If you do have some connections, see if you can get them to make a folder in this DAI Forum for fan mods. I love this group but it is not very visible. Mass Effect 3 had a whole folder for modders and fan creations such as fan art :)

And ya ofc someone has already cracked and reversed engineered the whole EXE file but that only tells you part of the story. Besides, our aim here is to work with the game and with Bioware not against them :)

Please can anyone make a video how to use this tool to extract armor?

You need to download Eh's tools then use his DAIExtract on a ".toc" file then use his mesh extract on the resulting res folder.

If the above instructions are too complex for you then you need to do some homework first. We would like to help all but we are all busy so hand holding will have to wait. Best for you to learn to do it yourself. Or wait till some kind soul has time to do a youtube video on the process.

So the exe does block modding?

Nope and that is why cracking it doesn't help modding much. It did help write the file viewers though

You could start by thanking the modders, you know ?

Just being "me,me, me, do what I want" and not bothering to thank the people working hard on the tools is not very nice.

Hows ur armor reshaping going Silvist? Did you do any new ones? also for reshaping do u use the FFD modifier or just soft selection?

@Adela - I was at class actually, and doing good ole hw >.<.  I'll probably crank some new ones out later, just gotta find something I like.  What is the FFD modifier?

I typically always use soft selection, and if the mesh is low verts, I will use msmooth once I got it all lined up.  Makes it easier to form, and works wonders for weight painting.

Again, all of what I do is self taught, so there's loads of tools I'm not even aware of lol.

Bout the only modifiers I've played with are smooth (for exporting), and uv mapping.  Oh nearly forgot skinwrap, and bsdismemberingskin.

FFD = Free Form Deformation  i find it easier to use then soft selection

@Adela - Interesting,  I've used two different deforms before.  One was near the bottom of the poly.  I think it was face deformation.   The other was where you select a target and deform to the target.  It had to be lined up well or verts could jump all over the place.  Maybe that was the conform tool.

I just know they were much easier than moving verts one by one lol.

Huh,  So a bit of both.

And I"m totally not a modder. Most I've done is switch a few textures and models around.  You guys are awesome.

I reposted it to me3 Renmiri.  I haven't looked through it myself.

All I know is modding is not the same as hacking.   Hacking is using hard coded values, forcing something to have a exact output.

Modifying is changing values without interfering with the code.  Hacking can cause issues because you are essentially forcing values, and not letting the code work as intended.  Blame Hollywood for making hacking into something it is not.

Let me take a look, now that I have some free time.

Spoiler

I looked through some of the thread, but there's quite a bit of pages.  I haven't seen proof they've been able to actually put something into the game.  Not saying they haven't, just haven't seen actually evidence.

Most of the posts there are straight out just people asking for cheats.  Like one guy wanted the dlc to be unlocked for him, since he doesn't have it.  There's two posters I've seen that seem to know what they are talking about.  But again, throwing "I plan to hack this to allow us to add mods", is just being said to appease the masses of people on the thread .  Until I see facts to back that up, its just a means of generating popularity.

Since most the people there have no idea what is actually being done and are more interested with results than information.

I've been aware of that threat ever since they found a way to unlock the zoom.  That generated so much popularity, the thread went from like 10 posts to like 70.  If you google DA:I mods, or check reddit, that's mainly the over talked about "current mod".

I shouldn't have found this group. I really shouldn't but dang. I do a lot of armor fitting/converting (and hair, texture blending, what have you) for Skyrim. I don't have the room to extract the models from DAI (I have about 200 gigs of mods, models, and such for Skyrim alone. I need another drive at this point for models and modding.) but if someone has an fbx or whatever of the player race/genders and I dunno the npcs I would gladly refit hair and models.

Though such low polys for hair makes me sad. I mean Skyrim didn't blow up with 20k+ poly hair. Though I guess if you are making the hair from scratch it wouldn't matter all that much. Actually making new/different bodies for the races would be fun. I have a friend who made an extremely customizable body for Skyrim (It's called Unibody you can pretty much make any shape you want.) at least would be fun.

Or at least make some better textured formal wear.

I'm not sure, I just know you have to use a cheat engine to make any of this work.  They either have separate ones, every time its updated.  Or different cheat engines.  I'm not sure, I don't use any of that kind of stuff lol.

@Veritrix - We are still waiting for Eham to make a fbx converter.  The dump of the game isn't actually that big.  Its about 30 gb.

I randomly pulled up a hair file of Sera, and its about 4k verts.  I can't remember how many verts hair like Apachii's is, or what the frostbite 3 limitation on poly/verts is.  I can tell you though I'm posting updated info on an exclusive forum where most of the most widely known oblivion/skyrim/fallout modders hang out.  Many of them are very interested in this progress, and would probably port their work over.

In terms of the body, I'm considering porting over CBBE, UNP, something better than the crap DA:I currently has.  It would also making porting much easier lol.

The biggest challenge will be making the neckline up (though no weight sizes!).  The skin texture is also atrocious, so porting Zzjay/Caliente/etc (tons out there) tex would be nice as well.

Also the base model uses almost the same pose as skyrim, no t-pose!

@Adela - I'm going to try this FFD tool right now to see how it works ;p

Spoiler

Well that was pretty easy to line up, now to try the tool.

K so I'm seeing like 4 different FFD modifiers.  Like box, cylinder, 2x2x2, 3x3x3, and 4x4x4.  Guess I'll mess with it.  I assume you grab the one close to the object?

I got a nice linux 3d posing software "makehuman". I was playing with it and Solas smexy mesh at work, but had to swap screens fast because boss was coming :P Even though it's after hours, would be embarrassing  to have him finding me playing with a naked elf

@Renmiri - Its the Tera Viridinium armor.  I'm glad you like it.  It caught my eye, so I'm going to play a bit with it.

Rofl, yea that would be embarrassing.

@Adela - so I was playing with FFD(cyd), and the only visual difference was by tension and continuity values.  Is there anything else?  What do I do once I'm happy with the adjustments?

I also see a conform to shape, but its grayed out.  I also see these little boxes on this "lattice" outline.  I moved them, but didn't notice a difference.

Oh when I drop down the +, i see control points, lattice, set volume.

Ah there, when I clicked on the control points, and the little light I'm seeing real time updates of what it does now.  Still wondering why the conform is grayed out lol.

Awesome check out the order in which Eham is doing things:

Spoiler

@Adela - this is essentially the deform I use.  Especially if I want it to fit like a glove:

Here's more progress with one part.  Its not done yet, still has to be fit better lol.  But that's from me manually moving verts with soft selection.

Spoiler

This is a good amount of verts to work with, makes it easy.  With less than 1k, its painful on a size like this.

Spoiler

Spoiler

Just using the red to indicate one how large the armor is at the wrist compared to the wirst, I don't like that sizing.  Some people are fine with it, but I prefer it to be skin tight.  The leg below is just a spot I missed ;p  Also I don't use poly selection mode to move stuff, lol.  I learned the hard way on that on my early modding days.

in order to deform with the FFD in the modifier box click on the ffd modifier and then you will have a lil dropdown and then click on control points in order to move the verts

the reason why  conform to shape is grayed out its cause it already checked

3dgM0VV.png

Nice video I tried to use that tool and it never works for me every time i pic a mesh it doesnt conform to it at all and i tried all kinds of values .... so i gave up on that tool
