@Joyce - Since DAI uses various texture files between races and genders in a messy way, there's no way to be safe about the texture being only for the Inquisitor. I think the way to avoid most conflicts is by editing only the textures found in da3/actors/basehead/inquisitor , even then is not guarantee.

 

I made the t and s files by editing rgb channels one by one, is a bit tricky but you can just open one original t or s file and take a look of how the elements are spread between the channels, then try to do more or less the same (is how I learned to make mines).

 

@Renmiri - s textures do work Renmiri, thats how I got my pajamas looking like that, otherwise would have the light/shine/shadows of the original pajamas and you would can see the original shape like a plastic layer covering my texture.

not really sure the s files replacement works. The tool can't even read them, they have instructions for shaders on it.

 

The T files  will put a "mask" to read your difuse

no, I mean, how do I make them :)

I have all versions and you can use older versions for your own game but you won't be able to post mods for others

And you have to be really careful with saving the DDS or you can get UI problems

The alpha layer gets ignored by the engine, they use shaders instead

 

From what I can tell the alpha channel inskin textures controls the intensity of the skin colour (the shader on the mesh). The darker the grey/black on the alpha, the more the skin tone shines though. It's why the lips on the alpha are white, to allow the pink of the diffuse to be visible. I did some tests with black streaks and white streaks on the diff alpha and the black comes out as dark orange whereas white comes off as pink.

Thanks for the reply, Kamael! I still feel like most of this is just way over my head, but I am determined to try.

 

Truth is, I have no idea if I'm even going about this the right way. For the texture, I painted over the d file, but there is also an s and an n file that I really have no idea what to do with. In Daz, there would be a diffuse, a bump, and a transparency file. Are these the same thing? Can I copy and paste my texture over the other files?

 

I apologize for the number of questions. I don't expect handholding, if someone could point me in the direction of a tutorial, it would be greatly appreciated.

well i would like to post mods for others.. but the new tool doesn't work for me.. not much i can do about that.. my only option is to use the old one... as for the dds stuff with the old one i never had any problems with the UI

I deleted it.. but i still don't get the window where it asks u to direct it to the DAI exe path.. :( sorry for being such a pain... im just trying to make this work

@Adela - Lol, well its not from scratch like the one you made.  I'm thinking about making one from scratch, but I'm hesitant because hopefully we'll get some better body meshes.  I'm still shocked at how the meshes are mirrored..cause nobody is that perfect in real life lol.

 

But all jokes aside the base body was extremely disappointing to me, not for obvious reasons.  Hopefully we'll get a better high poly one, that will make weight painting alot easier.  I've found that low poly meshes are really a pain to weight paint on when physics is involved.  Not because its difficult...but because of how the mesh interacts with low polys.  Like if you were trying to get robes to move like fabric..a low poly mesh would look like crap compared a high poly one because of how it would move.  (basically high poly looks more real ;p)

 

The only thing that worries me is how to divide the armor up.  Like, I'm sure you could just make the armor have no slots for arms/legs..but that could take the fun away from crafting and upgrades.  Though, disassembling the armor to be broken up like the existing armors in game, and replicating that would be a pain.

 

Though, I can't wait to play with how crafting custom armors will work..like if you can actually change the colors based on the mats used (with the shaders i'm thinking).  I'm just patiently awaiting my time till that's possible ;p

Well mirrored meshes has its advantages, less time consuming and u can mirror the weights when skinning  instead of doing it manually one by one, so in a way it kinda makes sense in why they did it

Yea i was thinking about that too,  personally i dont think i will go through that trouble i think i will just leave them uncrafteble  cause it might be a pain in the arse  if you would try it to make it so, i will just make different variations of them instead lol

 

you should def try making some from scratch, its worth a shot even if at 1st it doesn't look like what u had in mind, with more tweaking u will get there, Im also wondering that if we were to make custom heads and bodies from scratch how much of a pain  would that be to implement in game.. cause i don't want the inq to have to share the same skin texture with everyone else

You can find the face textures at da3/actors/baseheads  anything ending in _d.dds is a diffuse map. The way that face textures works in this game is weird, they are mixed up between genders and races; for example some male face textures use female files, so in order to get a texture done you will probably have to extract both human male and female textures and test with them.

 

If i undesrtand coorect if i need to change human male INQ texture it might be any male or female human texture NOT inq?

Renmiri is correct, you cannot use an older version of the tool and make mods for other people, as it will corrupt their game. So please whatever you do, do not release anything you do on older versions of the tool, this is why I replace them when I release, to reduce the number of people having access to these older tools.
