Lol, being watched..talk about late coming to the party. I couldn't have thrown any more info out there on popular sites, not my fault people disbelieved me despite the raw unbiased information I provided.
But they were under the general consensus frostbite 3 was unmoddable, due to some retarded post DICE made for BF3. I could find the article, but an actual expert call their bluff and basically said "It is moddable..why are you claiming it isn't?". DICE apparently then changed their statement to something else, completely taking back the fact it was unmoddable.
Yet all you could see all over the net by googling "Dragon age Inquisition Modding" was people talking about how it was impossible. So its the bioware's fan community fault for convincing itself that this was not possible, without having actual facts to back up this basis.
Its just as bad as a person who has never modded telling a modder what he/she should and shouldn't be doing.
Their article is even off by only showing the date of when Renmiri posted the tools up there. This has been a WIP since Renmiri started this group aka Nov 30..not dec 19.
Sadly Ehamloptiran's screen shots aren't very explanatory in what he actually achieved with them. They don't realize the HUGE books on that screen shot is a "mesh" replacement. Just like people don't realize the checkers on Cullen is a "texture" replacement. Also the Nug is another example of people not understanding what's being achieved here.
If you don't understand or know something, please don't a be a fool and act like you do. Its better to be honest and admit your lack of knowledge, then filling it up with nonsense.
Honestly the team (mainly VW and Ehamloptiran) that's doing DAITools could always use a lot more help. The speed in which things are being released is based on that. So if you guys want to see major progress you might want to spread the word that we need more people. People who understand the things that VW and Eham are working with on daitools.freeforums.org (basically coders or people who can decipher code). VW and Eham could probably talk about the specifics.
They have a good list of what needs to be done, but again its only a couple people working on that. There's quite a bit of mods people want to be able to create, but we gotta get the tools to do it made first. They also have to be tested, and tested, and tested till we can sort out of all of the bugs and discrepancies. Most modders who have joined us here, have basically become the testers.
Edit:
Speaking of which, the new sound explorer is so bad ass. Sadly I can't get music to work with it..but I got dialogue working now
@Renmiri - I just noticed you been posting on the pcgamer page lol, careful now ;p
Well, can anybody do the testing? As I said I use mods, not make them, and I do not make much sense of half of this thread, aside from learning how I oblivious I was towards the work behind a mod. Although I think that says a lot about how much I actually know...
Hah, I came here knowing nothing as well. Took me 3 days to figure out how to use the DAI tool to export and finding whatever file I need, 2 days figuring out how to use Autodesk Maya, and 1 day figuring out the other DA tool. So I came here with only knowledge of photoshop and a really strong urge to change certain things. Thankfully I'm on winter break. The tutorials aren't detailed on what to do but you can ask whatever in this discussion board.
@abspenst - Yes, of course anyone can test it. That's why the tools are available for download. Otherwise, they wouldn't be and testing would be done in house. Though, this is all fan created, so even more reason its open to anyone.
I didn't know anything about modding either when I first started, it just takes patience and basic computer knowledge.
Though, the more you know the easier it is. Everyone has their one style for learning, like myself I can't learn everything from just watching a video. I have to do it myself in order to figure out how it works, and learn.
@Rabbitonfire - I've been through this exact sequence before with modding aka no tool and progression from the start. The only difference here is this engine hasn't been messed with alot outside previous games that have used it. So that's really what's making progress the speed its currently at. That plus the limited amount of people working on the tools.
I was lucky this time around with my pc cause it was made to overkill prior games. Sadly I can't run everything on ultra, due to either pc optimization or just lack of using all my hardware. Though, I use my desktop for alot more than just gaming, such as 3d art so I'm required to have a strong gpu.
I have been suppressing that particular urge ever since that glorified Mao suit in cosmic latte.
Alright then. Thank you both, I'll have a go at it.
@Silvist: Man, I like video tutorials because they hold your hand the entire process. But yeah, if you want the knowledge to stick, gotta do it yourself even though its time consuming as heck.
Also, right now I can't think of a name for when I publish my altercations. Names are hard. Especially when the change is not dramatic enough to have like "ultimate" or "improved". Gotta be confident to claim that kind of label.
@Rabbitonfire - Lol, isn't that the truth. It takes me longer to create a character name than actually make a character with sliders in any game. I sometime will scrap a character simply because I dislike how the name turns out. In the end I come up with good favorites that stick with me.
In terms of video tutorials...dont' get me wrong..I still use them. Its just sometimes they don't go over "everything". Like they miss minor steps, that could be very important. Just alot of people seem to be under the assumption to learn something "go watch a video". Which doesn't work for everyone.
@Silvist: That is true. If you have something different from what the video OP then you are screwed, mildly or severe.
I looked up nexus and noticed that the only category is miscellaneous. If they eventually add more, can you edit your mod post's category?
@Rabbitonfire - Hmm, let me check. I haven't even messed with the nexus in a bit...cause the community kinda burned me out lol.
Edit:
Seems your right, i only see 1 category. Go nexus moderators! Way to make the site usable lol. You could probably send a message to the mods to add more categories..unless they only plan to when there is more mods.
I asked them to add modding tools category for us
For now I think the yare more on the "wait and see" mode and will not add anything if there is just one mod for the category
Although you can already see that 99% of the "mods" there are savegames
I figured as much, man the nexus has changed in the years I've been a member. I miss the good ole oblivion nexus days ;p
@Renmiri - Are you able to hear music with WV sound tool?
Is there a way to have a before/after ingame cutscene with screenshots or do I need to use a video editor?
edit: Here's a test file for my Solas alteration. If anyone wants to see it.

the new texture tool, eham will have to add import as I cant test that, sry^^
greetz WV
using voiders new tool I found mild spoilers

Trying to get a mod with the PJs. Replaced it succcessfully, although the game wouldn't start and I had to repair the game :S is this the part where you have to make a second patch file and yadda yadda? :S

You shouldn't need to repair your game, as the patching process should not replace any existing files, if you are replacing files, ur doing something wrong. The idea is to generate a patch, and place it along side the official patch under a different folder ie. Patch2

So I need to create a patch file alongside the original patch file?
Edit; is this the way it should look?

Tried to see if I could get Adela's files to work for a new game - once I moved cas_01.cas into patch2 > Data, instead of patch2 > Data > patch2 > Data, the game at least opened. After I selected my race and class and default world state though, I got a regular loading screen then... it just sat on a black loading screen forever.
I will figure this out damn it...

does Adela have that eyebrow texture for download somewhere?
I would love to test it on my elf ![]()

yes
yes
great
let's see if this works...
Edit: And it didn't ![]()
Adela has put some of her stuff out? Oooo
I wonder how you change character's eyes. It's not a simple texture replacement for sure.
Ok.. I think of calling my mod "Softer Solas" but is his look really softer?? Because I kept his face hairs so I couldn't say completely soft. Like I say it's close-ish to his concept but not completely. Can't call him egg anything because he's no more or less eggy. How do you deal with this struggle of names?!
