So I have a makeup question that I don't have anyone else to ask or will ask to save embarrassment. I am not sure where to start I don't understand any of it except I don't know how it works. I got lucky with my female human but my female elf is just plain ugly. Is there a basic set of rules when it comes to female makeup application? Is eye liner suppose to match eye color or hair color? Anyone want to make some money and just create a pretty face for me...i fail so much with the CC.

Well...I guess the best advice I can give (as a male) is to find pictures of women wearing makeup that you find attractive and examining how it's actually arranged and colored. For instance, I'm not one for blush on my women or female characters, but a touch of lipstick and eye shadow can be very attractive. In general, I like a light pinkish/flesh lipstick with very low gloss (maybe setting 2 or 3), which a black lip liner setting. This subtle light-dark lip coloring makes the lips pop, even if they're thin. As for eye makeup, I tend to leave off the underbrow and undereye shading, and instead go for a fairly dark eye liner/shadow.
Here's an example of the end result on my two female characters:

And in-game:

But note what happens if I add undereye makeup in the second character:

The secret I've found with this game anyway is that you don't want the intensity to ever be cranked up all the way. Bring it down about half, or even less, otherwise it will look like your character is wearing chalk on their face.
Also as far as eye makeup, the screenshots above are a good example that it's probably best/easiest to just stick with black. It gives a good smokey eye look without having to worry about whether your blue eye shadow will look ridiculous in some lighting or not.

Yeah, actually Ailith's comment made me think of something else: in-game lighting washes out skin color, making it whiter than you selected in the CC (it's the result of natural vs. studio lighting). So bright makeup will jump out on the washed out face in-game. So as Ailith said, choose your makeup colors carefully. You'll also want to choose a touch darker skin-tone than you would think, or else your character's face will look white. Compare my second and third screenshots above. I should actually go back and darken that character's skin in my next build of her face.

One really basic makeup tip is that if you're going to do a smoky eye, then go really pale with the lips. Crank the intensity way down and just go with some shine. Likewise for the lips. If you're going to go with a lip color, it's best to go really light on the intensity for everything on the eyes. Having both lipstick and eye makeup is overpowering, unless you're a supermodel on a catwalk. My suggestion would be to go with eyes though, since finding a lip color that doesn't look like chalk in-game is difficult.
And to echo Ailith, you might not even want to bother with blush, or at least have the intensity barely up from the bottom. And yes, black for eyeliner/shadow unless you're going for a punk look. Neutral tones are best and easiest to make work.

Woman here and i'm pretty clueless with makeup, don't worry. ![]()
I only use black on eyes anyway and i totally agree on always using black color. I don't bother with blush and lipliner tbh.
Here's my human quisitrix

oh and Aleithian, interesting thread about the facial proportions.

Ok so slightly darker skin tone than what I see in CC and black eye shadow but don't bother with the lower eye got it. I will check out your other thread because makeup isn't the only issue I have in creating a face. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

For a glamorous look go for deeper and unnatural colors of eyeshadows (purple, blue, black) but make sure to make the intensity fairly low so it looks blended (kind of airbrushed look) rather than like paint. For the under brow do a very light shade (silver, white, very pale pink or on dark skin gold) mess with the intensity here too, you want it to look highlighted under the brow but not like an opaque line. Make the eyeliner black and have the intensity all the way up, make the eyelashes black as well. For the blush, go fire engine red for pale skin and make the intensity very weak at only 1 or two ticks (darker skin skip the blush or use gold to highlight but keep it weak). Keep the lips either matching/slightly darker than the base skintone (if you did very intense eyes) or somewhere in the spectrum of red/pink/purple (intensity about halfway, maybe less) lipliner needs to be the same color as the lips or a bit darker.
For a more natural look (and this can work for male characters as well to give a more alive looking face), do the same blush as above but for the rest: eyelashes should be darker than the hair and eyebrow color but not jet black (unless you're combining looks) for example: platinum blonde hair with light-medium brown eyelashes the eyeshadow should be either subtle pink for pale skin, gold-ish for dark skin, and dull purple-ish for extremely dark skin or a darker shade of the skintone (works for any skintone). Don't bother with under brow or under eye.
I hope that made sense, I got a little rambly >_<

I actually did a dark brown liner/shadow combo with red lips. I wasn't happy with the black smoky eye, so I went a little more colourful.

I think it makes her blue eyes pop.

I'm going to put forth the crazy idea that maybe you don't need said make up for said female to be attractive. <cough>
I will also put forth the crazier idea that maybe someone wrestling with the cancellation of the apocalypse might not have the time nor inclination to worry about blush while spending countless hours wandering the wilderness elbow deep in demons and bears ( always the god damn bears. ). >.>
Finally, I will put forth the craziest idea that this is why Solas is 100% bald. The time and effort required to maintain his formerly magnificent mane of bishi hair simply wasn't compatible with wandering the wilderness sleeping in ruins all the time. Eventually the dry, split ends drove him to the edge and just went ")@@# it!" and shaved his head.

Of course make-up isn't necessary, but it is fun to play around with. I'll put for the idea that it takes me less than 30 seconds to put on eyeliner and gloss.
Also, wouldn't Solas then have stubble?

Black liner or shadow is generally a safe bet, however CaptivatingKS makes a really good point with the female inquisitor and her blue eyes/brown eyeshadow. Generally speaking, if you want your eye colour to look brighter or 'pop' then you should wear liner or shadow that is opposite your eye colour (when I say opposite, I'm speaking opposite on the colour wheel)
For example:

If you look only at the Tone or Shade part of this particular colour wheel, you can see that blue and brown are directly opposite of each other. So with that logic in mind and if your goal is to go for a more colourful eyeshadow/liner, I would suggest choosing the colour opposite on the colour wheel to that of your inquisitor's eye colour. Also, go for the darker 'version' of the colour (Tone or Shade on this colour wheel) and then turn down the intensity to about half way to avoid your makeup looking like clown makeup.
If you feel like trying blush, have the intensity turned down about 3/4 of the way and choose a colour that is in the pinks/reds/browns family (purple works well for Qunari). Take into account the undertone colour of your skin and choose a colour that is only slightly darker than your skin tone. Blush is tricky though, and generally not necessary.
Lipstick is (I think) the easiest choice and just depends on the look you're going for. If you want your character to look more natural choose a colour that is closer, but slightly darker than your skin tone. Otherwise pick whatever colour you think is pretty. Also, I would consider turning the lip shine all the way down because in many scenes the lighting glares off of your characters lips so much that even if you only have a little bit of lip shine, it looks like you've wrapped your lips in tinfoil.
Sorry for the long post, but hopefully this helps ![]()

There's something really weird about qunari make-up. I have excessive amounts of eyeshadow even on the first option.
It's either excessive or non-existant. Like raccoon circles of gold around her eyes!

Oh man, I spent so long on colours... For some reason black and plum are not creatable on my system. I tried for hours (12 rerolls) to get Morrigan's lip colour, which never ended up happening.

I had the same problem with mine. I had to reroll my qunari because the eyeshadow was so intense she kind of looked like a hooker, not to mention her lips were so glossy they were blinding in direct sunlight

That's really unfortunate. I've noticed that it seems like the saturation on some of the colours doesn't read properly in-game.

Luckily I got it to colours I like, but it's very much pale gold and peach instead of burnt umber and plum. Seriously though, the eye-shadow looks like vitaar!
