Don't like him all that much , as a character I find he lacks something...he's just too cool too badass ...

He's a super spy who survived everything , he has finesse but lacks finesse , he's deep but he's not deep .

I find this character inconsistent in how  he was written and not in a good way.

Also you can just feel Patrick Weekes made some research about real life soldiers , and it sounded like maybe he reads about the Vietnam war .

Anyway with P. Weekes , for me , it's a win or loose situation .

He made some characters I completly adore like Mordin and Solas , and others that just completly fall flat because it goes everywhere trying to reach the badass status but simply doesn't work.

I think Weekes is great at written complicated character who are badass in suble ways , he's good at openly intellectual characters.

Also don't like FPjr voice acting much to be honest. Not awful , but not great. He also has his moments.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat with Weekes. I didn't relate Mordin and Solas before, but now that you mention it, they are the token eggheads of the group. I don't like Solas' entire viewpoint, but he does challenge me in a way Mordin did.

I did appreciate his honesty in how my friends would end up under the Qun. No excuses, no mystery. Also made a certain decision later in the game much easier.

Eh i love Bull, and i also love his constant conversations regarding sex. Call me shallow but thats what fantasy game is for isnt it? :D
Besides he is generally an open nice guy with some very human weaknessess (fear of demons for example) coming out of a very tight culture that does not allow for personal freedom. I find him interesting, endearing and likeable.

Bull is cool. He aspires to the Qun, but he's also down to earth and has been given some allowances by the Tamassrans due to his past work as Ben-Hassrath. He's imperfect in a very 'human' sort of way. In short he, like most people walking our planet right now, is a work in progress. Just about everyone can relate to that.

Is there a reason he shouldn't be likeable?

To some, the fact that he's Qunari, even one who has his doubts, would make him an awful person and unlikable.

Not to me. Iron Bull makes me laugh. Poor sad clown though...

Yeah, well... Virtual racists shouldn't be dignified with acknowledgement, just like real ones.

That word is silly in this context.

Very silly.

If I drew a comic book character, say like some anthropomorphic animal like the ninja turtles -- and someone thought the concept was lame.. I wouldn't call them "racist". Like they're the enemy of all turtlekind. lol. I'd be pissed and defend it, but it isn't a real race or race related. Is this what we've come to, where people can't even dislike a fantasy game race, out of fear of "racism"?

I'm Asian, and I grew up in the middle of nowhere Texas.. I've been called a ******, a ******, a "Slanted Eyed Rice Cooker", etc.. THAT is racism. This is just a video game.

I'll leave a quote from Loghain. "Let us attend to reality." ;)

Bit of dialogue I loved with Bull and Cole.

Cole: You said you called yourself Iron Bull because of your horns?

Bull: What of it?

Cole: Those aren't bull horns. They're dragon horns. Couldn't you have called yourself the Iron Dragon?

Bull: .....Sh*t! That would've been better!

Thinking that something is lame, does not make you racist. Hating something because of it being of a fictional race, does make you a "virtual racist".

You can dislike a virtual race to your heart's desire, but do so on its merits, not because they are another race.

No, I hate the idea going through the creator's heads. I don't like the "cow" factor at all. I think it's stupid, just in the same way I might consider a song or movie stupid.

It has nothing to do with race, but a criticism of an idea. A criticism of an artist/writer/what have you. I'm making fun of another human being, if anything.

I like Bull because he's funny and doesn't act so serious all the time.  I can't take Cass, Blackwall, or Solas anywhere because they're all so dour all the time or at least super serious.  Bull also has the funniest romance scenes.

And how does that pertain to the subject at hand?

It doesn't now. It's a response to your own off-comment earlier. About racism. I'm merely responding. Don't put this on me :D

It's your comment about racism that is wholly irrelevant. People should be allowed to dislike elements in these games without it coming off so sinister. I'm getting tired of it. It's a cheap way to quell opinion.

My point actually had something to do with the subject. Hating Iron Bull for being a Qunari, is virtual racism.

If you dislike the core concept of the Qunari (artistic direction and such), then you aren't disliking Iron Bull for being a Qunari persay. Then you are just disliking an artistic quality of the game. If that translate to you disliking Iron Bull as a character, then you are just superficial. "I don't like this character because he is blonde!"

Because he's far more human than most of BioWare's characters. No outstanding ideals, no overburdening past, no burning desire for revenge... he lives life from day to day like most of us, cares for the people he's come to know more than any faith or religion that's been imposed on him. He's open minded and down to earth and can draw the line between profession and relation.

In other words.

He's fracking awesome.

Because he is Qunari.

Anyone who made him leave the Qun is an enemy of all DA fans.

I free him from his slavery to the QUN!

Fair enough. We've come to some understanding, I think.

I don't dislike IB for being Qunari specifically. I dislike that the writers are going full gusto with sexing them up. It's disgusting. Something I expected from only the fringes of the net, whrere you find Krogan porn and goatse.

Wow.

Simply.

Wow.

I prefer the individual than to the faith he belongs to.

I don't agree with Islam most of the times, or even Christianity.

But one of my best friends for years is Muslim to the core.

I like him because of who he is, not the ideology he adheres to.

His simple presence though is threatening in and of itself, His people will invade one day and destroy everything your character cares about and for my Inquisitor that's enough to hate him, Personally it makes the fact that he is likable all the more jarring.

So you hate the individual for the actions of his people?

Even though the individual is in no way, a vessel for that ideology?

It's fine if your character doesn't like him. But for a player to use his race/ideology as a reason for disliking him...

It just doesn't piece together. I'd understand if he were like Sten, who is the ideal Qunari in every way.

But Iron Bull? From your reasoning, it's like disliking Dorian for what his people do to slaves, or Cullen because he belonged to the Templars.

Thanks for answering. The thing I find different about Thane or Garrus is that most would consider them to touch more on personality. The attraction in fans is of the heart, etc.. People rarely get into detail about Garrus, physically. Or put it so literally, like "taking a bull's ****" With the Qunari, the conversation always gets physical. And in the game, it's more in your face. Not just for romancers. Garrus never talked about banging all the time. Or screwed other companions. Or priests.

But anyways. It's just my opinion. I'm just here to disagree on the idea that "everyone likes such and such" or "all men want to be Iron Bull". I don't think so. If I wanted a fratboy, I'd hang out with all of the ones I know. We could light our farts on fire, drink the night away, and gangbang random women at truck stops. And at the end, we'll take selfies together and post how awesome we look on facebook. ;)

Ah okay, I think I get what you mean. Yeah, it's not really his looks I'm fond of - I just quickly find myself a fan of characters with a good sense of humor and good heart. He definitely is a perv, no denying that, but a cool perv. In my opinion at least. :D but yeah, thanks for explaining your side of the perspective to me, I always like a good discussion where people can disagree civilly and explain themselves without flaming lol.
