Great work...but not sure if porting DAI stuff into DAO is wise. The devs haven't really given us permission to do so.

Finally! The eyebrows and skin look decent now, so I made my first human female, I am quite happy with her.

Well modding a single game is one thing but porting assets across different games is another. Bethesda for example is firmly against that even though they are one of the most mod friendly devs out there.

Bioware has given permission for us to port DA2 stuff to DAO, IDK whether that holds for DAI. But I'm sure they're fine with us modding the SP part of the game like ME3.

A lot has happened here since the last time I could check the thread, damn... Time to bury my head inside this tool and start to edit textures, oh yeah. Make some really nice playlist, couple bottles of wine, whenever I get something nice I will post here, but before:

So I can confirm that every edited face texture results in a black face.  I can import existing faces but any time I save my own, this occurs.  I have tried mip maps, no mip maps, alphas, no alphas, dxt1, dxt5.  I am at a loss about what else to attempt to resolve this issue.  I don't want to give up but I don't see any solution.   :(

 

Does anybody have any ideas?

 

Can somebody send me an edited face file so that I can see if that will work for me?  That could at least tell me if it is a system problem or a file format problem.

Thank you very much.  So it does work for me.  I think that confirms that there is something wrong with the way I am saving my files.  I'm not sure what though.

Just been reading this group obsessively for awhile, because while I have done some rudimentary modding in Skyrim, I definitely don't have the tech skills to be of help currently, but it's fascinating to see y'all work, and very exciting. 

 

However, I did try the black jammies thing, and figured I'd report in that it worked wonderfully.

then it did a lot of popping, but stayed completely black for the cut scene, shrug. 

 

right now I'm having to run my game on the lowest of low settings and windowed because my graphics card broke and i haven't replaced it yet, so it's on Intel HD integrated graphics, so I am assuming this is due to that because texture loading in general on these settings is always a fun adventure.

lol ya, I had technicolor pants like that. And my cutscene never loaded. Bah! I soo wanted to see Solas in a new stilish outfit.. :P

So I am using the settings...

 

Save Alpha Channels

2D Texture

Are those correct?  Is there anything else I need to set?

 

You shouldn't need to fiddle with the dds export settings, keep them default. You also need to generate new mip maps, don't use the existing ones.(otherwise you'll see the unmodified texture at a distance)

 
I'm not sure what the problem could be, but off the top of my head:
 
CC diffuses have alphas (so need to be saved in DXT5 with mipmaps) while most unique npc diffuses are DXT1 (no alpha with mipmaps)
 
I can't imagine the game would react well to getting the compressions mixed up, so maybe that's causing the black faces? 
 
What I mean is, if you're replacing a cc diffuse make absolutely sure it's DXT5 and that the alpha channel isn't empty. On the other hand, if you are, say, attempting to replace Josie's diffuse, make sure it's DXT1, no alpha.
