I kept trying to leave stroud. The controller wouldn't choose it as an option. Behold the power of the stache.

I'll be honest, I didn't even take time to think over this choice. I instantly sacrificed Stroud. My Hawke was grateful to the guy for saving Bethany, but it's a choice between a character I've spent 60+ hours with and a character I've spent 2 hours with. I think the Grey Warden sacrificing himself to salvage the Order's honour is poignant too.
That said, I'm slightly disappointed that I didn't get one of the other, more mind-blowing decisions. I probably would've sat and stared at the screen for an hour if Alistair had been the Warden. I don't know if I could have picked between them for a canon playthrough.

I can't really come up with a good enough reason why I would sacrifice Hawke over Stroud. Actually what I'd really like to do would be make Hawke the leader of the free mages instead of Fiona but instead they disappear off to the Anderfels, no doubt never to be seen again. The same happens if you save Stroud so really the whole "you're needed to build up the Wardens" is a bit pointless. If you don't banish the Wardens and Stroud stays to keep them in order I could see some point to saving him but as it is......

truly when I got to this. it was a tough choice. the Hawke in Inquisition (male not sure if he was a mage or warrior but his story was the opposite, sister and mom died, brother lived) isn't the Hawke I had in DA 2 (female rogue and lover is Anders, sister is a Warden and the rest of the family is dead) so I didn't really have an attachment to him. but I chose to let Stroud stay due to the fact that Corypheus killed my Hawke's mother and figured she (he) should get their revenge even though the wardens seemed to know about him from the Elf Warden Carel (not sure if spelt right) reaction to the name. I also chose to let them help the inquisition even knowing their mages might get corrupted by Coryphues because I already had the mages that were already being feared if they turned into abominations (demons) and it helps the numbers of soldiers. I also had fun playing wardens in DA Origins and DA Awakening. they are also helpful in killing darkspawn and the archdemon so I didn't see the point in banishing them.
Loghain died in DA and Alaistir and my character were married to each other (female human noble) so they are King and Queen. but if I had Loghain, I would of chose him.
