Has anyone finished the storyline for both, I can't decide what to do with the mages, they're like a puppy that peed on your floor, they screwed up, but darn it they are just so cute.

I gave them freedom, but arranged with Vivienne to have plain clothed Templars start enlisting in the ranks - out of those who didn't succumb to Corypheus. My Lavellan has no issues with magic, but given the risk with being near the veil she didn't want to take the risk. I headcanon'd that she told them to stuff it though about bitching about the existing templars who wore their armor proudly. They're part of her army now, they need to calm down even though she knows it's more than hard.

Depends how long ago this happened, You cannot punish a dog after they've done something naughty >.>, have to punish them in the act.

Anyway on topic. I say they are my allies, what is the point of treating them like prisoners? If you conscript the templars do you have any choice to shackle them like the mages?

Allies. There was never really another choice for me. I told Vivienne to ****** off; if Cullen wants to do that, that's his business, but if Vivienne wants to get into the business of shuffling templars around, she should don some beaten steel.

Destroy the mages, leave not a single one of them standing.

I ally with the mages, but I agree to Vivienne's idea to train people in secret. It seems like a sensible arrangement to me.

Conscripted (free) them even if I'm playing a mage.

They dragged innocent in their conflict, kicked out ban teagan for what result ?

Be enslaved by Tevinter /ok

They needed to be teached a lesson but I would've prefered to just punish Fiona for bad leadership.

Especially since at that point you're still close to the Breach. My own mage, Lavellan, went out of her way in my headcanon to let either Lysette or Cullen know where she was going if she left Haven on her own, so they could at least know the near approximate location if she didn't show up for days and was discovered possessed.

Side with, conscript and disband the templar order. If your for mage freedom you can still get it to happen with Leliana as divine which is possible even on Templar side, And you can have the Templars remain with the Inquisition after the game.
Tis' all about making your Inquisition as powerful as it can be my friend
The Mages leave in the end, The Templars can potentially remain.

Siding with mages = severely weakened Inquisition once the game finishes

Siding with Templars= A strong well trained force remaining in your ranks

And if your not for mage freedom, well just have Cass or Viv become divine, and choose Templars. You may lose many when they go back to the circles, but some will yet remain and become your personal guards. And besides with the Venetori Tevinter being the enemy, the Templars will be more effective against them anyway

Conscripted because they majorly messed up in Redcliffe.

I'm hoping to put Viv or Cassandra on the Divine throne and have the puppet Empress sorted.

Freedom. And the epilogue slides that BW won't honor in the next game said it worked out great.

I have a feeling if you conscript the new divine is going to be less likely to give mages any sort of freedom. So if you want a better circle or more freedom for mages, then give them a full alliance.

It was quite a dilemma for me too, I wanted to punish Fiona but not the rest of the mages....

She's Alistair's mom. Isn't that punishment enough?

But seriously: this. There was no mention of a vote, I'm not sure any of the mages had a choice in the Tevinter mess besides their "exalted leader".

I would have preferred to have them as allies but they ruined that plan when they staged a coup and handed Redcliffe over to a foreign power.

There has to be consequences when you muck up that badly but my quizzy didn't say said the conscription was forever only until the rift crisis was over.

Agreed, all the mages I met in Redcliffe except for one didn't like the alliance and that made it a harder for me. Fiona is not leader material imo and I don't like that she stays in charge. We should have the option to judge her in Skyhold no matter what we choose for the mages.

In both my playthroughs as a Mage, both Maxwell and feminquist Lavellan conscripted the Mages. I believe they had to be punished for allying with the Venatori, and for forcing my inquisitors to see a possible dark future. My next playthrough as a warrior will side with the Templars.

I let them free BUT my Quizzy has also showed signs of supporting a new circle. Ideally entering the circle would be voluntary and not required. A place still for mages to practice magic, for Templars to be there on equal footing to watch over them and protect them but not something every mage had to do if they didn't desire it. That they where also free to leave whenever they wanted to. This would be my ideal circles and Templars but of course bioware always has it's own ideas.
