... or maybe some of them have watched too much porn.  Or played too many games where gorgeous scantily-clad women fawn all over their protagonists.  So any potential LI who isn't built strictly for male consumption doesn't meet their requirements.

Fact is, they have the same number of options in DAI that they had in DAO and DA2, although none display side-boob or watermelon cleavage.  Is that the problem?

Maybe these threads just tell us how good the game is. It's so perfect that the only thing they can complain about is that it doesn't fulfill their fantasy relationships. I've been looking at these the wrong way if that's the case.

Yeah, but in the real world, any npcs would be available for romance, or at least an attempt at. Why can't my inq make a inquiry to a bartender that he finds attractive for example?

Because it isn't real world. It's a fantasy RPG. They can't include everything in the game and frankly I wish they would spend the time they used on romances on developing the main plot so I could have more mission to go through. But Bioware has decided to include these romances in the game because players seem to enjoy them. And like it has been said many times, Inquisition has just as many options for romancing as did the previous Dragon Ages and more, it's not their fault that these virtual characters aren't to your personal liking.

There's just no way for them to create enough romance options to please everyone.  There's literally no way.

What you are asking for would require them to cut pretty much all of the romance plot and incorporate a Skyrim-style approach which amounts to:

1.)  Buy and wear a necklace

3.)  Complete a minor fetch quest for an NPC

4.)  Two lines of dialogue about being married that end up being the same for all characters

5.)  A cookie-cutter 'romance' where the individual character has no personality of their own and shares their dialogue with every other NPC.

That's fine for Skyrim, but Bioware is known for their character development.  That would fly in the face of that.

I'm married and I still want Leliana as a romance option....

There's a difference between "this would be cool to have" and the crazy obsession a lot of people seem to have.

That's generally possible - you can try to flirt with Cullen or Sera, with predictable results if inquisitor is male.

However, beyond a certain point the problem is that the developers cannot possibly include voice acted lines for every conceivable dialogue option players could come up with; either join a P&P D&D group (unlike computers, human dungeon masters can make up responses on the fly) or wait until we've got strong AIs running our video games

Love and sex are part of real life, but demons and giant green holes in the sky are not. This is not trying to be the Sims RPG or something.

And screwing the straight male audience? You feel cheated that there are two women for your male character to have sex with while straight women get 3 males? So unfair.

They got 4. Had vivi been the last romance instead of Blackwall it would have been  even.

Who is the fourth?

Edit: Oh yes I am mistaken, I forgot Iron Bull. Still I think it's the same point.

I'm pretty sure the problem is that Cassandra has short hair and isn't showing any cleavage, and there isn't a "white Josephine" mod yet.

Imagine if the LI for straight male characters were a giant beefy, scarred up woman missing an eye (female Iron Bull) a completely hairless woman with zero makeup who dresses in frumpy, baggy, hobo clothing (female Solas) pretty much any woman in her 40's-50's (female Blackwall).

Right, but remember that Blackwall wasn't the last romance.  He was just the last one that we had confirmed.

The six original LI's were:

Blackwall (straight guy)

Iron Bull (bi guy)

Dorian (gay guy)

Cassandra (straight gal)

Josephine (bi gal)

Sera (gay gal)

The two that were added in later were Solas and Cullen, both of whom were race-gated and gender-gated because of 'story reasons', which really just amount to "lack of dev time masqueraded as 'story reasons'".  It would be one of the two of them who Vivienne would be replacing.  And, likely, she'd be gated to just humans or humans and elves.

Also, unfortunately, she actually had legitimate story reasons to not be romance.  When they had 'extra dev time' and decided to expand romances, they had only 6 options:  Cullen, Solas, Vivienne, Cole, Varric, and Leliana to choose from.  Vivienne and Varric are already spoken for.  So is Leliana if she's romanced by the Warden.  Cole has the mind of a child.  That only left Cullen and Solas as unattached and available.  Perhaps you could make the argument that Leliana should have been available if she wasn't already romanced, but it just didn't make sense for Vivienne.

Well yes there are more options for female characters than there are for male.

Straight male choices: Cassandra, Josephine

Straight female choices: Blackwall, Iron Bull

Gay male choices: Dorian, Iron Bull

Gay female choices: Sera, Josephine

Racial specific choices: Cullen, Solas

Side romances: Harding

This is likely how they divided it up, it's honestly pretty damn fair. Yes, there are technically more choices for straight females, but those are also locked behind racial specific choices. The Solas romance is also very much entwined with his story.

Cullen is just a racist jerk.

Zoralink I don't know if you noticed but I'm on the side that thinks the romances are just fine and there doesn't need to be any more romances for straight male characters. I still want to emphasize the character portion because even if you're a straight male in real life you could just as well create a woman or a gay male character in Dragon Age.

And do something like ... you know ... role playing in a ... *gasp* ... role playing game. ;)

Totally enjoying my young male human mage clumsily flirting with Cassandra.

Edit: Just for the record: I'm neither male, nor young, nor a mage IRL.

Yeah, probably shouldn't have quoted you in particular.

Was more of a general statement towards this whole thread.

How dare you??

I had no expectations on romances or plans to romance anyone when I started playing. Ended up together with Dorian.

I don't care much for women or men IRL.

Considering how bad the romances in Bioware games are, I'm amazed how many people can't get enough of them.

Haven't you heard? Sans an explicit sex scene, Josephine is not a "real" romance. If it isn't specifically shown to us, it didn't happen - which also means the characters don't ever cook, eat, sleep, brush their teeth, change clothes, relieve themselves, or do anything else off-camera. They also don't comb their hair, cuz - well, I guess they use so much product, it isn't necessary. Or possible.

We'd have a small-scale riot on our hands. For a game developer to surround the PC with youthful cover-girl Barbie cleavage and sexbots is not a privilege, but a basic human right. Anything "less" simply is not acceptable.

(I say small-scale because most of the straight male gamer population who have weighed in on these forums are perfectly satisfied with the romance options afforded them.)
