How did you fix it exactly?
The only change I made was that I realized in my first attempt, I hadn't merged all the layers before I exported to dds. No idea if that was what caused it for me, or if just the second try worked.

I do have another question. I know it's pretty newbie and people have been answering questions about locating textures already, so I apologize...I'm not trying to waste anyone's time, I'm just still confused.
But please feel free to ignore me, haha, I know you guys are busy.
I am just confused about hair textures. So are they different from the "head" texture? I can't seem to find a hair texture for BW (looked in the main folder, the party folder, the other random ones mentioned, and all the Fereldan wilderness files esp his acquisition quest..) but if I edit the blackwall_head texture, it doesn't change the hair, just the skin around it...and it would make sense to me that there's a separate texture for that...so I suppose if someone can just confirm for me that there SHOULD be a Blackwall hair texture, I can keep looking for it, I guess I jut want to be sure that's what I'm looking for since this is all so new to me. (I mostly did quest scripting and level building with pre-existing assets before, so this is my first time really messing with creating and altering assets)

@Veeia - You can find the hair textures in:
da3\actors\baseheads\hair\textures
I'm not exactly sure what sb/toc these are located in, due to having all of the game files dumped completely to my hard drive. They should be named like: hair_faded_straight_d.dds, hair_full_wavy_d.dds, and so on. Just so you know I had to use the diffused..aka _d as a transparency to get the white to disappear. The eyebrows are the same as well.
From what I can see blackwall has his own mesh for hair, but not his own texture. I'm still not even sure what texture is used, due to not having a pathing to find out. But I'm guessing he uses one of the ones I listed above.

Anyway, does anyone know where I'd need to look for the text of war table missions? Is this currently known? I've been poking around for a couple of hours but not found anything yet.
Aha! It's in loctext/en.sb, which should've been the first place I looked.

I'm trying out a makeup texture; what colors should I use? I mean, if I want black eyeshadow, I don't use black, do I? :/

@Joyce - Yea, the head and body are shared with humans. Not really sure why, but yea.. lol.

So if I want to make a skin/makeup texture for a female elf, I have to do it on a female human texture?

@Joyce - There is no female elf texture, so ya you would have to use the human as a base. I found this out while toying with npc textures, like swapping Dorian's texture to Solas. Or swapping Leliana's head texture to be used with Sera. So there is no separate texture, not really sure why.
Dwarves, Qunari, and Human are the only racial head textures.
@Kiitosu - I used your render setup to produce this:
Sadly, the fur didn't render properly. As you can see in the shot out of render:

I also couldn't change the darn resolution output size of the render, even though i swore I had it set to 1920x1080.
So, I extract HF face texture and import it in the same place and it will still show up if I play with an elf?

@Joyce - I haven't tested something like that yet, but I assume that's how it should work. The only issue is your texture will effect human heads as well. Which is one reason it sucks they didn't divide them.
But, not to worry once we can add custom standalone textures and meshes we should be able to fix it.

I always play as a female elf, so that'll be no problem ![]()

Has anyone been able to find the ability icons? I've been looking for an hour with no luck.

They should be in UI.toc/sb.

Hi again!
Ok, is anybody writing tutorials? It’d be nice if someone else did it of course, but…
The thread format is just not great for introductory stuff.
IF there are no tutorials in the works, then I was wondering if someone(s) might be available to do kind of a Q&A-based version that could be drawn up into a document? Basically me and/or somebody else asking step-by-steps (and hopefully some useful questions) on topics of A) adding a mod into one’s game and
creating a mod of some kind, swapping a color for example.
Would require hopefully not too much time, but some certainly, at least for part B.

Oo excellent, thanks! Might it be possible to link that up to the Group front page?
Or is it there already and this graphical glitch is preventing me from seeing it?

Do opacity and diffuse match up?
Can't say where the problem is without seeing it with my eyes
