So I'm trying to find the missing patrol in the Hissing Wastes, but the guy I think I'm supposed to talk to (a guy by a campfire named Hunter) disappeared when some spiders came along and I can't get him to come back. Anyone else have this problem, or am I supposed to be looking for something else? I've been around and around that purple area and I haven't found anything else, except for some Venatori fighting spiders, but they also disappeared when more spiders came.

The hunter is irrelevant, although you can talk to him to start another quest if you haven't already. To finish the quest you need to kill the spiders where all the corpses are and what you find there.

Yeah, I left something in the chest there. You have to take everything out of it to complete the quest.
