It was a cool idea having specialization quests in Inquisition but the delivery sucks. They should have given us legitimate specialization quests.

For example: To unlock assassin go on a dangerous assassination mission and eliminate someone. To unlock Artificer go search an ancient, abandoned, dwarven, thaig and find some lost trap schematics ect. Instead we get: Go fetch some crafting materials and kill some generic npcs.

Doesn't it depend on what specialization you take, I've only done the Champion specialization so far but fighting other champions and having a standard made sense for that specialization.

I had no problem with the execution, myself. The only thing I would have done differently would be to add a cutscene of some kind at the end.

The biggest problem I had with the assasin one was finding the people I was meant to kill. There was no location beaker and where one area starts and another begins (in terms of location within an area) can't be seen on the map... Only from running around aimlessly.

"go search for schematics in a thaig" = "go fetch some crafting materials"
"go on a dangerous assassination mission and eliminate someone" = "go kill some NPC"

what you may consider a great way to make the quest another person can easily trivialize like that, if they don't have the same emotional investment in it. Kinda gives you idea what it's like to be on the developer end of it.

The quests may suck, but I could listen to Your Trainer talk all day long.

I think they should have stuck with learning specializations from your companions like in Origins. It kind of doesn't make sense to bring in specialists when you already have capable, loyal experts recruited.

Spot on. Thats exactly what should have been done. The issue of it being fetch quests was then compounded by some of the mats not excactly being easy to obtain, making it into a grind.

I loved having trainers come to Skyhold and getting to talk to them and choose your specialization in that way, but trying to track down just the right wisps in Fallow Mire deflated my enthusiasm fairly quickly.

I did the Champion aswell, but I had serious troubles getting the materials needed for that quest. The quest told me to go to Val Royeaux and get a book from one of the merchant, alright simple enough. Well I spent up to an hour searching that stupid place and Ifound no book, tome or whatever. I have no issues with having no quest marker, but when I can't ask guards for a book merchant, and that the map only says "merchant" on every single shop, I don't like it, it's just horse. Either have a quest marker or let me have the option to ask guards or look up the map for a specific merchant. Oh, and I didn't find that book in Val Royeaux so it was a complete waste of time.

My only problem is that the material required should be easier to come by in some cases.

I'm level 17 and I've been missing a single philter for the Templar spec. I have the spec quest since I'm level 13...

I went looking in Val Royeaux for the Rift Mage book as well, but apparently the tome you need for each spec is right by your companions.  I realized that it is only sold in Val Royeaux if you haven't recruited the companion who shares the spec with you.

Lol glad I'm not the only one having trouble finding the materials. The materials they send you to gather can be pretty dang hard to find! I started the Artificer quest line at level 11. I'm level 16 now and I still can't find the last alpha quillback spine I need.

Indeed. The quest vaguely tells you that in the log, but I don't see why the book couldn't just be in the book shop to begin with. It's pretty funny to think that the merchant wont sell you a specific book when it's available someplace else in the keep. Am I the only one buying books there? I guess I am.

Oh yeah it really wasn't explained well.  The quests in general aren't very clear, they told me I could only get Venatori Tomes in the Exalted Plains but I found them off Venatori in the Hinterlands.
