As I just mentioned in the Dread Wolf thread my feeling is that the dread wolf created the veil to sequester the gods either in the fade or from the fade. Now waking once the Eluvian network was reactivated he deeply regrets his choice and wants to undo it.A theory came to me when listening to Solas rant on about the fade.
Could he be trying to remove the veil? I can't quote him exactly but there was a conversation where he asked the Inquisitor "Could you imagine if we could tear the veil down and live in harmony", or something along those lines. The Elven orb can manipulate the veil, perhaps this is what he had intended to use it for.

I think the Gods aren't necessarily gods as in our classical understanding of the word. Remember when Sera flips out and practically begs you to agree with her stance that the Gods are just demons? I actually agreed with her for real because I got that feeling myself when we were traipsing around Mythal's temple. Those statues, they just gave me that vibe with their faceless sort of blank state and their bat wings. The Maker or rather Andraste were sort of attempts to 'humanify' their deities to make it easier to worship, but the rendition of those statues, if they were supposedly representative of Mythal, makes me think of anything but.
I can't remember if Solas outright says it, but I got the impression from him that Spirits are just spirits, and demons are their purpose denied. Following that train of thought, Mythal could be either because she's painted as someone who not only protected and nurtured, but also as someone who struck down their enemy's. To me, that sort of signifies that Mythal could be both at the same time, one man's Angel is another man's Demon.

Yup, just finished up after I got bored by all the sidequesting (already was on lvl 21 anyhow), and, wow, they dropped some pretty big story bomb in the last 2 hours or so. I mean, I always supected Flemeth to be some kind of goddess/demon, but oh my, old elven god? That's going into serious Planescape'esque terretory... problem is, now the story of DAI feel even more small and meaningles, really. Sure, the world was saved, for now, but what comes next?

As mother as daughter, I guess... she is a shapeshifting specialist afterall.

I guess the Epilogue can be interpreted in any way. No way to tell.
My guess is the human body of Flemeth was at the end; she did not take over Morrigan's body. I guess she send her away in DA:O to be out of her temptation, because she loved Morrigan, and she also did not take over her son (Kieran?). Keep in mind Mythal IS the gooddess of motherly love. So Flemeth/Mythal may appear stern, but at the core she is caring and like mothers do, sacrifice rather herself. So it was care and love, why she took the Old God out of Kieran. I guess she expelled one soul through the Magic Mirror before Solas/Fen'Harel came. But what soul? The Old God? Flemeth? Or Mythal?
Whether she died of age, because she did something and afterwards naturally died because she did some magic stuff, or Fen'Harel killed her... remains to be seen. But We have no indicator to know. I can not see Fen'Harel/Solas as evil. I mean maybe all he said ever was a lie, who knows. But given he really cares for the Elves, and he does seem affectionately holding the dead Flemeth, personally I don't see that he killed her. Besides, knowing how clever Flemeth is, it's no so easy to kill her. ![]()

That's what I assume so far as well. Somehow like Korra (Avatar): bringing the Spirit World into the mundane world, heh. XD

I just finished the game, and my jaw dropped with that last scene. Fantastic.
I wonder what price they were referring to. It could be the one to get to the Well, or maybe a different one? What he did looked a lot like what Flemeth did with Kieran.
I don't know if Flemeth's actually dead (fool me once, yadda, yadda), but I was surprised by how sudden that was. Does this mean that Morrigan is now bound to Fen'Harel's will?
In any case, I'm actually surprised by how many questions arose in about... 2 hours.

I'm confused on the whole "Gods" thing in Dragon Age. What is the definition of a god in the Dragon Age universe? I've always assumed that the beings called "Gods" were ancient races or perhaps a select few of the ancient races with a immense power, at least in the eyes of the common folk.
Solas said it himself " I'm exhausted from my slumber", or something along those lines. Surely this means his power has limitations, therefore not a god? Or did Solas exist in the current timeline and Fen'haral's soul merged with Solas's body as Mythal did with Flemeth?
Gods in fantasy are (typically) not like monotheism. More like polytheism, with individual (and limited) powers.
In my humble opinion, this is the most likely path for Bioware to follow up on this particular reveal is within either an Inquisition expansion or significant dlc. I feel like they actually would have to bring over too many of the current companions in the fourth game to polish this off correctly, so I think you are correct in your guess.
What other companions would have to be brought back? None of them know anything about Solas, even Cassandra. I don't see how they're related to him.
As for me, I don't see how it CAN be done in a sequel. it's just too big, too large in scope for a DLC or expansion. Consider for a moment: Inquisition, the entirety of that game, was us fighting with Sola/Dread Wolf's puppet. They can't bring back him and the others in a DLC--at least to close the arc. maybe to expound on it.

Wait I actually just beat the game but I must be soo dumb--Solas is the dread wolf? I gathered that he was a spirit or something, but I didn't think he was that piece of lore.
The twist with flemeth was cool.

Solas was so defensive about spirits that I knew there was something off there. Wasn't sure what but it made him very suspect early on. Also, he had an arrogance I found annoying. I just never trusted him at all. Only kept him with me as my mage until I got Viv then switched to Dorian.

As I heard it, the Inquisitor subdues a dragon if s/he drinks. If no one drinks there's no dragon and you fight the red Lyrium dragon at full health rather than half HP if a dragon is present on your side.
Why would the Elven goddess of justice would have a connection to dragons is anyone's guess, however. Perhaps she is the cause of the return of dragons during the titular Dragon Age?

I think I get it now... I think
When you drink from the well yourself, you fight a dragon and 'convince' it to fight Cory's dragon in the final battle. So there's no need for Morrigan's shapeshifting.

I doubt it will take another 5 years. Dragon Age 2 was pushed out the door after 9 months development and was still an enjoyable game . . not necessary a fantastic sequel.
Now that they have the framework of DA: I to work from, I don't think it will take more than 2 or 3 years.
Flemeth absorbed Kieran's old god soul without harming him, so obviously what Solas did to Flemeth was a tad different. Argh so much obscurity.

My jaw dropped when Flemeth/Mythal called Solas Dread Wolf. I was like "Holy ****!"
When I saw the sadness in Solas' eyes when he saw the orb destroyed, I knew immediately that he was the one that gave it to Corypheus, but not that he was a god.
I also have to agree with those that say the Dread Wolf absorbed Mythal, not the other way around. When Solas walked up to Flemeth, he said "I should be the one to pay the price, but the people need me". Mythal then looked sad, Solas said he was sorry, she said she was sorry as well, and was absorbed into Solas' body. Then it was clear Flemeth's body then died, since it was Mythal that kept her alive for so long. If Mythal would have absorbed the Dread Wolf, why would she have transferred into Solas' body? That doesn't make sense. Mythal has used Flemeth's body for ages.
So I guess Morrigan doesn't have to worry about her mother anymore.
I really dug Solas as a character. I didn't have him in my party much since I was a mage, but his stories were interesting, and his voice actor was awesome. I really hope they make an expansion that explores Solas as the Dread Wolf. I also hope Merrill makes an appearance, so she can go, "By the Dread Wolf!"

@Laterali; It makes sense imo if you accept that Flemeth's actual body is dying. Flemeth's will may be immortal, but not her body, which is why she's been bodyhopping for x centuries. Morrigan was the last in a long line of spare bodies to hold (or possibly Kieran, but he may not necessarily exist). For all we know Solas/Fen'Harel has been doing the exact same as well, but at the end of the day, Mythal is a god/spirit/demon, so the sexuality of her host may not even matter.

I'd agree if it weren't for this. Flemeth tells Morrigan that the soul transfer has to be willing. By the Dread Wolf saying, "I should be the one to pay the price, but the people need me." to me says he wasn't willing. Mythal on the other hand only says that she is sorry, too. This is pretty ambiguous, as it could be sadness and acceptance that she is about to die again, or that she doesn't care that he isn't willing. I guess it all comes down to if Flemeth was lying to Morrigan or telling the truth.

I find it highly likely that Flemeth hedged her bets. We have, afterall, seen her "die" once already, only to discover she took steps to subvert it.

So this is the second time Justice or Vengeance has been bound to someone? I wonder if any good will come out of that "forgotten magic" this time.
Yes, I am quite aware they are not the same Justice, Solas blables on about the fade so much it's almost as though I live there.
