Mythal was murdered long ago, her essence found Flemeth. Her friend Fen'harel and she were trying to ressurect her (Mythal). The grimoire Morrigan found with the ritual was far more complex than she could comprehend. The sole purpose of Morrigan joining the warden for the blight was to perform a ritual, get pregnant with old god soul. The vessel needed by Mythal. I think Fen'harel created the orb to bring Mythal back to the Fade in her ressurected state. With no godbaby no vessel and Mythal dies. Flemeth's body was at it's limit and she needed another host desperate. Morrigan was unwilling and she only had her friend to turn to.

Good post, it all adds up.

Just stumbled upon this thread now while browsing some pages through old threads...

If you drank from the well and talk to Solas at Skyhold after, he is pretty upset.  It seems to me he has reason to beyond just being a good guy... something more complex.   If the essence of Mythal within Flemeth dies off, it most likely removes any bindings you have to her yet you are still imbued with the power/knowledge --- most likely knowledge and power they did not want to be in someone's hands that they no longer could retain control of.

Then again of course Bioware can go in any direction with it, but that is what stood out.  Also the ending after the credits with Solas/Flemeth... the fact that he is stating he is in regret (that he should be the one to pay the price) could be all a part of a larger plan of his if he is afterall such a deceptive Elven God ---- so maybe this was his way of "staying on the good side" of Mythal overall while absorbing what power Flemeth had of Mythal..... since Flemeth described her bond with Mythal as Mythal being as much a part of her as a person's heart is to them --- it's not the entirety of them but it's necessary to live.    Now with that in Solas' possession, he would be even more powerful.

Again, the Bioware writers could change any of this however they want down the road.. but with all of the information at hand it makes the most sense ---- doesn't mean it will be canon down the road but at this very moment it seems very logical.

Solas was fishy and full of ***t from the start... While I love the character, I never believed his tales about traveling through the fade to be mere accident or some kind of a hobby of his. I always suspected that he is some kind of a spirit and has his agenda. He always knew what the orb was and what it does. That's how he knew that it'll close the rift and he studied it while you were knocked out to see if there is a way of removing it so that he can have it for himself. Might be wrong, but that's my understanding of things.

Also, he'd make a great villain... Just imagine him in some dark robes. He looks really dark.

Solas roaming around the world on his own and outside of a Dalish clan was just a little teensy-weensy bit suspect. I chose not to have him in my party that much though :/, it is also a puzzler as to why he tells YOU to lead everyone to Skyhold when he knew about it(I at least would have liked the option to ask, "why don't you tell everyone about this instead of me?") I never got his character quest in my game, but he made me suspect him especially when he just disappeared lol I told Leliana it didn't matter if we followed him or not :P.

Last night i had him in my party.  Can't remember who called him out, but they mention the orb that The Elder One was carring at Haven.   I was like...oh if you only knew.....I think it was Varric that mentioned it.  Trying to figure what play through I'm going to keep him in the part.   Just finished my Dalish Archer and working on my Qanari Mage play through.

It felt a bit like a Mexican standoff to me. Two old friends, battered by time, and too weak to achieve their respective goals without destroying/absorbing the other. It felt very much like "sorry, I have to kill you now," rather than "sorry for what has happened in the past." All their movements as they moved closer to one another just felt so, calculated.

As for elven gods being the old gods i think thats not possible, since there's 7 old gods and the elven gods are 9 (just on the good side, there's the forgotten ones as well)

Perhaps, but remember, two of those nine are Mythal and Fen'harel.  Since they're already accounted for, it's possible that the other elven gods are the Old Gods.

I don't think it's the case, personally, but I do find that two Elven gods being accounted for, and seven not, to be a mighty big coincidence (then again, look at how the "coincidence" of The Warden and Hawke going missing turned out).
