - Don't let me stop you m'lady.  Just make sure to warn people.

Silvist, you shouldn't need to replace your update files, the new patch should sit a long side the old one and it will override in game.

man im soo excited now!!! GONNA RETEXTURE EVERYTHINGGG!!! LOL its been a while since I've done retextures so im a lil rusty  but clearly i wont be sleeping tonight

Be careful with that, there are a lot of formats I still don't support just yet, ie. BC1S, Uncompressed RGB, etc. Eventually I will display the pixel format in the Texture Preview window, as well as do different rendering based on the pixel format so you can see how they look properly.

damn new face textures takes a whole lot to load... been on loading screen for 6 mins now...

Endless loads are still something you have to worry about, easiest way to see if it is endless loading is have a task manager open, if the Dragon Age process drops down to around 6% CPU usage with no HDD usage, then it has gotten stuck, still can't explain why it sometimes happens.

1. This will require mesh importing, as I have noticed that the unique characters hairs are not in the same position as all other hair, so it will not fit the player straight out.

2. Depending on what the save files have encoded in them, I dont epect to see that happen (But you never know)

3. I dont have an answer for this one.

Hallelujah finally got everything extracted. Now to try and re-texture those hideous skyhold jammies.

Also just out of curiosity do any of you think it will be possible at some point be to edit the shaders that are used for the different crafting materials in game? Would love to be able to use some of the better materials without my quizzies rocking a set of armour that's neon orange or pink...

OH I see yea i checked my CPU with no HDD usage and its not doing anything..  so yea i just closed it cause apparently it doesn't want to load, its fine tho, i found a lil "work around"  it works for me idk for anyone else and that is to load one of your old saves and by old i mean ur 1st PT where you are still in the prologue  and after that go to the CC and it works fine without too much loading screen..

Ah ok so no uploading data because it might defer from someone else's game via language and whatnot.. got it :) thank you so much for the update :)

______________________________________________________________________________

Also for those who are interested for the guide lines of the fem human inq face i made a color code map.. hope it will help you guys.. i spent a lot of time trying to get this right and not to look weird.. also pls keep note that the lines are a bit swiggely or how u spell it :P and that the head is NOT mirrored so you will have to adjust your makeup on the other eye accordingly , use layers and transparency to see what your doing

it should give you a rough idea of where everything is.. the brows are the most difficult part imo because since they are not a separate geometry they tend to streach near the bridge of the nose if you get them too close  so be careful

Eventually you'll be able to edit the material parameters, but not the shaders themselves, since they are completely compiled away.

Only use DXT1 or DXT5 formats for now, as they are the only two supported.
