I am considering a reaver for my nightmare run and wondered how the damage would stack up.  Just fine I guess?

Ridiculous as long as you are a Reaver.

Damage is godly.

Just make sure you put points into SnS's damage resistant passives. Takes only 4 points in total, and turns you from squishy rogue-in-armor to damage god.

Are "Turn the bolt" and "Bear Mauls the Wolves" all you need to be a 2H tank?  Or do you also need "Trust the Steel"?

Trust the Steel doesn't work (otherwise it'd be nice).

I was talking about a 2H DPS, who need only Turn the Bolt and Turn the Blade. A 2H tank will need Turn the Bolt, Turn the Blade, Bear Mauls the Wolves and will very very much want to specialize into the Champion tree for Walking Fortress.

Like a regular tank, weak hits should not be parried/blocked, as they should hit you for very a very pitiful amount of damage. Instead, save stamina for parrying heavy hits (if they can be parried), and combat roll for heavy but unparriable hits (i.e. dragon).

Obviously, it's still not as viable as a SnS tank on Nightmare, but a min-maxed SnS tank on Nightmare simply makes the game too easy.

Ah thanks.  I'm trying to see what the minimum number of mitigation skills a 2H warrior needs to take to be the sole tank.  From what you've told me, I won't take  "Bear Mauls the Wolves".  I'll rely on combat roll, bull rush, and awareness to avoid flanking damage.

Is it possible to be a viable 2H DPS on Nightmare without going Reaver?

I started playing on normal, and late game (when I was 2), I was obliterating EVERYTHING.

I switched to nightmare mode, and well... no change, I still did ridiculous damage (4000 is not uncommon).

So, 2Hreaver is definately worth it late game. However, I would see that early game, this is a very difficult build to do in nightmare...

@lastpawn : Sort of? Reaver has a lot of dmg boosts, base Warrior doesn't really. They get a lot of stuff that works off crits or other conditions but none of its really a damage boost. But if your dead set of doing dmg as not a reaver. Just max out 2H skills. The skills are better then the % read outs make it seem. Then again, so are the Reavers.

You'll want Horn of Valor for its dmg boost, Coup De Grace is bonus dmg from stunned or knocked down enemies. Which will work out well with Mighty Blow. Earthshaking Strike, as anime-stupid as it is (I love anime but this skills just dumb) it's apparently very effective. It's basically a warrior firewall with out the fear. Whirlwind will keep stacking up bonus dmg, it's weak initially, but if you keep holding it down it'll keep getting more powerful and eventually start doing real stupid dmg.

On a semi-unrelated topic, Block n Slash can only counter normal hits. So saying its not to be used except for against large hits will ultimately result in someone never counting a damn thing. It actually does good dmg, and will knock back all the enemies in the arc. Even as a DPS tank it can be a useful dmg tool.  For example the large 2H guys? You can only counter there 4 hit chain, and it wont interrupt it. Can't counter anything a dragon or giant does. Basically if it has a long telegraph - and it's not a slow ass undead -  you can't counter it so your better off rolling. Which reminds me, 2H DPS or otherwise, get Combat Roll.

Why should Trust the Steel not work? I have tested it yesterday with 2H Blackwall and he get the armor bonus if he has an active guard. Or is this an reaver related issue?

Whirlwind - outside of "Dragon spin" - might be lackluster, but its a) detonator b) 360 degrees AoE. So its effectiveness comes down to how the party is able to setup encounters that a) and b) are utilized. That said, as of now I re-specialized out of it as ability points are limited and 2H warrior is my only warrior.
