I left Stroud behind because he said he wanted to pay back the demon for deceiving the Wardens. Gave the man what he wanted. Unfortunately, I may have used them all up on the War Table from one of the requests at the western part of Orlais.

I just did that quest. I let Stroud die. Morrigan told me that the Hero of Ferelden was an excellent father and was working on finding a way to cure himself of the taint, and gave me an operation on the war table to contact him.

The Wardens will be fine. I mean, two raw recruits rallied armies, united a kingdom in a civil war, defeated an archdemon and then one of them went to rule a country while another went to rebuild the order twice.

I'm sure the other Wardens can make do.

The only country Alistair is ruling is a tavern in low town. I don't know what kind of crazy bizzaro-world Thedas you live in  ;)

I love Varic's speech if you leave Stroud behind, 'not too many people knew who he was' lol XD 'but he was a hero when he needed to be'. :crying:

Stroud stays behind. He is a Grey warden and has chosen a life of Sacrifice and is living on borrowed time.

Most Hawkes have family, friends and loved ones, and is arguably more powerful than stroud. The Wardens still have many senior wardens left, although they are not close by (The Hero of Ferelden for example unless he/she had his/her soul destroyed in DA:O).

So sacrificing Hawke is more of a waste unless he/she somehow miraculously survives that encounter and finds a way out of the fade.

He is now probably my favorite minor character in the series.

Stroud. Great guy, but...I spent a whole damned game playing as Hawke.

Alistair or Loghain might have given me pause, though.

Yeah, but Loghain...

"Well, sorry, Loghain. You lived, you got to redeem yourself pretty handsomely. But now the time has come you lay down your life for not only Ferelden, but the entirety of Thedas. People will forget your treachery at Ostagar, and you will live on as The Hero of the Battle of River Dane AND a man who sacrificed himself for the continued survival of our world. I shall make sure of it."

I actually left Hawke behind. In my canon, Hawke's brother, sister and mother are all dead, she killed her love interest, Anders, when he blew up the Chantry, she could probably now consider herself responsible for both the mage/templar war AND Corypheus...I figured it was best to send her out like a hero.

Plus, Stroud reminded me of Riordan. Who was probably my favorite minor Warden ever.

This choice is more interesting than the usual choice between two different NPCs (say, Kaidan vs Ashley) because one of the "NPCs" was actually the "PC" in the prior title. Does that make them easier to let die, or harder?

That was one of the worst choices I've seen among the BW titles (and that's including Geth\Quarians & the Legion's fate).

Worst thing about this 'choice' is that it's a PLAYER who has to make it. Character-wise the Inquisitor has little reasons to care about any of potential candidates, but player does (surprise?..), and the toughest combo must be Hawke\Alistair-Warden (romanced).

Kaidan vs Ashley is an in-game ethical problem, with a 2\3 chance that either of two is a LI. It's also a significant part of the surviving character's arc. But even if neither of two is a LI - those are equal figures (subordinates, friends, brothers in arms - whatever), Shepard can make this choice with no meta-gaming involved, and it's still going to be hard.

With the 'Adamant choice' no matter whom player ends up with - player can not unplay those 100+ hours that they had spent with the characters. Especially true for Hawke and Alistair. It's as if spending extra couple of hours in order to recreate custom Hawke's face was not immersion-breaking enough.  They are offered to chose from two characters they care about, both more or less equally unimportant to the current character (Inquisitor).

With Stroud it's even worse, imo. Because it's the choice between some sort of weak in-game logic (which might or might not be stated clear enough) about his importance as a last senior Warden (No chain of command, at all? Really? First time in ages that the CO dies?) and the players feelings about their Hawke (AND his\her family & LI as well).

An extra question is why would I even want to leave any of the two against THAT thing. Not a skilled mage, not a living spirit (if present), but a SS Warden warrior or an archer-rogue Hawke (in my PT, for some reason she had switched to DD, but oh well). I say - if someone is able to hold IT back single-handedly sure 6 of them can find a trick or two and sneak past?..

I don't  see what this 'choice' was supposed to add to the story, especially in Stroud-Hawke combo. In fact, it heavily reminds me of Priority:Thessia (unfortunately). Same forced drama where none should be, same lack of inner logic. The only bright difference is  that Inquisitor did not have to auto-grieve in front of the camera (unlike Shep).

You chose Stroud..... over Hawke? A redshirt or your precious PC and you choose the redshirt? I would think that choice would be easy. It's much harder when the choices are Alistair/Loghain two beloved former companions and Hawke, not  Hawke and random warden #6.

I chose to save Stroud over Hawke also.  Why?  Because I kind of always hated Hawke.  I 'head canon' it as Hawke insisting on staying and the Wardens needing a strong leader, but it's less about saving Stroud and more about killing Hawke off so I don't have to worry about him showing up and muddling his way through any future installments.  The only ones who will miss him are Anders, who deserves a little heartache after the misery he caused, and Carver who, according to Aveline, is a bit of a ****** anyway.

No big loss there, in my opinion.

I left stroud in the fade to fight the terror to atone for the wardens and use his sacifice to show that wardens  are always needed, and yes i  kept told them they are now apart of the inquistion so stroud death by fighting for doing what the wardens are meant to do will rally them

I had to choose between Alistair and Hawke- it was awful. I left Hawke behind because her life with Anders sounded so miserable. I still feel really bad about it,

Okay?

Doesn't change anything. Loghain is a better character than the Warden-Mustache of Orlais and the Champion of Failure put together.

Hawke mainly due to the fact that the Hawke in my playthrough was not the guy I played through with in DA 2. Their choices were the same but he wasn't the dude I played an entire game with and really the Wardens needed someone whose head wasn't stuck up their ass.

Hawke was better in the thirty minutes s/he talked on screen than they were throughout the entirety of DA2. Turns out Templars trying to kill you makes you stop being an idiot. Good riddance to the old one.

This. I had a mage inquisitor, a mage Hawke and freaking necromancer Dorian with me. They could have reanimated an army of fade spiders (Dorian did that in combat already) and make them pester the giant spider while throwing fireballs at it from different directions. A lot more dramatic and attention-grabbing than a single guy attacking it. The choice felt cheap.

Maker, this quest is gonna kill me in the next play through. I got Stroud this time and I left him behind because I'm too attached to my Hawke, and I couldn't do that to Varric either (especially because he was in my party as well).

But I really want to see Alistair as a Grey Warden as well, but that means choosing between him and Hawke. I CAN'T DO THAT????

SO. I thought that instead of importing my Hawke I'd just import a templar supporting default female warrior Hawke instead, which is basically the complete opposite of what my Hawke is. Therefor, I won't have any attachments to her and can save Alistair without feeling too bad about it. The problem is Varric, it's gonna hurt him so much. This quest is gonna hit me in the feels and twist the knife no matter how I play it... :(

I was really torn between Hawke and Alistair, but then I realized Hawke was my character and I wanted him to go out with a bang.

Alistair made it out alive to lead the Grey Warden back to glory.

I left Stroud because he wanted to. Great and Honorable Stroud.  Hawke also said he had a score to settle with Corpy!  I wasn't about to let my Hawke be stuck there!  Are you kidding me?!  I loved my Hawke in DA:2.  Hawke has been through enough and it wouldn't be right to leave Varric's best friend there.  Besides Isabela would be pissed!  And Hawke doesn't want to lose her.  ;)

ey m8, Warden-Mustache of Orlais is basically Riordan with a mustache. Show some respect. :S
