im assuming you want the normal bump settings? Or all of them?

yeah, normal please

@Silvist, you're using bump as bitmap, just like me, there is no problem with it, but body has not detail.

using bump as normal bump will give abs/ etc. But settings have to be adjusted a lot to have no seams.

@Silvist, you haven't really "applied" the normal map and it doesnt see it that way.. with the new versions of max is a bit diffrent  in order to do so you will have to click on the normal map outlet  and then standard and then normal bump then  you will have to plug in your normal map and increase the value

@Adela - See my previous post, I updated it.  I will also try what you suggest, because you are my Mentor :D.  (Don't worry you are too Kiitosu :D)

Is your screen shot of blinn?  Cause mine is of m-ray arch&design.  Or does it work the same?

Alright here's a screen shot of what I'm asking:

So you're saying change this?

Spoiler

Is this the dialogue you mean?

Spoiler

To be like this?  Also how do I assign the normal at this point, because it doesn't have any popups to add.

@Adela - Oh okay, so normal map > bit map.  I got'cha.  That's wild, I still have so much to learn for assigning stuff properly lol.

I see for diffuse you did color correction > bit map.  I never realized that part mattered.  I just figured it was some template it wanted me to select from.  So i just choose whatever brought me to the file search the fastest lol.

I'm going to try and apply this to the armor as well.  I still couldn't get the fur to come out right.  I had a _b texture, which I'm not familiar with.  I had to flip the mono channel output from rgb to alpha for it to show up correctly.

What would you use for an armor diffuse texture?

@Silvist  we live and we learn :) heck i bet there is stuff that i don't know about and probably you guys  do, so this is why im glad that Renmiri1 invited me to this group, its fun to share ideas and techniques :) thats how we get better ;)

i only applied the color correction to see if i can make the body skin ton come close to Cullen's head but that didn't really help ether sadly .. its just some weird issue with the normal map ...

it has to do something with the way it saved, did you guys have to resave the normal? i could not use original file so i had to open and resave it. Now i am trying different options to save, seams gone but body details are too flat.

yea i had the same issue i had to resave it either as TGA or PNG  max would not load the dds file... granted i did extract the textures and everything using Eham's old tool  with command prompt idk if using the new tool will fix that problem?  But yea i agree  the normal map does seem flat.. altho i tried to increase the contrast but still not that much luck....

I see you are all hard at work! Nice to follow your progress.

I myself have been busy making a head texture that I like, and I think that I am finally happy :D

Spoiler

This looks great!

Can we swap out normal maps for face textures yet? I want custom eyebrows for my male Inquisitor but if I don't change the normals they will look flat and crap (with women you can get away with it as the hair is much finer). Does anyone know what format we would have to save the normal in?

Also does changing the first face texture change all the NPCs too? I don't really want them running around with two sets of eyebrows if I can help it.

Thank you!

I've changed the normal on mine, the specular too, I've only run in to one other npc having that texture, it was the elf servant you meet when you wake up in Haven.

Yes, new ver : 45 allow audio exploring : http://daitools.free...c.php?f=3&t=140

Multiplayer has different files, but thanks  .

I did not know that would matter anyways.

That's good to know.

The normals I extracted through DAI Tool look a bit flat too. The colour range seems small. If you play with the levels in Photoshop, you can get the normals to pop more, but you would have to duplicate it any ajoining normal to avoid seams (also "normalize only" with Nvidia tools.)

You can change intensity in 3ds max, the problem is to get it saved properly.

The best i could get so far-

wow thats great u actually managed to get detail on the torso , what do u mean by saving it properly tho... as a dds? or in another format?

also by intensity do u mean color correction or the value of the bump map

That looks quite good but I'm pretty sure the normals aren't extracting in the correct format yet. With ME3 they had to be in a specific V8U8 format to work correctly in game. I tried opening the normals that the DAI Tools extracts to look at the surface format in DirectX Texture Tool but it won't even open them.

ETA: Why the censorship? There's not any junk on display is there?

What I mean is you can correct the normals to look good in 3DSMax to get some sexy renders but I'm worried about getting normals to work properly in game.

Yeah, when you save as dds, window will pop up there are loads of ways to save, and some options under -normal map settings- change a lot in 3ds max

oitzEd7.png

If i had idea what they do, i've been randomly changing them for a while now, resaving and rendering in 3ds max ._. the options you see above are the best ( showed on previous render ) but i dont like that there are still some seams visible. I am lost.

YES. Thats what i'm worried about too. Totally agree.

But for now it's kinda problematic to get it properly saved for 3ds max :( importing them back in DA:I is another problem that will happen later lol
